From The Principal Parents and/or Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are in the month of March already. All students should have made his or her course selections for next year. If you still have ques-tions about scheduling, please see the counselor that is assigned to help your family.

Beginning in March, we are allowing both Juniors and Seniors, who have proper IDs, to have off-campus lunch privileges on approved days. Wednesday has been the traditional day for off-campus lunch, this will continue; but there are weeks where the day may be switched or an additional day added. For the most up to date information on lunches and other things, please remember to visit the announcement section of the Pioneer Web page.

We anticipate the weather to be on a warming trend. Please remind your son and/or daughter about Pioneer’s dress code. Students will be asked to call for appro-priate clothing if they are in violation. It would be a great help if you would partner with us and review our expectations with your child(ren).

At a class meeting, Senior students have been warned about consequences to inappropriate behavior. We expect Seniors to refrain from annual “Senior Pranks”. Participating in “Senior Pranks” will result in senior privileges being denied. Stu-dents can lose privileges that include (not exclusive) being denied off-campus lunch for the remainder of the year, not being allowed to attend Prom or the All Night par-ty, as well as, not being able to walk at graduation. Unfortunately, senior pranks of recent have also included referrals to the police. This is not anything that we as ad-ministrators ever want to do. However, it is a part of our job and students who pull “Senior Pranks” will be given consequences.

Due to the snow day on Feb. 11, NAAPID was cancelled. We are rescheduling

NAAPID for March 12. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to recreate the performance that students saw on Feb. 12 as part of Black History Month. However, we will begin our day with a continental breakfast in the cafeteria annex. Parents are en-couraged to join us and visit their child’s class. We do hope that you will be able to visit us.

We have just shy of four solid weeks of school before Spring Break. It is my hope that it is successful for all of our Pioneer students.

Best,

Cindy Leaman

Principal

ANN ARBOR COLLEGE CAREER FAIR

You may have already had some discussions with your son or daughter about post-high school education and career opportunities. If you haven’t, it’s not too early to begin. To assist you in this task, Ann Arbor Public Schools have sched-uled their 28th annual College & Career Fair at Pioneer High School on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Representatives from colleg-es all over the nation and businesses from the Ann Arbor area will be present to meet with you, answer your questions and provide you with pertinent literature. The colleges will have tables in the cafeteria, which is located near the clock-tower entrance to Pioneer High School, and the businesses will line the hall-ways outside of the cafeteria. This night will provide your family with up-to-date information and enable you to make a person-to-person contact with college and business representatives. We look forward to seeing you there.

Shrek The Musical

Theatre Guild is workshopping a new production of the Broadway musical, SHREK, for Dreamworks and Music Theatre International (MTI) before they release the rights to other high schools and community theatre groups in the United States. The workshop process involves a collaboration between our staff and the creative staff from Dreamworks and MTI in determining ---through the rehearsal and design process---what works and what doesn't. Getting to make a permanent mark on a piece like this is an opportunity about which we are all very excited!

Parents We Need your Help!

Calling ALL Pioneer Parents… The All Senior All Night Party is in need of your help. It takes a village to keep the seniors safe on graduation night and we need to re-energize our planning efforts or we are in jeopardy of this event not taking place next year. Although you may not have a senior this year, your help is needed now with raising money and leadership for the Class of 2013’s event and beyond. There are three ways to help!

Support the Grocery Program: If you shop at Kroger’s please register or re-register your plus card on line at www.krogercommunityrewards.com and en-ter the NPO number of 82622 or select Pioneer. It does take a few extra minutes to register but once you are done just use the plus card and ASAN receives the bene-fits. When you shop, check your receipt, it should say at the bottom “donating Pio-neer High School/ASAN.” If you shop at Busch’s or Hiller’s you can get one of our gift cards at no cost to you. We have rechargeable Busch’s cards, and Hiller cards, while, Meijer shoppers please register online at www.meijer.com/rewards organiza-tion name Pioneer High School, code number: 992136 To receive a rechargeable card in the mail please contact Julie Weintraub, [email protected]

Tax-Deductible Contribution: Please consider a donation to the event either per-sonal or if you own a business. Make checks payable to ASAN and mail to Cathy Stripling 2240 Delaware Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Any questions please contact Cathy Stripling, [email protected]

Volunteer to Lead: We need a Volunteer Chairperson, Decorations Chairperson, Grocery Program Leader, and Casino Leader. Each of these roles has a past leader that is more than ready to train you and support the efforts this year. We need peo-ple willing to share the duties this year and be ready to take on this task for 2014.

All other questions about the ASAN event may be directed to Michelle Potter at, [email protected].

Thank you!
