If you are hoping to begin 2014 with a purry and

loveable kitten, keep reading! My name is Minkie and I’m

the adorable Tortoiseshell girl you were gazing at on the

cover. I’m just 12-weeks-old and am gentle, playful and friendly. I loved being the

cover model and struck pose after pose in my red scarf. In between shots, I cuddled in

everyone’s hands and melted hearts. My two friends

pictured in the middle are a brother/sister pair named Enzo and Eve. Enzo has

multi-colored eyes: one gold and one blue! These two

kittens are orange and white beauties with gentle natures. Pictured at bottom is Rider, a precious Tabby boy who enjoys playing and being

held. We were all rescued by Cat Tails Adoption Agency when we were running out of

time at another shelter. If you’d like to meet us, please call 910-253-1375 or email [email protected]. Our

thanks go to Dick Parrott for taking our winter-themed portraits. We hope to be

spending all the seasons of the New Year with our

brand new families!

Cats ~ Dogs

My name is Roxie and I am an 8-year-old Beagle. I am quiet, reserved,

calm and I hardly ever bark unless there is a scent

that I really want to investigate. I am completely vetted and heartworm negative. My goal in life is to find a furever home. I have been

passed around too much and need to be loved by you. We can take nice easy

walks, I love to ride in the car and I could run errands with you. Honestly, I am no

trouble at all. Please call R.A.C.E. at 910-547-2839 or visit raceshelter.org.

Sponsored in loving memory of Roxy.

My name is Skoshi and I am an ador-able orange and white teenager

who is home-less. I was

found at Food Lion

where some-one aban-

doned me. I am playful, sweet and super love-

able and I do well with

everyone I meet. I am current on

vaccinations and have already been fixed. If you would like to know more info about me or would like to inquire about

the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. You may also visit us online at

www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Snoopy, Come Home! My name

is Snoopy and I’m a very well-

behaved and house-trained little

boy who is approximately

2-years old. I’m a Beagle who

weighs 20 pounds and I have been neutered. I love belly rubs and

snuggling with you anywhere! I get

along with all other dogs, but

am untested around cats. I am very playful, but relatively quiet for a

Beagle. My foster mom found me wearing a red invisible fence collar and wandering on Hwy 17 North in Hamp-

stead. She tried very hard to find my family but didn’t have any luck so this Snoopy is looking to come home WITH

YOU! Please call Grace at 910-352-6256 if you are inter-ested in being my Charlie Brown and adopting me.

I am sponsored by Grace Hodgkins. Thank you!

Page 5: PawPrints Magazine January 2014

We pulled out our bow ties just for you! Have you ever seen cats with this much fashion

sense? Our names are Mikey and Peanut and we are two

charming brothers. We do not have to be adopted together, but you can take us both if it’s hard to pick just one. We’ll be

happy either way. We both love playing with toys and cud-

dling with humans, and we even get along with the other cats here. We’re also in great health and are neutered, vacci-

nated and litterbox-trained. Our former foster mom wishes

she could keep us, but she can’t, so she will pay our adop-tion fees. That should tell you how much love we inspired in her while we were staying at her place. So please get us

out of this shelter and back into a home! With our adoption fees taken care of, you’ll be

getting quite a deal! For more information, call Pender County Humane Society

at 910-259-7022.

We are sponsored in honor of Scooter and Snickers, two cherished feline family members of Courtney Pearce.

Peanut

You’ll never believe this, but I was thrown out of a

pickup truck by peo-ple who then actually

tried to hit me! I guess that was their way of saying they

didn’t want me. You would think that I

would never want to get in a car again.

But, when I had the chance, I just

hopped right into my rescuer’s front seat. Even though I was treated badly, I still

am happy and full of joy. After all, I wound up at Paw’s Place where every-one loves me. My name is Roscoe and I’m a Bassett Hound mix. We guess that I’m about 1½-years-old.

Yes, I am a big boy, even though I am low to the ground. I am gentle, house-trained and I get along with others. I

am also heartworm positive but, don’t worry, Paw’s Place will treat me. I sure would like the chance to see what it would be like to have a family that truly loves me the way I love them. To meet me in person, simply drop by Paw’s Place any day from 9 – Noon. You can also

call the shelter at 910-845-7297.

In honor of our three wonderful dogs Bailey, Tigger, and Jax.

Page 6: PawPrints Magazine January 2014

My name is Rufus, an all-around terrific Hound. I was found

as a stray in the Charlotte area before the wonderful volun-

teers at Carolina Basset Hound Res-cue (CBHR) were

able to pull me off the streets and give me a nice warm bed to call my own. I came in pretty skinny and

also had a bad case of heartworms. With a little love and care, the doctors were able to get me looking just as good as when I was a puppy, and boy do I feel like one again! They tell me I’m around 8-years-old, but you couldn’t tell. I’m playful, bouncy, and the best part - I’m a super snug-

gler. All I want to do is cuddle with you and make you smile. I’m known as a “dry mouth” Basset. I come with all

the perks of the wonderful breed and I don’t slobber. You won’t have to repaint the walls of your house every

6-months because of somebody flinging doggie shrapnel all over the place! My foster mom and dad say I’m one of

the best dogs they’ve ever had. The only time I bark is when I’m excited, usually around dinner time (go figure) and when I see the leash and I know it’s time for a walk.

I’m so loyal, most of the time I walk with them even without a leash. I’m very friendly to kids and other dogs. Boy, do I love to play with my four-legged buddies. I have a Beagle

foster sister who I wrestle with all day. We have such a great time together! I come fully vetted, microchipped and heartworm free (yeah!) and neutered (not so excited about that one). I’m looking for a warm, caring family that I can

call my own. If you’ve got room in your home and heart for a wonderful dog, why don’t you give me a try? I promise I’ll love you forever. To adopt me, please call CBHR at

919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.

I recently fired my publicist and will be keepin' it simple and real in 2014.

My name is Booker, I'm a Bulldog mix. I chase balls and toys and sticks. I'm 2-years-old, I had a neuter... I don't use a cell or a computer.

If you like cats, you're not for me. I've had my shots, I'm heartworm-free.

I want a family, it's just time... or I'll be on the highway with a cardboard sign.

To adopt me, please call my peeps at Columbus Humane Society at 910-619-3015 or email [email protected]

Sponsored by a Columbus Humane Society supporter.

My name is Barney and I’m a busy, bouncy and

full-of-beans Boston Terrier mix. I’m approximately

1-year-old and love playing with toys! I especially love a

good game of tug-gie. I’m a very athletic boy and

would love to be in an active home

with lots of walks and play time.

What I really like more than anything is to be with peo-ple, and once I’ve

had my play time, I’d like a spot next to you on the sofa. I’m catching up on all the training I missed out on while I was a stray and I’m becoming a good citizen in my foster

home (including learning to potty outside). I’m crate-trained and have also learned sit, down, come, "gimme paw" and am working on my leash-walking skills. I get

along with most other dogs, but can be a bit boisterous at play. I’m a handsome devil at 33 pounds. To ask about me, send an email to Boston Terrier Team of the Caroli-nas at [email protected] or call 828-778-2045.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange

URGENT, URGENT!

My Time Is Running Out!

My sad eyes are heart-breaking! I

hope a special person reading

this will decide to come meet me.

My time is running out and

I’d love to be given the chance at a brand new life! My name

is Chloe (A010935) and I’m a 5-year-old Treeing Walker Hound who was found as a stray.

I’m bewildered by all the sights and sounds at the shelter, but I’m very sweet and mild-mannered and have shown no aggression at all to anyone. My adoption fee includes my spay surgery, vaccinations, deworming and flea treatment. That’s a great deal! If you need driving directions, or would

like more information about adopting me, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. Could 2014 be the year I

discover that angels exist?

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Adopt-An-ANGEL

January 2014 www.facebook.com/PawPrintsMagazine 9

►My name is Ladybug and I am an agile, ener-getic, fun girl who thinks life is a party! If you are an active family, then I am your girl. I am very sweet, eager to please and super smart. I do

well with other dogs with a slow introduction be-cause I am an alpha female. I have been trained to walk on a

treadmill so if you don't have time to walk me, you can walk me on a treadmill. If

you don't have one and want one, the group will throw mine in with my adoption. I have been homeless for quite some time so I certainly have earned my chance at a forever fam-

ily. I am spayed, up to date on my shots and even heart-worm negative. Look how cute my ears are in this picture!

►Hi, I'm Saint. Don't you just love my

smile? I am a sweet boy who may be a

little shy at first, but I warm up quickly. It usually only takes a scratch on the head, and we are best of friends!! I get along well with my doggie friends, too, and I’m good on a leash. I

am house-trained and healthy. In this pic-ture I am looking up to Heaven above and praying, “Dear God, please send my family to me. If you do I promise to protect them forever.”

◄Hello, my name is Angel. My beginning was tough, but I have come a long way! I

have been spayed, I’m up to date on vaccina-tions and I was treated for my non-contagious mange. In addition, Adopt-An-ANGEL is

taking care of my heartworm treatment, which I have already started. This treat-

ment is included at no extra cost to my adopter, but any donation you would like to

give would be greatly appreciated by me and my rescue group. It can be mailed to Adopt-An-ANGEL at P.O Box

15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. I am super cuddly and love to give kisses. Food is my friend and I will do most anything

for it. Toys (especially soft ones like stuffed animals and ropes) are my favorite. I make a good cuddle buddy for a rainy Sunday afternoon but at the same time I have the

energy to go for a run (after I complete my heartworm treat-ment next month). Please give me a chance.

◄Hi, I'm Madison and I am a solid grey beauty!! I am a friendly, loving and social girl who just wants a forever home. How can you resist? Please come see me at adoption fairs at Petco every weekend. I love to sit on laps, cuddle and make bis-cuits. I have already been spayed and I’m current on all of my vaccinations, too!

◄My name is Frankie and I was turned in to

Animal Control as a stray. My collar was embedded into my neck and had to be surgically removed. After 50 stitches and some TLC, I am now

ready for a GOOD home this time around. I am

energetic and playful, but eager to please, too. I

respond well to correction and firm leadership, and

will thrive in a good home - that I am sure of. I do well with kids and dogs, but could be too much for a cat. I am mid-sized at approximately 40

to 50 pounds and I’m crate-trained.

►I’m a lovebug who will make you so very happy! Riley is my name and I’ll

lay my head in your lap so sweetly it will melt

your heart. I’m a 1-year-old boy who was found

as a stray. Someone once taught me how to

sit on command, though, and I’m already neutered

and vaccinated. I love toys and will carry them

around in my mouth. I’m very affectionate and

want nothing more than to be your boy. Please

adopt me today!

◄Hello! I'm Dipstick (A067922) and I'm a 1-year-old kitty boy. Let me tell you a little secret: I might look like an all-black cat but the very tip of my tail is white and every-one tells me that makes me very special and extra sweet! I'm super friendly and outgo-ing - give me a good back rub and we're best friends for life! I also enjoy playing with toys and entertaining the humans. Come visit and see if I could be your new family member!

►Hello! My name is Clayton (A068187) and

I’m a 2-year-old male kitty. I am quite the cuddle bug - if you hold out your hand, I

will definitely take that as an invitation to rub against it! I like to make myself at

home wherever I am so don't be surprised if I hop right into your lap! I have

beautiful orange and white fur and would be a great new companion for you

and your family. Please hurry out and meet me - I’d love to begin the New

Year in a new home!

Spot ►Hi there, friends! I have a

feeling you’re gonna love my name. It’s...wait for it…

Van Furball (A068711)! Is that the coolest name or

what? I'm a 1-year-old male Tabby and I’m the

total package: charming, affectionate and playful! I'm

loving life but I sure would love it even more if I had a family of my own. If you've

been seeking a feline friend, visit the shelter and tell

them I’m your kind of guy.

◄Hi everyone! I'm Noel (A068992), a 3-year-old spayed female kitty. I'm a low-maintenance gal - it doesn't take a whole lot to keep me happy! Just good back rubs, cat treats and a few fun toys! Oh, and of course, a loving family! Please come visit and see if I could be the kitty you’re looking for!

Millie is my name and they say I’m a

special needs pup. I really don’t know

why. My rear foot is deformed, but it doesn’t stop me from playing and

running. Concrete and stones can be a little hard on my paw

once in a while. I have a little hearing

problem too, but nothing stops me

from being a loving pooch! We think I’m a Bulldog/Boxer mix, just 1½-years-old. I’m spayed, vaccinated and 35 pounds. I love being

around people and other dogs that like to play. I am walking nicely on a leash and learning different com-

mands. I know that my “special someone” is out there. Hopefully, it’s you! If you’d like to meet me, simply drop by Paw’s Place any day from 9 – Noon. You can also

sweet and soft- tempered. I will

cuddle up to you gently. I’m

not shy and love to be near

you. If you meet me, you won't leave without me, I prom-ise. My mom is Hannah and my sister is Polka. They’re

pictured on this page as well. Let’s meet real soon!

◄Hello! I'm Monica. I’m a 16-week-old girl kitten.

So nice to meet you! If you didn't

know, great things come in small pack-ages. I'm a petite princess. I love to

snuggle and be petted. I also love other friendly cats

but I stay away from dominant, bossy ones. Come visit me at Petsmart

in Wilmington. My sweet, well-mannered and playful self will melt your heart! Hope to be seeing you real soon.

◄Hi! I'm Polka. I'm Simon's

sister. Hannah is my mom. But

I'm the real kitten of the

bunch. I love to play, play, and

play some more. I'm curi-ous so I like to get into every-

thing and play in the litterbox. I'm loads of fun and a little bit of trouble but so cute that I'm hard to resist. Come to

PetSmart in Wilmington to meet my family. We'd be great companions for the holidays and all year.

◄Hi! My name is

Hannah. I just had

◄Hi! My name is Panther. Nice to meet you! I'm a young girl, just 6-months-old, and I was rescued from a shelter where I was running out of time. I’m so glad to now be with Cat Adoption Team! Hi there! I'm

Dreamy. I was res-cued from a shelter

where I was running out

of time. Don’t you

think I have the cutest little head

turn? Some say I

look like Zoolander,

the ridiculously good-looking male model from the movie. Of course, I’m a girl, and I think it makes me look sophisti-cated and curious. I am also very sweet and loving. I love to play and run. Oh, and I'm definitely a climber. I climb as high as I can without any fear. And yes, I’m spayed,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Come visit me at PetSmart in Wilmington or give Cat Adoption Team a call

at 910-792-9014. They’ll be happy to tell you anything else about me you’d like to know!

I am sponsored by ECM Corporation. Thank you!

Dixie – that’s me! Beautiful!

That’s what people say when they see

me. I have very pretty markings. You see, I’m a

Hound mix. I’m now a year old – but still a puppy – and I’ve got lots of energy. A family that would spend time with me and play with me in a fenced yard or

take me running would be perfect. Paw’s Place has

made sure that I’m up to date on my shots. I’m also heartworm negative and

have been spayed. I’m a tall girl who weighs about 35 pounds. I really love people, especially children. Stop by Paw’s Place to see if we are a match. For directions or

Cat Tails

◄Although the President of Cat Tails is named

Trish, there is no resemblance. First of all, I am young,

she is old, I am black, she is white, I

am sweet… well, we won’t go there. Can’t afford to tick the boss off if you know what I mean. I am only 6-months young and probably the most affection-

ate cat you’ll ever pick up. I grew up around pups and didn’t mind those either. So if you want the world’s greatest cat,

let’s start 2014 off together.

►Double trouble, that’s what they call us. Can’t be sure

without a DNA

test, but you can

look and

decide for

your-selves. We are

Van and Von, twin 7-month-old brothers. We are classic orange Tabbies, who you will be unable to tell apart. But please don’t dress us in identical outfits. We hate that!

◄“Doctor Livingston, I

presume?” No, it’s just me,

plain Livingston, the black and

white kitten - but I am an explorer like my name-sake. And just like the doc, I

bet I can get lost playing in your house. But I know just like Stanley, you

could find me! I am quite the character, very independent and I love to play

the fool. So if you want non-stop silliness, I am the 6-month-old kitten for you.

◄Glückliches neues Jahr, or happy new year in English. Why speak German? Well, I’m obviously of Ger-man descent with a name like Fritz. But I don’t like knockwurst or sauerkraut. Just some kitten food will do since I’m just 9-months-old. So for a little ball of “grau” (gray in English) fur, and a little bit of German in your life, take me home.

◄Everyone wants the long-haired cat so why

am I still here? Not only am I long-haired but I am

a pastel Torti, which is another perk. So I have

two stars beside my name, which is Jolene. I think I’m still waiting for that special someone

because I am a little timid. People want a cat who runs up to them like a

dog! Well, I’m too sophis-ticated for that nonsense. I promise I’ll be your best

friend if you give me five minutes to get to know you.

►Spunky! Boy is that name going

to sound silly once I get older, but it’s a

great name for a fun

loving, high-octane,

silly, foolish, 6-month-

old, brown marbled Tabby. Once I

“mature” though, I may need a more sophisticated name. Maybe

something along the lines of “Your Royal Highness”. Okay, that might be a bit much, but you could call me “Sir

Spunky”. Anyway, just don’t call me late for dinner!

►My name is Ruby (A298093) and I’m a very friendly Border Collie and

Dalmatian mix who is spayed and vaccinated. I’m just

1-year-old, I know how to sit on command, I love belly

rubs, and I enjoy being near you. I was picked up by Ani-mal Control after someone left me tied to a picnic table at Ogden Park. Not really much of a picnic for me! I

think life is meant to be spent having fun and loving with all of your heart. I’m very eager to find a forever family. Would you please let me love you?

◄Being alone and trying to survive on the streets is no

place for a little baby like me. My name is Woody

(A298057) and I’m a 4-month-old, charming Tabby boy. I’m current on vaccina-tions and I’ve already been neutered. I’m very thankful that someone scooped me up and brought me here to

the safety of the Animal Con-trol shelter but I am eager to

find a special someone to adopt me. I love to be held and will make lots of kitty

biscuits with my paws. I’m curious and playful, I’m very purry and loving, I enjoy kitty

treats, I love being rubbed, I’m good with other kitties and I’m the awesome companion you need in your life!

►Meow, meow, meow. My name is Harrison (A298094) and I’m an

8-month-old Tabby boy. I was picked up by Animal

Control as a stray and was wearing a purple nylon col-

lar with a bell (but no ID tags)! I’m very friendly and

will totally relax in your arms, just like a ragdoll. And I purr all the time! If

you reach down to pet me, I’ll reach up and meet you halfway. I just love being

rubbed and petted and don’t mind belly rubs. I’ve liked visiting with the other kitties

here at the shelter but I would much rather visit with you!

◄If you are the kind of per-son who adopts a dog and

never views them as dispos-able, then let me have your

attention. My name is Rocky (A298390) and I’m a 7-month-old boy who is neutered and

vaccinated. I love to play ball, I love belly rubs, I love to run but will also chill out with

you, I know how to sit on command and I’m already

house-trained. I’m very smart and food motivated so it will

be a lot of fun to train me and teach me new tricks. I need

to find a home with a loving family who will give me a toy box full of toys. I like toys! Hope to love you soon.

►“This guy will make a great pet.” It says so right

on my paperwork! My name is Jengo (A298188) and my two favorite things are belly rubs and chew toys. At just 7-months of age, I am house-trained,

crate-trained, leash-trained and I know how to sit, lay down and shake on com-

mand. I’m a German Shep-herd mix who has been

neutered and vaccinated. I would love to find a home where I’ll never have to worry about my future again. Please call or stop by the

shelter if you would like to make a lifetime commitment to me. I’ll promise to make the same commitment to you and

fill your life with unconditional love (and daily kisses).

◄If you are looking for a handsome man with a heart of gold, it would be in your best interest to meet me. My name is Oscar (A298118) and I’m a 1-year-old, neutered and vaccinated or-ange Tabby. I was brought to the shelter in a box and left at the front door. I love to be held and petted. I’m a family cat without a family to love. Please let me save you.

My life didn't start out the

greatest - but now I am

happy and healthy and ready for my

fur-ever home! My name is

Allie and I am a 50 pound, 4-year-old wire-haired Terrier mix girl. As a

puppy I lived in a shelter until

one day I thought I had gotten lucky

because I was able to leave. But instead I went to a labo-ratory where they did tests on me and other dogs that

lived there. Fortunately for me, one of the lab techs fell in love with me and didn't want to see me have to stay there anymore. Somehow she talked them into letting me go - but sadly she couldn't keep me! So now I am at SOAR,

waiting for my new family. I play with other dogs and toys and have a sunny disposition. But what would make me happiest is a cat-free home with lots of love where I could feel safe and stay forever. I promise to thank you every day with kisses and grateful cuddles! Please call SOAR

at 910-457-6340 and let’s get started.

I am sponsored by Ruby and Netop. Thank you!

I’m a cute little ball of

fur who came to

Schnauzer Rescue of

the Carolinas from a shel-ter where the

staff fell in love with me! Not much is known about

my back-ground, but we do know I’m a 1 to 2-

year-old Pomeranian weighing in at 8 pounds, and my name is Birdie. I was a little shy at the shelter but I’ve become a social butterfly in my foster

home where I am being well taken care of and given much TLC! I am living with a male dog and I get along great with him. I am not an alpha in the least. I am also sharing the

house with cats whom I would love to play with, but they do not share the same interest in me. All in all, I am a wonder-ful little girl and would make someone a wonderful compan-ion! So if you are interested in a precious little girl, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you

can fill out an application or view other pets up for adoption. If you need an application mailed or faxed, please call

781-799-4272.

◄Hi, I’m Drake! I’m a little shy and, at 3, I still have a lot of puppy in

my play My owner had to give me up when he went away to school and I was a little sad

about that. They think I’m a Lab/Grehound

mix. I’m kind of partial to young guys, but that’s

only because I know how awesome living

with one can be. I hear girls are pretty cool, too. I just want to go to a real home. Do you have room in your

heart and home for me? Come and visit me - I'm the one running in my kennel with a big stuffed toy - I love it!

◄Maggie’s my name. My owner surren-dered me. I

don’t think he really had time for me. I’m a

young girl (less than 2-years)

who has a lot to learn, but I am very smart and

I’m sure that with the right person or family, I will be a super dog. I’m a “people” kind of dog. I get along with

some dogs better than others. It would be a good idea for me to be crate-trained until I know the rules of the house.

What do you think – can we play together?

▲Hi, my name is Laurel. I’ve heard the other dogs say there is something called a forever home, but I haven’t seen one yet. I’m a 6-year-old girl who is

hoping to see one real soon! I don’t ask for much, but it would be really cool if there were another small pup

around to teach me the ropes. Just look at my tail. It’s born to wag! Do you have one of those forever

homes for me? Pretty please?

◄Hi, I’m Wheelie, and I do have a free- wheeling personality. I can also be calm and love humans. I’m very gentle and sociable. I really like it at Paw’s

Place, but I’d be happi-est in a loving home

where I could just curl up at my human’s feet

and relax or have a nice, fenced-in yard to

play and run free. I walk well on a leash – maybe we could even go for evening strolls! Does this sound like you? Come talk to the people at Paw’s Place and let’s

see if we are a match.

◄I’m Casper, Laurel’s half- brother. We had a not-so- great home before, but the people here tell me that’s not the way it normally is.

I survived by staying under the radar, but I can act

tough if the big dogs give me a hard time. Do you

have a home where I can just be sweet me? I would probably do best in a home

without children. It would be really cool if you had an-other small dog or even if Laurel and I could be

adopted together. At just under 3-years-old, I’m a little

rough around the edges, but I know that I can learn to trust people again. What do you say – give me a chance?

◄Looking to add a four-legged friend to your family? Please consider me, Joker.

I’m a Jack Russell mix and have been with

Paw’s Place for almost two years. I’m ex-

tremely nurturing and would do well with another small dog.

Right now I’m sharing quarters with two other doggies. Please give me a chance. I have lots of love to give!

Don't overlook me, I’m a diamond in the rough. Come to Paw’s Place and let’s get acquainted.

My name is Luxi and I am a 2-year-old

female Pitbull. My old humans didn't

take care of me and some nice people

with badges came to save me. I went to this place called a

shelter where I met a nice lady who prom-ised to help me. She came to get me one day and since then,

my life has been awesome. I get to

live in a house where it’s warm, and I even have friends to play with. I love playing

with other dogs, and I even get along with cats. Even though I am a big girl, I love to cuddle and would be more

than happy to cuddle on the couch or in bed with you. I am really smart, am house and crate-trained, and know basic commands. I love to go for rides and take trips to the dog park. I am vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and tested heartworm negative. All I need now is a family to call my own. If you would like more information on how to adopt

me, please contact 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue at 252-531-0744 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan.

Everybody wins with adoption!

Beauregard here, but you can call me

Beau. It was a rather bit chilly on my

walk this morning. I saw some

squirrels and rabbits. I

know the dif-ference be-tween the

two. My foster dad tried to trick me at the end of his leash. He walked on my left, but I slid behind him each time to

take my rightful position on his left. If he didn’t tether him-self to me with that leash, I swear he wouldn’t know how to get back to the house. The grub here is pretty good. I’m

looking forward to working it off soon at this place dad calls the “dog park.” I’m ready because I had a good night sleep last night. I now know when I go in that crate at night, dad will be there to let me out in the morning. No further need to protest that. Once this ear infection is over with, I would

be more than happy to grace your presence by coming home. To make me a member of your family, please call

919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, please contact Carolina Basset Hound Rescue for more details. Tail wags and kindest

regards, Beauregard

I am sponsored in loving memory of Solo.

◄I’m the kind of friendly kitty that anyone can pick up and cuddle, no problem! I’m Miss Fifi (A010301), a gorgeous long-haired Tortoiseshell girl. I was found as a stray, but I must have once been part of a fam-ily as I’m used to being around people and enjoy being held. They tell me I’m just 2-years-old, so I have a long life ahead making you very happy! Come on over quick!

◄Do blue-eyed Siamese boys get your heart a-racin’? Well, your heart is going to go into over-drive when you drop by and meet me! I’m Sushi (A010903), a 2-year-old boy who lost my home when my owner died. I’m a declawed cat, so I’ll need to stay inside out of harm’s way. It’s the lifestyle I’m used to. I lived with other cats and am very friendly and loving. Please give me the home that I’m longing for!

All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for

fleas/ticks prior to adoption. Microchipping is also available for just $15!

◄Great Dane fan? Well, come get me! My name is Ava (A010873) and I’m a very sweet lady who is searching for my forever family. I’m a 4-year-old girl who weighs in at 80 pounds. I was found as a stray and am friendly to all I meet. I enjoyed the cookies they gave me at my photo shoot and I melted everyone’s heart with my big, brown eyes. I’d prefer to be the only dog in my new family. Would you come meet me?

►I’m as soft as a bunny and sweet as can be. So why am I living without a family to love? My name

is Bella (A010963) and I’m a complete lovebug, perfectly happy to sit in your arms and feel your

fingers rubbing my fur. I’m a beautiful girl who was

found as a stray, but I sure do act as though I was once well-loved by hu-

mans. It’s a mystery why I’m now alone, but you

can be my lucky adopter!

◄I’m the kind of girl who makes friends with every human I meet! So think what a gem you’ll be getting if you adopt me! I’m Alley (A010896), a 3-year-old sweetheart who keeps her kennel clean (that means I’m litterbox-trained) and I’ve never shown any aggression to the other cats when I’m loose in the kitty area. I’m playful and have an adorable personality. Adopt me - you’ll be so glad you did!

►Well-behaved and very loving! What on earth am I doing at a

shelter where I am running out of time?

My name is Cody (A010936) and I’m a 3-

year-old boy who is a nice medium size at

just 40 pounds. Listen to all my qualities: I’m house-trained, leash-

trained, friendly to other dogs, sweet to

cats and I love human children. I’m just the

perfect little Black Lab mix! Please hurry over

and adopt me today!

My mother is Chanel. We are tiny Chihuahua girls who were found abandoned in a trailer. They tell us we’re 4 to 5-years-old and we are spayed, vaccinated and on heart-

worm prevention. We are gentle, quiet dogs who love peo-ple. We enjoy hanging out with you and keeping you com-pany. We will roll over and let you rub our soft bellies. We also will hop in your lap and let you cuddle us as long as

you like! We can be adopted together or separately, but it would be so wonderful to be adopted together. After all,

I’ve Been At The Shelter

Since August 2013!!

I’m Running Out of Time!!

Why am I over-looked, month after month?

I’m just a sweet young girl, less than a year old, who yearns to

be part of a fam-ily. My name is

Princess (A009891) and I love to be held, as you can see from my photo. I don’t struggle

to get down and am content to be snuggled close. Who will be the one to rescue this princess from her cage? I’ll be so

very grateful and will fill my new family’s life with smiles, purrs and warm embraces. My adoption fee includes my

spay surgery, vaccinations, deworming and flea treatment. It’s quite a deal! If you’d like to meet me, please call

Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. Please let me begin the

New Year with you!

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital. Happy New Year!

Hi, my name is Danny. I was

rescued and given to Carolina Animal Protection Society when neighbors

saw me struggling to find food and

shelter. Can you believe my family would move away and leave me be-hind? You see, I only have three legs (missing a

back leg). I was so happy to be back inside with lots of food, fresh water,

and love. I get along well with other cats and I love atten-tion. I am very sweet and social and I would love a for-ever home with lots of love. CAPS has two other cats (one adult named Simon and one kitten named Elliot -

who are also missing back legs). It does not affect their day to day living skills. They just need someone to give them a chance. CAPS is also reducing the adoption fee

for any cat over the age of 5. The older cats would love a chance for a forever home with lots of love. Please con-sider adopting an older cat or one with a disability - they would be a great addition to any family and very grateful. Please contact Debbie with Carolina Animal Protection

Society at 910-330-1376, [email protected], or capsrescue.com with any questions.

Sponsored in honor of all black cats. Black cats rule!

My name is Miss Sophie and I am a 7-year-old

Yorkie who has had quite a rough year. My back leg was broken two times this year. It has finally healed but it’s fragile. I had been

living in the most wonderful foster home for 3-months

during my recuperation and now I’m living in another foster home until I am

adopted. Due to the lack of care through the years, all of my top teeth have been removed. I can eat dry,

moistened food just fine. I am spayed, have a micro-chip and only weigh 5 itty, bitty pounds. I cannot live

in a home with a large dog or dogs who would be too rough with me. I truly love to be with people all the time and will sit right next to you or on your lap - that’s even better. I love to play with soft toys, a crate is a calm, safe place for me and I

am house-trained. I have been in and out of hospitals for the past 4-months and 2 foster homes and am more than ready to settle into a home with a family of my very own. Contact my Furever Friends Animal Rescue foster mom,

Sharon, at 910-617-3760 if you are interested in me.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Stevie, who was born blind and deaf but was adopted as a puppy and

lived a full and happy life for over nine years.

I'm Cleo and I am a little shy at first, but I

warm up quickly and am super loving. I really just want a home to call my own, and someone to

love me. I was found wander-ing alone out

by a dumpster at a local fast food restau-rant. It was

sad, but I am super happy to be in a loving foster home now. I hope my luck has turned around and I

It’s been two months since my

brother was adopted and I’m still waiting for a

home at the shelter! How can that be? Where

are all the people who love orange Tabby boys? I

just know you’re out there! Well, I’m managing to make the best of things with my upbeat, friendly personality and

I’ve become pals with another kitty here. If you have a kitty, I’m sure

I’d form a bond with him or her, too! Or I can be your only cat - I just need a home! I’m a 7-month-old boy that you can have the honor of naming after my adoption. Please

◄To look at me, you’d never guess that I’m 8-years-old! I’m a tiny girl named Sabrina and I’m sad to say that I’ve been returned to the shelter after being part of a loving family for years. My senior citizen Mom had to move and couldn’t take me with her. I’m a very sweet and affectionate girl who is hoping that I won’t have to stay at the shelter for much longer. Won’t you please take me home with you?

◄Puppy Power to the rescue! I can chase the blues away or make a happy day even more

joyful! No wonder every-one smiles when I’m

around. I’m Sunshine, a Boxer mix puppy girl

looking for a loving home. I came to the

shelter with my brothers and sisters and they’ve all been adopted. What about me? I’m friendly, affectionate and perfect for a family! I get along great with other dogs

and am healthy and happy. Let me begin 2014 with you!

►Looking for a precious

puppy? We are two of four sisters waiting for you at the shelter! They

call us the ‘Little Women’

and our names are Jo, Beth, Meg and

Amy. They tell us we look just like Black Mouth Cur puppies. We are 8-weeks-old and have loveable, affectionate, playful personali-ties. You can’t go wrong with anyone you pick. Hurry on out

to the shelter and bring home your new best friend!

►We are Whippet

mix sisters named

Cagney and

Lacey. We are

searching for loving homes

and do not have to be adopted together. At just 6-months-old, we’re small dogs who are sweet as pie and happy to meet all new people! We were running out of time when Pender County Humane Society took us in. We’re spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Adopt one (or both) of us and feel the love!

◄Simply wonderful, that’s me! My name is

Wesley and I was found abandoned in some-

one’s yard. The mystery is why anyone would do

such a thing because I’m a very well-behaved and well-trained boy. At just 2-years of age, I’m a Lab/Husky mix who is a nice medium-size. I’m

house-trained (yes!) and I get along great with

other dogs. I can sit on command and am neu-tered and healthy. The

only thing I’m lacking in life is a loving family!

My Adoption Fee has already been paid!

◄I’m a little miss named Miss Priss!

I was found as a stray with a leash

dragging behind me. As sweet as I am, it

seems someone would be missing

me, but no one has come to claim me. My new friends at

the shelter are going to do their best to find me a loving

home. I’m a small Feist/Rat Terrier mix

who gets along with other dogs. I love all people, too!

My name is Miles and I am a 19-month-old Pomera-

nian and I weigh 15 pounds. I’m good with other

dogs, I love people, and I’m house-trained and crate-trained. I was surrendered to Animal Control by my owners when I came down with an

upper respiratory infection and they did not have the money to take me to the vet. The people at Animal Con-

trol called the nice people at Carolina Poodle Rescue. After a great bath, good food, medication and a nice,

warm bed - I am much better! My foster mom says I am a loving little boy who chases balls all over the house. The first thing I did when I came to my foster home was to dig

through the entire toy box and pull out every single ball (all 8 of them)! I have them "stashed" all over the house.

Every time mom thinks she has picked them all up, I go and get another one from hiding! It is a great game. I am a very laid back little boy and happy just being in the room with you. I love to go in the car, walks are wonderful and

playing ball in the yard is the best! Do you have a place in your heart and a forever home for me, for the holidays?

Hello up there! I’m Andy, a 1½-year-old boy who is

possibly a mix of Feist and Chihuahua. My weight is

about 25 pounds and I have the cut-est underbite. I was rescued from the shel-ter when my time was up.

Unfortunately, due to lack of prior medical care, including vaccines, I contracted a contagious respiratory infection

and had a rocky road back to recovery. I seem to do well with docile female dogs and I love my people. During my hospital stay, I became very attached to the staff and en-joyed spending time in their laps, resting my head on their shoulder. My nickname should be Scrappy because that does describe me. I would do well in an adult household

and I am house-trained, crate-trained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. I will make a

wonderful companion to a committed household! For more information, email Sunburst Foundation at

[email protected] or call 910-622-0011.

addition OR if you have a doggie already who needs a playmate, I am the boy for you! I am new to Pender Perfect Pets and I came from Brunswick Animal Shelter. I lived there for five long months and became a shelter favorite. Come meet me and find out

why everyone loves me so much. Please call my rescue today. I can’t wait to meet you!!!!

◄Hi, my name is Sadie and I am a 3-year-old blue Pit Bull

girl. I was found in a bad part of town with a huge chain wrapped around my neck. Thankfully for

me, some nice people came along and rescued me off of the side of the road and got in touch with Pender Perfect Pets to help me out. I am a very sweet girl. I am very calm and mellow. I am house-trained and crate-trained. I also get along with

other doggies. I am anxious to be in my furever home. Please, will you consider adopting me?

Call my rescue about me today at 910-538-0106. I’ll see you soon!!!

◄Hi, my name is

Caine and I am an 11-year-old

American Bulldog.

Please don't stop reading this because of my age - I have a story to tell you!

You see, my daddy who has had me

since I was a baby was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and he had to go live with his daughter. Unfor-

tunately, I have never grown up with any other pets so sharing a home with them was just not ideal for me. My dad’s daughter has cats therefore I couldn't go with my

daddy. Thankfully, after hearing my story, Pender Perfect Pets took me in to foster care. My foster mommy describes me as a pure and beautiful gem and a gentle soul. I abso-lutely love people and all I want to do is be by someone’s

side. I am completely house-trained and I don't even have to go into a crate when you’re not home. I know I am a little bit older, but I promise my loyalty, playfulness and spirit will

make you forget all about my age. After all, age is just a number! Please, will you call my foster mommy about me at 910-538-0106? She says that I would make someone the most wonderful companion and that people have no idea what they are missing by not adopting me. I really

hope you will call about me soon. I'm ready to spend the rest of my life by your side. Love, Caine

►Hi, it’s me, Dory. I am a 2-year-old Pit Bull mix. I have been waiting for my furever home for soooo long now. It’s been almost four months

since I came into rescue with Pender Perfect Pets and I don't understand

why it hasn't been my turn to be adopted! I am such a good girl. I go

to the dog park often and make many dog friends. I am crate-trained and house-trained. I am a people-

pleaser and will do whatever I can to make you happy with me. I would be wonderful as a beach dog or running partner. Please,

will you call my rescue today? Come meet me and I assure you that you will LOVE me. Then I can be your furever fur

kid and you can be my dream come true!

◄Hi, my name is Scully. I am a 3-year-old, mini Pit Bull girl. I was found on the side

of the road almost dead from starvation, but here I am today at a healthy 40 pounds. I

have a few deformi-ties, like turned-out

legs, from lack of food in my previous life but it doesn't stop me from

doing normal dog things. I have been so

neglected my whole life, however, that I do have a fear of other animals. I need to be the only pet and I need someone who understands

that I need some training for my fear. Pender Perfect Pets will provide the training so that I can be the best dog I can be. I will tell you, though, that I LOVE PEOPLE. I am a

people-pleaser and I will be the most loyal dog.

Orange Tabby Cat

Lovers, where are you? I’m a 7-month-old

orange Tabby kitten boy who has been living at this shelter

for one month. I’ve been busy showing everyone

how sweet I am with my

purring nature and my fondness for being rubbed. But even though I’m treated well here, I want to be a family cat and live with folks who will love me forever! I was found as a stray and am used to an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. I’ll be a

friendly, loving companion to the person or family who adopts me - so please hurry! I can be found at the New Hanover Humane Society. Give them a call at 910-763-

6692 - they’ll be happy to tell you how wonderful I am. And you can christen me with a name once you get to know me.

Hello! My name is Rocco and I’m a little

boy, just 2-years-old. I once had a home but the

other cat didn’t take a liking to me. It’s odd, because I get along great with other

felines! I play very nicely with the other kitties at the shelter. In my photo,

I’m relaxing in my kitty condo. Since I’m used

to living indoors, I’ll be happy to do this at your house! I’m a very friendly and loving lap cat who is ready to make you feel adored. All you have to do is adopt me! For more infor-mation, please call the New Hanover Humane Society at

910-763-6692. See you soon!

Hello and please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Melanie. At 12-weeks of age, I am an adorable grey girl who is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. You may notice that I have only one eye, but that does not

hold me back from anything! I was a stray in a colony of too many kitties. The cold I caught damaged my eye be-yond repair, so the nice veterinarian had to take care of me. Getting along with others is one of my best traits. Please give me the love and time to blossom and feel

comfortable. I am a very sweet girl who deserves a spec-tacular second chance and a home to call my own. If you would like to know more information about me, call Adopt-

An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. You can visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Aren’t I a handsome boy? My name is Watson and I’ve just got out of

prison and am looking

for a home.

No, I’m not a “bad

dog”, I am a graduate

of the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program where I went for training after they rescued me from Pender Animal Control. I was a hunting dog before, they can tell because my ear is cut as a

mark of that. I don’t like loud noises, though, so I guess that’s why they dumped me at the shelter. I also was heart-worm positive but got treated for that and am now negative

and on prevention. I’m still a little shy of folks because of that awful start, but I warm up quickly after I get to know you a bit. I’m a 2-year-old Walker Hound mixed with some Greyhound. I’m a very quiet, polite boy and I do very well with other dogs and cats. Can you please give me a chance to start the new year with a family of my own? Call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Applications are on our

website at www.montyshome.org.

I am sponsored by “Grandma Jeana” in loving memory of Sophie.

My name is Watson and I’m a 2-year-old Greyhound/Walker Hound mix. This photo was taken

when I was rescued from the shelter three months ago. You can see in my eyes that I have been through so much. I have been in training at New Hano-ver Prison since then and am making lots of progress! I’m still

very shy of new things and noises, but I’m a sweet boy and would love to have a

family. I get along great with other dogs. My buddy Sher-lock was adopted last month and I miss him, so please con-

sider helping me with a new beginning in a forever home! Call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email

[email protected].

Thank you to Connie and Addie for sponsoring and helping me find a home!

Hi, my name is Sancho. I was surrendered to

C.A.R.E. because I had parvo. Under the gentle hands of

C.A.R.E. I was nursed back to health. I need

someone with pa-tience since it takes a while to warm up to new people. The only people so far I have come to be

fond of are adults. Once I get to know you, we'll be best friends. Plus I am the cutest Chihua-hua ever!!! If you

are interested in adopting me, please see the required specifications and adoption application at carewilming-ton.org. Please call 910-256-2624 with any questions.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who

supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us!

◄FOSTER HOME NEEDED!

My name is Baby Bear and I’m approximately 1-year-old and I weigh 27 to 30 pounds. Southport Oak Island Animal

Rescue (SOAR) is looking for a foster home for me. I’m

a precious but extremely scared Shepherd mix.

Although I love and trust other animals, I am petrified of people. It will take a spe-

cial person to foster and work with me. I need someone with lots of patience and I need to be fostered with another dog or dogs. SOAR will provide you with all the information on me

and they will also provide a consultation with my trainer.

◄They got it right when they named me Baby! That’s what I am - a big baby! I am such a sweet girl! I love to play and be petted and I do really well walking on a har-ness. I can even sit! And there's nothing I like more than playing with squeaky toys. I am about 5-years-old but still love to run like a puppy. (I just wear out easier and faster!!!) I would love for 2014 to be the year you adopt me!

►My name is Betty and, as you can see, I

am a little sad right now! I had a twin sis-

ter named Sue and she was adopted! Great for her - not so much

for me! Even though I live in the open cat

room, I am still a little lonely without her and

would love to find a "furr-ever" home of my

own! Besides - I am the prettier and

sweeter one anyway! I am also very affec-

tionate - and did I mention pretty?

►Now just look at this face! You cannot tell

me that I am not one of the most handsome

cats EVER! Some say I look like Tom Selleck (Magnum PI) with my

mustache! My name is Taz and I am about

5-years- old. I am just a furry bundle of love.

BUT, there is one thing you should know...I

have feline immunodefi-ciency virus, which

compromises my im-mune system. But with a proper diet and good care - just like you’d give any other cat - I will live a fairly long, regu-lar life. I will have to be your "one and only" cat - but that

will be fiiiiiiinnnnne by me!

►Konnichiwa! Yes, I can speak Japa-

nese! With a name like Sake - I bet-

ter! Not only am I a beautiful girl - I am prim, proper, sweet

and ohhhhhh so soft!!!Being 5-years-old, I

am pretty much out of the kitten stage and

more in the “Let’s just chill and you can rub

my head” stage! I live in the open cat room

so I am fine with other cats - I would just like a place to call my own. Oh yes, I am also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Adopt me!

►My name is Blair and they say I may be a Rus-

sian Blue - but I'm not really sure what that

means! All I know is that I am about 1-year-old and

would love to come live with you! Rub me or

brush me and I will love you forever! Currently I live in a "cat condo" and had a roommate (my son

Baxter) until recently when he was moved into a foster home. So I think I should be ok with other cats as long as we are

introduced properly. I am really looking forward to meeting you soon!

My name is Lyla and I have not met a person or animal that I didn’t like! If you’re friendly

and social like me, I bet we would make a great team! At just 2½-years-old, I’m a Boxer mix girl who is already spayed,

vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. I love to play with toys and I

love to receive attention from humans. I am

great with cats, other dogs and I love children,

but I’d probably fit in best with older kids because of my energy. I’m also doing very well with my basic commands! We can take trips to the dog park or beach and have a fantastic life together.

I’d love to play in our fenced yard, go for walks in the neighborhood and snuggle on the couch with you. If all this sounds good, call SOAR today and inquire about

adopting me! Their number is 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

My name is Shelby and I'm a female Hound

mix who is up to date on

my shots. I weigh

about 65 pounds and am almost

7-years-old. I am

a real “people”

dog and I’ve been at Paw’s Place for a year now. I’m hop-ing that my new family comes along soon. When I wag my tail, my whole body wags with it. I’m looking to spend my life with a family who will take me on walks and let me run around and play in their enclosed yard. I’m a mature girl

who knows how to behave in a home. Come check me out at Paw’s Place! Simply drop by the shelter any day from 9 – Noon. You can also call my friends at 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Grace Harrington. Thank you!

◄Hello, my name is Tanner! I’m a 2-year-old English Set-ter/American Bull Dog

mix. I am quiet, gentle, house-trained and

crate-trained. My tail wags incessantly when I hear a familiar voice.

I am up to date on vaccines, neutered,

microchipped and heart-worm negative. I am a beautiful dog with strik-ing markings and will

make someone a won-derful companion. I love my people and am learning to

have more self-confidence around other dogs.

◄Hi, my name is Rusty! I’m a

2-year-old boy who appears to be a Jack Russell/Hound mix. I am very sweet. I’m also friendly to my

canine buddies and I love my people! I am somewhat shy, but my friends tell me obedi-ence training will in-

crease my self-confidence. I weigh

around 45 pounds, am up to date on shots and I’m crate-training and house-training well. Let’s get together!

◄Wheee, wanna play with me? My

name is Lola and I’m a 6-year-old Shep-

herd/Lab mix. I am a sweet-loving gal and I generally get along well with docile male dogs. I love to run and play in the yard and snuggle inside with my humans. I am house-trained, crate-trained, up to

date on vaccines and on heartworm pre-vention. I do take

glucosamine but, as you can see, I get around just fine! When you adopt me, I

will come to you with a microchip. Let’s go home!

◄I’m Kent, a 22-month-old Black Lab/Bull Dog mix who was found as a stray. I’m a favorite among the humans who know me and I also received rave reviews at two vet offices. I am up to date on vaccines, neutered, and doing well with house-training. I once had heartworms but I’ve completed my treat-ment and am ready for a new family!

BIG THANKS to everyone who partici-pated in our online auctions for the

Pender County Animal Shelter. $1,500 was raised and there will be more

fundraisers in our future. Coming up next will be Sunburst Foundation

teaming up with O2 Fitness, working out for the animals. Stay tuned...

I’m Rosie, a won-derful, small-sized girl who would love to be part of your family! At a mere 35 pounds and 6-years-old, I’m a Pug/Chow mix who is smart and friendly. I adore children and am friendly to adult hu-mans also! I’m great with cats and I get along well with docile male dogs. I’d even be a great agility dog! I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. You and I could be a perfect match!

Hi there! I'm Veronica. I'm a very sweet girl but oh so shy. I am fearful of other cats, dogs and children. I love to cuddle with my human, though! Would you

consider me as a the only pet in your family? With all the love I have to give you, you’ll never be lonely! All I

need in return is companionship, attention and care from a very special person - maybe it’s you! I’m also

spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Please come visit me at PetSmart in Wilmington or give Cat Adoption Team a call at 910-792-9014. Just give me a little bit of

time to warm up to you. I'm very loyal once you earn my trust.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Annie Lake, cherished family member to Doug and Lisa from

the Townhouse Art & Frame Center.

My name is Mama Lara. Some

people call me Mama and some Lara. It

doesn’t matter to me, at least I know have a

name! It’s been a jour-ney, but I’m so happy

that through the efforts of many people, I found my way to Paw’s Place with my four puppies. I was very protective of them because I raised them on my own out in

the woods. One by one, my puppies found loving homes and I was able to be a little more relaxed. Volunteers

have been very patient with me – I didn’t even know what a leash was. Now, I look forward to going for walks and I even wag my tail

when I see people come into the kennel. I frighten eas-ily and I still have a long way to go, but I have a good

soul and just need a person or family that will have pa-tience with me. I’m probably about 6-years-old and

about 75 pounds. My tests show that I am heartworm positive, but Paw’s Place will take care of my medical

treatment. Please come visit me and give me a chance at a real home! For more information, call Paw’s Place

at 910-845-7297.

My name is Mary and I am an exuberant, active girl. I

am full of life and lots of love. I am a Golden Retriever mix

with one blue eye. I am bright, quick on my feet, and very agile. I already know "sit" and "down", walk on a loose leash and am very

food motivated - so training me should be a snap! I do

well with other dogs, but may play too rough with cats. I am house-trained and may

need a fenced in yard, if you cannot provide me with regular exercise. I am a mid-sized girl who weighs 40 to 45 pounds. You have to meet me to see how beautiful I really am. To adopt

Hi y'all, I’m Allison and I am a gorgeous 2 to 3-

year-old flame point Sia-mese with big blue eyes

and soft silky fur with orange ears and tail. I

seriously cannot believe that I have not been

adopted yet because I am such a loving, affec-tionate girl. I know adult cats are harder to place but I am the complete package and I am past

the naughty stage. Please come by Wags and Whiskers pet store or call

R.A.C.E at 910-547-2839 to see me. You may also visit us online at raceshelter.org. Like us on Facebook.

My name is Lady, I was sup-posed to go to an out of state rescue, but because of some

very sad circumstances, I was not able to go. I was

successfully treated for heart-worms, am up to date on my shots and been spayed. I'm a 3 to 4-year-old Border Col-lie mix and I’m as sweet as I can be. I'm good on a leash

and get along with other dogs. I sometimes like to chase cats, so maybe I

should be in a home without them. I'd really like to have a

home and family to call my own. Please call 910-271-3101 to get more information about me.

Hi, I'm Freddie! When I was rescued, I had a bad eye infection. They gave me

some medicine and I'm doing great now. I'm 2-years-old and a Shepherd and Collie mix with a tan, white and

black coat. I'm up to date on my shots, neutered and

trained to an underground fence. This picture was

taken at an event I went to and I really loved meeting all

the new people. I never jumped up, but kept scooting closer and closer to my new friends. There are two dogs at my foster home and we play a lot so if you already have a dog, that

would be nice. To meet me please call 910-271-3101.

CAPE FEAR RESCUE RANGERS

We’re Norman and T-Bird. We are

purebred Javanese who no longer have

a home. T-Bird was shown at cat shows as a kitten, but he did not like

participating, so our owner stopped

showing him. I’m Norman and I’m extremely shy, so I hover next to T-Bird for everything. We sleep together, play together, and are in-

separable. Both of us love to be brushed, and stroked, and make the BEST lap kitties. We purr loudly, and love to

huddle together in a kitty bed and bask in the sun. We are 5-years-old, vaccinated, FIV negative and neutered.

Please consider us for your next family addition because we prefer to be adopted together. Call 910-623-4306.

CAPE FEAR RESCUE LEAGUE

My name is Lulu and I was found wandering in Carteret County as

a stray. I was very emaciated. Luckily, a kind woman brought me in and now I’m

living happily in a fos-ter home. I am up to

date on vaccinations, have undergone heartworm treat-ment, and have been spayed. I appear to be an 8-year-old Basset mix who is house-trained and a big people-lover. I currently live with a toddler under the age of 5. Also, I live with two dogs, but would probably do best as the only dog. Would you consider making my New Years wish come true

by providing me a forever home? For more info, contact Kim with the Cape Fear Rescue League at 910-471-5035.

My name is LC and I’m 10-years-old. I was aban-doned in a rental home.

I’ve been neutered, tested negative for Feline Leuke-

mia and FIV and been vaccinated. I had to have

dental surgery but am doing wonderfully. I am

very sweet and calm, love to lay with people and watch TV. I’m a very mild mannered cat who enjoys canned food. Once my mouth heals totally, I should be able to eat dry

food again. I deserve a chance at a loving, inside home. I would be great as a companion cat for someone who wants a sweetie pie to love. Could it be with you? Please email

[email protected] or call 910-200-0612 to adopt me.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

My name is Diamond (A071214) and I re-

cently ended up at the shelter due to no fault of my own. I’ve been

here for some time now and I’d truly like to have

a family of my own to care for. I’m a terrific 11-month-old Lab mix who is spayed, vaccinated, loving,

gentle, good with kids and other animals, and I’m the great-est companion ever. I just want the chance to make a fam-ily happy with my presence. So drop on over to the shelter and ask for me. They’ll gladly bring me out to spend some

time with you and you’ll quickly know you can’t possibly leave without me. To adopt me, call 910-455-0182. The

shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

der Collie mix - all of 43 pounds. I am a super sweet guy who is very

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

When I was first brought to the shelter, I had a rope tied around my neck and I was so scared I tried to hide at the back of the

kennel. The volunteer saw something special about me and gave me the name Hope. I've

come a long way since then! I'm around 1-year-old, and at times can be a little shy, but mostly I'm

outgoing. They think I'm a Shepherd and Shar-Pei mix. My foster mom said that I'm the smartest, most loveable foster she has ever had. I'm house-trained, good on a

leash, trained to an underground fence and great with other dogs and cats. I'm spayed, vaccinated and weigh around

35 pounds. I'd sure like to start off the new year with a fam-ily of my own. If you want to meet me, call 910-271-3101.

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.)

Hello, my name is Addie! I am a Hound Mix who was

found out in the woods. I was very skinny and had lots of

worms when they found me, but now the staff at C.A.R.E. has been helping me to get better every day. I am very

good with kids and love to be outside with my Caregivers. I'm still a little nervous with

new people, but once I know you love me -- look out!!! If

you are interested in adopting me, please see the application and the required specifica-

tions before applying at carewilmington.org. If you have any questions, please call 910-256-2624.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, I’m a young lady named Khia, and I’m a beautiful Blue-Nose

Pitty. My original owner is in the military and was shipped out. Of course, I couldn't go. I did end up in a friend’s care and at that time I swallowed a

corn cob by accident and it got lodged in my intestines. PEAR took me in and had it removed. There were many other internal problems and

the vet bills piled up. I am also in need of heartworm treat-ment. If interested in fostering and/or helping out with do-nations, contact PEAR at [email protected] or call

910-675-0867. I also am searching for a new forever family!

R.A.C.E. (Rescue Animals Community Effort)

My name is Sylvester and I have been in foster care for a long time and would really love a family of my own. I am a fantas-tic, handsome boy who loves to sit in the window and watch the world go by. I am no trouble at all and I get along fine with other cats. Can you please take a chance on me and adopt me in the New Year? Please con-tact R.A.C.E. at 910-547-2839 or visit us on the web at raceshelter.org.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Happy New Year! Well, for you maybe, for me

not so much. I was really hoping to be in my for-ever home by now but I keep getting bypassed.

My name is Watson and I’ve graduated from the

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program with

Monty’s Home. I’m still a bit shy but have come

such a long way! I am a 2-year-old boy, a Greyhound/Walker Hound mix, and I’m very good with other dogs. I’m also very sweet once I get to know you. I would love to live with other dogs and am ok with cats, too. Can you please consider meeting me?

Call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Applications are on the website at www.montyshome.org.

I’m Petunia, a 2-year-old, brightly colored female Sun Conure. I would

love to find a long-term home and family who will appreciate me and give me lots of love and attention.

Like all Sun Conures, I enjoy a daily bath. I have no health problems, am a good eater and am very active. I need to be in a home that has no

dogs, as I had numerous bad experi-ences in the past. Won't you con-

sider making me part of your family? To adopt or foster me or another of the many parrots awaiting homes, con-

tact Phoenix Landing at www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/foster), send an email to us at

Well - I was all dressed up and

ready to be someone’s new best friend on

Christmas Day, but - nobody ever came!

And I just don't know why! My name is Fonzie and I am one cool dude! I

may be a little short - but don't

hold that against me! I am about 5-years-old

and I’m a Bea-gle mix. Laid-

back and very affectionate is how most of the volunteers describe me! Oh - and of course ADORABLE! I love to play with tennis balls and my other favorite thing is to be petted. I am a very family-oriented dog who is smart and

eager to please. To meet me, call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They’ll be happy to tell you how we can get together!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Now you can call me Max…or you can call me Baxter…or you can call me Boy - that’s what I go by currently. I just

want you to call me! I’m in the market for a forever home. I

love going for long walks on the beach or short walks in your neighborhood – totally your

call. See how easy I am to get along with? And I really love spending quality time in the backyard. I prefer being an only child, not such a big fan of other four-legged things

hanging around. I’m a happy camper, eager to please, and I love to get belly rubs and lots of attention. Are you look-ing for a new besty? To adopt me, please call CBHR at

919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.

My name is Yogi! I’m part Yorkie and part Schnauzer and I weigh around 16-17 pounds. I am crate and

house-trained and I even taught myself how to use the doggie door. I walk well on a leash and, boy, do I love car rides! I am just a baby doll who loves everyone I meet, human or animal. I love to

play so it would be good for me to have another dog as a playmate or someone that will give me constant attention. A fenced-in yard will be a plus seeing as how I love to run and play. To fill out an adoption application, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. If you need an

application mailed or faxed, please call 781-799-4272.

COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

Nice to meet you, I’m Jingles. Don’t let the grey fool you, doc

says I’m really only about 5 and when you see me run-

ning, you’ll know he’s right. I make friends easily and love to play with other dogs - it’s

easy ‘cause I can’t hear when they talk about me. You see, I’m deaf but that’s ok because I can still run fast and snuggle with my people. I learn fast,

following the other dogs around and doing what they

do. If you want to teach me hand signals, I think that would be really fun. Can I follow you home? For more info, please contact CCBTR at [email protected] or call

252-633-0987. Visit us online at www.ccbtr.org.

SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VIRGINIA

I'm Bogey, a sweet, young male Shar-Pei. I'm a friendly, energetic boy and love to play

ball. I really like snuggling, too. I'll cuddle right up with you if you let me! I am also crate-trained, do well with

baths, and am good at the vet. I am friendly with everyone

and other dogs. I would love a home that has kids, other

dogs, or active adults to play with because I love to have fun with anyone or anything. My foster mom says that I am a sweetheart and that I am one of the sweetest dogs she

has ever met! To learn more about me, see more pictures, or fill out an application, please check out my profile at

www.sharpeirescueofva.org. You can also call 609-494-0020 or email [email protected] for more info.

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

My name is Harlow! I'm a very small girl, only 70

pounds at 14-months-old. I'm a very sweet girl and

love to play with my foster brothers and sisters, all furry ones! I have lived with cats and young kids and did just fine. I'm also deaf but that doesn’t slow me down. My foster is working on sign language with me. I'm not yet crate or house-trained but we are working on

that, too! Since I'm deaf, a fenced yard, as well as another dog living in the home is required. Do you have room for a teacup Dane on your couch? To adopt me, please email

[email protected] or call 704-559-4121.

ECHO DOGS - White German Shepherd Rescue

I am Ollie, an all-around GRRReat gentleman. I am a loving and set-tled boy and I get along with every-one. They say I am reaching my

golden years, but I do not show my age. I still enjoy playing and get along fine with other dogs with a similar energy level. I even enjoy

the company of kitties. I have very good manners, I am house-trained, I’m not at all destructive, and I pre-fer the security and safety of my crate. I am looking for a furever family who will let me enjoy my senior years in a

low-stress environment. I do not think I would do well with high-energy dogs (or kids). To learn more about me, con-

tact Lori at 910-431-6294 or visit www.echodogs.org.

age fool you - I'm the defini-

tion of young at heart! I love to have fun, go on walks and, of

course, cuddle! I think I've got

the best of both worlds: the fun-

loving zest that comes with youth and the easy-going ma-turity that comes with age. I'm waiting patiently for a loving home so please come out and meet me! For driving direc-tions or more information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s
