Bishop Kevin Vann has announced the re-opening of churches for in public Masses begin-ning on Sunday, June 14 for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity which will include the Vigil Mass on the evening of June 13. With the pandemic still very present in our state and country, we will be following strict guidelines to help minimized the risk of infection. • All people wishing to enter the church must
wear a face mask. • Limited number of people at each Mass to
ensure social distance. • Temperature check points. • Controlled public traffic coming in and out to
ensure social distancing. • There will be no singing during the Mass. • There will be no distribution of the Blood of
Christ. • There will be no holding of hands at the Our
Father and the sign of peace. We urgently encourage all who are 65 and older and those who have a compromised immune system not to attend but continue to view our livestream Mass, which we will continue to have. The Bishop continues with the dispensation on the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday and holy days until it is deemed safe to have large gatherings at Mass. Please continue to pray for all who have fallen ill due to this virus, for the people who care for them, for those who have died and their loved ones.
Food Donations Needed Our group of St. Vincent de Paul distributes food bimonthly. Since the beginning of the pan-demic, they have had an increase of families and individuals who have been coming to re-ceive groceries. However, their food pantry is rapidly being depleted. They are in need of non-perishable food and can goods We ask that when you are out getting groceries for your family, you pick up an extra item for donation.
Help us to continue to help others.

June 1st Feast Day of St. Justin Martyr
Justin was born in Flavia Nea-polis, in modern day Israel, around the year 100-114. His parents were pagans and of Greek origin. They were wealthy and able to provide him with a first-class education. This thirst for knowledge led him to apply himself to the study of philosophy. Justin attached himself to one system of philosophy, then another, but none of these were able to completely satisfy his thirst for God. Eventually his search led him to Christianity. Convinced of this as the one true faith, he was baptized and began teach-ing and writing about Christiani-ty.
St. Justin is known as the first Christian philosopher and an “apologist”. An apologist offers a scholarly defense of his be-liefs using reason. In Justin’s
case, he defended in writing the Christian religion against the at-tacks and misunderstandings of many people. As a theologian, Justin studied the mysteries of the Christian faith.
Although many of Justin’s writings have perished, his surviving writ-ings are among the most important that have come down to us from the second century. The principal facts of Justin’s life are gathered from his own written words.
Justin used his great knowledge to explain and defend the faith in his many writings, including The First Apology, The Second Apolo-gy, and Dialogue with Trypho, a Jew. The word Apology, in this context, means a formal, written defense or justification of the faith.
When Rusticus, a Roman prefect (a high official or one whose duty was to act as judge), demanded that Justin and his companions worship the idols; they refused. Because of their refusal, Justin and his companions were forced to trial. At the end of the trial, just before Rusticus sentenced him to death, he asked Justin, “If you are scourged and beheaded, do you believe that you will ascend to heaven?” Justin: I hope for it if I am steadfast in my perseverance. But I know that for those who live in the right way there awaits the divine gift even to the consummation. Rusticus: So you guess this, that you will ascend. Justin: I do not guess, I am completely convinced. Justin and five other martyrs were scourged and beheaded around the year 165.
St. Justin is considered the most important of the second century apologists, and is an outstanding model for lay apostles of today. His chief virtues were strong conviction, honesty, nobility and cour-age, and he is the patron of philosophers, apologists, and lecturers. His life was devoted to the task of harmonizing, the wisdom of the world with those greater riches revealed in the True Faith.
St. Justin Martyr, pray for us.
THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT
Students, and most adults recalling their school days, are familiar with the phrase “compare and contrast” that shows up from time to time on tests. Today we hear two different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the church. Let’s con-trast, then compare. Luke’s account from Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of dif-ferent languages. John’s account seems timid: fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expel-ling of breath from his risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy culture probably makes us prefer the former. But if we compare the two, we find that the dazzling richness of the Spirit fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ, ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to his disciples in John and sends his followers forth to carry on his mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty acts of God. Spiritual communion
The Holy Father invites all those watching or listening to the liturgy of the Mass to make a spiritual communion. He uses the prayer composed by St. Alphonsus di Liguori:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if you were already there, and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Food Distribution Our St. Vincent DePaul volunteers give out food on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the back parking lot.
Our next dates are June 13 and 27
This is drive-through distribution of pre-packaged food.
PENTECOST Unless the eye catch fire,
God will not be seen. Unless the ear catch fire, God will not be heard.
Unless the tongue catch fire, God will not be named.
Unless the heart catch fire, God will not be loved.
Unless the mind catch fire, God will not be known.
—William Blake
Our parish priests were outside giving blessings on Sunday, May 24, for the Ascension of the Lord. We will have a Pentecost Bless-ing asking the Holy Spirit to en-kindle our hearts and strengthen us during this difficult time.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY, HEALTH OF THE SICK DURING THE CORONA-
VIRUS PANDEMIC
O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, united with Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this mo-ment of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our suffering upon Him-self, and burdened Himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of Resurrection. Amen.
We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas — we who are put to the test — and deliver us from every danger. O glorious and blessed Virgin. —Pope Francis, March 11, 2020 © Libreria Editrice Vaticana

Aleluya
no podrá ver a Dios.
no podrá conocer a Dios. —William Blake
