After a mapping of the

current 6,500 covered bus stops,

the consortium presented a

project designed to meet the

characteristics of the municipality

as well as the population’s needs.

The company will be responsible

for maintaining the existing

covered bus stops 30 days after

signing the contract, and the

installation of the new covered

quarry, part of the Odebrecht

Angola Structuring Highways

Project. After touring the areas,

the minister congratulated the

we are making these verifications

locally,” he said.

The visit is part of the strategy

defined by the sector to resolve the

problem of exploring inert minerals

in Luanda and in the other provinces.

The strategy involves first raising the

operators’ awareness as to the need

to comply with laws and orienting

competent bodies to be fulfilled

payment of exploitation rates.

During the visit, Francisco

Queiroz explained that the goal is

to complete the first phase. “Cabo

Ledo is a good example that we

would like to see followed,” said

Queiroz. “At the quarry, they follow

the administrative laws, safety-

related rules and environmental

and police orientations,” he said.

According to Queiroz, the Ministry

of Geology and Mines will start

requiring stricter compliance

with the laws, fulfillment of public

order and peace requirements,

compliance with environmental

rules and that workplace safety

become a constant.

The minister further declared

that the institution will work with

multi-disciplinary teams made up of

the Minister of Geology and Mines,

Minister of Defense, Minister of the

Environment, Minister of the Interior

and local authorities. “The second

phase of the strategy will be focused

The Santo Antônio

Hydroelectric Power Plant, an

Odebrecht Energia investment,

began the commissioning

of the Generation Units,

hydromechanical equipment

and auxiliary mechanical and

electrical systems. The purpose is

to conduct tests to verify whether

the technical specifications and

equipment have an adequate

performance and are apt to begin

the commercial operation. The

work is developed by Odebrecht

Infraestrutura. One of the challenges is to

complete the commissioning

of the Generation Units

under the “Generation Island”

concept. At the conventional

hydroelectric plants, there is an

elevator transformer for each

generation unit, which allows

for independent work. At Santo

Antônio, four Generation Units

are connected to a single elevator

transformer, forming a Generation

Island – a fact that makes the

process more complex.

According to Luiz Fernando

Fernandes, Technical Manager

of the Construtor Santo Antônio

Consortium (CCSA), because it

is an unprecedented activity at

the company, the first challenge

was the formation of the teams:

“We had the opportunity to

develop the first team focused

solid commissioning work. “We

worked with an unprecedented

schedule that establishes

the delivery of up to two

he said. “We are setting records

in civil construction work and

assembly and commission

work. The perfect synchrony of

Carlos Benvenutti,

helps save resources and time, as

well as representing an excellent

There are currently seven

the commissioning came to be

The evening of November 29

was marked by achievement for

clients, associates, partners and the

team of Odebrecht Realizações

Imobiliárias (OR) in Rio de Janeiro

– that of making a dream come

true: the delivery of the Dimension

Office & Park business complex one

month ahead of time.

The development was

launched in December 2009 in

partnership with the companies

Mar Incorporações, Performance

Empreendimentos Imobiliários

and SIG Engenharia, and has

already been 100% sold. It is the

first contract signed by OR to be

delivered in Rio de Janeiro, which

marks the company’s history and

consolidated presence in the city.

“Together with our associates,

it gives me pleasure to say how

gratifying it is to deliver Dimension

ahead of schedule,” said Antonio

Dimension Delivered Ahead of Schedule Pessoa, Regional Director, upon

delivering the development. “The

sensation is much greater that simply

that of a ‘duty fulfilled.’ It is the certainty

that we helped change the method of

those who will work here,” said Pessoa.

Winner of the title of Master Real

Estate in the Large Commercial

Development category – Rio de

Janeiro Association of Real Estate

Market Directors (ADEMI) Award

in 2010, Dimension Office & Park

is the located at No. 1 of one of Rio

de Janeiro’s avenues with the most

development, called Embaixador

Abelardo Bueno, located in the

Olympic region of the neighborhood

of Barra da Tijuca. Its architecture

is considered bold, marked by

functionality, a unique landscaping

project and the 26-meter high gate.

According to Antonio Pessoa,

Dimension was designed through

the search for a dream. “We

wanted to build in Rio de Janeiro a

development that could mirror the

major transformations that the city is

experiencing,” said Pessoa. “We wanted

it to be a development that could

leave a mark and which represented

the change the locals were living, a

new “Dimension” for Rio de Janeiro,” he

said.

In 2008, the year in which it resumed

its activities in Mozambique, Odebrecht

faced a challenging scenario when it came

to identifying local Members. Nearly 20

years after the civil war, the country began

a process of accelerated growth and major

investments, which in turn increased the

demand for qualified labor. In the country,

less than 20% of the population had

completed high school and the illiteracy rate

among adults was as high as 60%.

It was within this scenario that Odebrecht

assumed the commitment to integrate

Mozambique workers with the Organization’s

entrepreneurial culture. The Nacala

International Airport Project adapted the

teaching methodology of the Continued

Professional Qualification Program - Believe

to the characteristics of Mozambique – also

followed by the Moatize Expansion Project in

partnership with Vale.

More than 1,300 people have already

completed the basic module, which

covers the topics of health, workplace

safety, environment, quality and work

psychology, and 400 were certified in

the specific module in activities related

to civil construction. Believe earned

distinction in the communities located

nearby the Odebrecht project and

caught the attention of the Mozambique

Government, which resulted in the signing

of a Memorandum of Understanding

between the Ministry of Labor and the

methodology are being shared so as to expand

the results and guarantee the sustainability of the

Believe program in the country.

On November 29, the Moatize Expansion

Project – developed by Odebrecht for Vale – held

the ceremony to deliver the certificates to the

second group of bricklayers and carpenters who

received training under Tete Mozambique Believe,

the continued professional qualification program.

The event, held at the National Job and

Professional Training Institute (INEFP), included

the participation of the Tete Province Governor,

Rashid Abdul Gogo, the Province Director of

Labor, Dr. Elsa Xavier da Barca, the National

Director of INEFP, Eduardo Chimela, as well as

other authorities.

Governor Rashid Abdul Gogo declared that

Believe promotes the training, qualification and

employability of the Mozambique people. “It’s

necessary to trust the training that was offered

to them,” said Gogo. “This is an initial and crucial

step for your personal and professional growth

and for Mozambique’s progress. Let’s multiply

the spirit of knowledge, of doing, of being and

of coexisting, with a focus on the country’s social

and economic development,” he emphasized in

his speech.

On the occasion, Contract Director Paulo

Brito, and Director Elsa Xavier da Barca signed

the Memorandum of Understanding between

the Tete Province Government and Odebrecht.

Before the ceremony, Rashid Abdul Gogo and his

group visited the Believe program stand set up at

the site and had the chance to learn more about

the program.

Professional Qualification Program - Believe.

The initiative is being offered in partnership

with the Construction Industry Social

Service (SECONCI), the National Industrial

Department of Labor and Employment

(SMTE).

Present at the opening ceremony,

the Executive Manager of SESI/SENAI in

Jacarepaguá, Marcelo Gomes Gonçalves,

spoke to the students about the program’s

importance: “The civil construction sector

is the growing market that is driving Brazil,”

said Gonçalves. “Carvalho Hosken and

Odebrecht Realizações are giving you all

the opportunity to grow together with this

market.”

Until the end of the construction work,

set for December 2015, additional new

groups will be opened, including for the

courses of carpenter, electrician, assembler,

welder, plumber and bricklayer, for a total

of 2,000 people benefited. Those who

complete the course may be hired to work

on the construction of the Athletes’ Village,

which includes 31 17-story buildings and

a total of 3,600 units with the capacity to

accommodate 17,700 people.

From November 12-16, the Metropolitan

5 Consortium (formed by Odebrecht

Infraestrutura, Queiroz Galvão and OAS) –

responsible for building Lot 7 of the São Paulo

Subway Line 5 – undertook its first Internal Work

Accident Prevention Week (SIPAT).

Topics associated with quality of life,

occupational medicine, environment and

accident prevention were addressed in the

lectures by Dr. Aílton Gomes, the consortium’s

Occupational Physician, Engineer Antonio

Pereira, Tax Auditor Fiscal for the São Paulo State

Regional Labor Department, and Psychologist

Vera Moraes. The high point was the presentation

of four theater plays that, in a creative and

good humored way, were able to transmit the

prevention concepts proposed by the SIPAT. At

the end of each event, there was a drawing for

prizes among the Members.

All of the Members were involved in the

activities, beginning with the choice of the SIPAT

motto through a phrase contest. The winning

one was: “I wear the jersey of the world’s best

team: CM5 Prevention,” written by Jane Aquino,

the Laboratory Supervisor at the construction

project, who won a bicycle as a prize. The phrase

was used on the event publicity banners and

printed on the shirts distributed to the workers.

With approximately 4,500 Members, Foz do

Brasil has the challenge of developing more

and better leaders, preparing them to lead

the complete entrepreneurial task cycle, with

an emphasis on the development of specific

Environmental Business competencies. This is the

goal of the Foz Entrepreneurship Program (PE Foz),

currently in its 2nd edition and which has already

trained 40 Members. The initiative also contributes

toward advancing the practice of Odebrecht

Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO) through a

sharing of the experiences lived by the different

business spheres and generations.

The target public includes the Operation

Directors and potential leaders, both in the

Line as well as in the Dynamic Organization,

which will assume the full entrepreneurship

of the small company over the short and

medium terms. “In addition to the different

topics and areas addressed focused on the

characteristics intrinsic to the Environmental

Business, we reinforce the development of

technical competencies for performance in

Investment Project Management: the analysis of

investments, sources of financing, governance,

contractual administration, risk management,

tax optimization, image and representation,”

explained Renata Mendonça, from the People

and Organization team, responsible for Planning

and Coordination at PE Foz.

In 2012, PE gathered 15 Members that were

divided into three modules to also learn more

about Foz’ vision and strategy through a dialogue

with Entrepreneurial Leader, Fernando Reis, as well

about the expectations of the FI-FGTS investment

fund shareholders.

On November 12, the Odebrecht Shared

Service Center (SSC) held the 1st Meeting of the

FAMs and PRs (Administrative-Financial Managers

and Professionals Responsible for the Program),

which included the presence of 32 participants

– users of the construction projects and offices

supported by the SSC. The event was designed to

bring the teams together and present improvement

solutions involving the different areas. The meeting began with a general presentation

of the SSC. Leaders and coordinators presented

the step-by-step details of their processes. On the

occasion, there was also participation by Luciano

Cruz, responsible for Finances and for the SSC, as

well as Dilson Zanatta Filho, Team Leader. “With

four years of existence, the SSC has assumed a solid

model,” said Filho. “The focus is the continuous

improvement of the support services offered, and

with a healthy partnership with our users, we will

be able to identify the priorities and how we can

achieve these,” he said.

For Otto de Faria Mendes, FAM of the D. Pedro

I Corridor Consortium, the meeting allowed users

to learn more about each area and its different

activities. “We were able to get an inside look at

the SSC structure and the people involved with

the process,” said Mendes. Claudio Villaça, the

professional responsible for the OLEX and COI

Finances, praised the initiative that, according

to him, strengthened the relationship and

facilitated understanding of the SSC routine:

“In addition to promoting interaction with

the Members from other Businesses, the

event gave us the opportunity to identify and

maximize processes within our own Business,”

said Villaça.

The participants also went on a guided tour of

the SSC, learned more about the sectors and spoke

with Members. “The meeting was an excellent

moment for us to ask our questions and eliminate

any possible fears,” said Carlos André da Silva,

Financial PR of the Corinthians Arena.

On November 12, the

Braskem PVC 1 BA unit, located

in Camaçari, Bahia, reached the

record of 10 years without time

loss accidents.

Over a decade, the unit

performed five general

shutdowns, in addition to major

and routine investments with

over 16 million man/hours

worked without any incidents

that lead to time loss, both for

Members as well as third parties.

“A record like this one is only

possible due to the high level

of commitment of those at the

PVC 1 BA unit when it comes to

the issues of Health, Safety and

Environment,” said Isabel Kenny,

SHE Manager. “I see a fantastic

evolution in people’s posture, in

terms of their care when making

decisions that may involve risks

as well as increased discipline in

terms of meeting standards and

procedures,” said Kenny.

Many internal actions were

crucial in terms of achieving

the result, including the

implementation of the LOTO

procedure, which blocks negative

energies and allows for safe

interventions at the plant. The

In order to guarantee the

safety of its Members, Saneatins,

controlled by Foz do Brasil,

began replacing its fleet of

motorcycles for cars throughout

the entire state of Tocantins

in November. Initially, 141

motorcycles used by the light

plumbing team were replaced by

100 new cars. The 27 remaining

motorcycles will be replaced by

the end of 2012.

The initiative is part of the

company’s campaign to reduce

work-related traffic accidents.

“Health and safety are values for

Saneatins,” explained Wagner

Ferreira, the professional

responsible for Sustainability.

“The replacement of the

motorcycles for cars raises the

safety standard for Members,

who also see our concern with

their integrity and become even

more engaged when it comes

to preventing accidents,” said

Ferreira. He explained that the

traffic accident rate in 2012 has

already been reduced by 25%

compared to 2011. For 2013, the

goal is to cut this number in half.

Plumber Darley da Silva said

he liked the replacement: “We can

work with more peace of mind

and we are protected from the

rain and sun,” he said. Silva states

that every day, before beginning

the work shift, the teams

complete a Daily Safety Dialogue.

The Startup of Aquapolo Ambiental

November

29 marked the

inauguration of

the Southern

Hemisphere’s

largest project

focused on the

supply of reuse water for

industrial purposes. The

company Aquapolo Ambiental

began operating on October

24, when for the first time, it

made the resource available

to Braskem, its main client.

With the presence of the

São Paulo State Secretary

of Sanitation and Water

Resources, Edison Giriboni;

President of SABESP (São

Paulo State Basic Sanitation

Company), Dilma Pena;

Foz do Brasil São Paulo

Regional Director, Guilherme

Paschoal; and the Vice

President of Braskem

Basic Petrochemicals, Rui

Chamas, the event provided

examples of complementary

operations in the sanitation

sector involving public and

private companies, as well

as transversal operations

between the different

Odebrecht Organization

businesses.

Built by Odebrecht

Infraestrutura and operated

by Foz do Brasil in partnership

with SABESP, and with

Braskem as its main client,

Aquapolo represents a

sustainable, innovative and

effective alternative since its

uses the treated sewage as a

raw material. The water that

originates from the sewage

is not highly explored and

this proves beneficial to the

industry, which does not need

drinking water for many of its

processes.

The new company has

the capacity to produce up

to 1,000 liters per second of

reuse water, supplying the

Capuava Petrochemical Center

in Mauá, in the Metropolitan

Region of São Paulo. With

investments of R$ 364 million,

it includes a reuse water

production plant for industrial

purpose, a water main that

extends 17 km and 3.6 km of

distribution networks.

“Guaranteeing water for

industrial purposes through

reuse is how Aquapolo

contributes directly toward

generating jobs for the

region,” said Edison Giriboni

during his speech. Dilma Pena

pointed out the partnership of

the public and private sectors

to promote the country’s

development: “It’s necessary

to always seek out alternatives

to guarantee the supply of

water for human consumption

and also for economic

development, customizing

products, such as reuse water,”

said Pena.

strategy in the sanitation

sector, and is focused on

services: “Aquapolo precisely

puts into practice the model

that promotes synergy

between the government

and private initiative

authorities,” said Paschoal.

He further explained that the

partnerships have produced

increasingly more efficient

services, while helping resolve

problems and promoting the

development of pioneering

and innovative projects.

Rui Chamas pointed out the

importance of sustainability

for Braskem. “The inauguration

of Aquapolo is yet another

example of how the company

has focused its actions and

projects on sustainability,

seeking entrepreneurial

initiatives that offer

benefits for society and the

environment,” said Chamas.

During its implementation,

the project considered the

importance of saving water

resources from the Greater

São Paulo Area to supply

the population and reduce

the scarcity of water for

industrial use. “Aquapolo

aims to resolve the scarcity

of water for industrial use in

the region,” explained Fabiano

Munhoz, Contract Director

at Odebrecht Infraestrutura.

“The volume of drinking water

that will cease from being

consumed by the center is

enough to supply a city of

500,000 inhabitants,” said

Munhoz.

The project will also

contribute toward improving

the job market in the

Greater ABC Area. The offer

of high quality reuse water,

made especially for the

industries, reduces costs

and increases the useful life

The inauguration included the presence of the São Paulo State Secretary of Sanitation and Water Resources, Edison Giriboni; President of SABESP, Dilma Pena; São Paulo Regional Director of Foz do Brasil, Guilherme Paschoal; and the Vice President of Basic Petrochemicals at Braskem, Rui Chamas

of the equipment, which

guarantees the factories’

permanence in the region and

allows for the expansion of

its plants and the contracting

of new professionals. The

petrochemical center

currently generates more than

25,000 job opportunities.

REUSE WATER

Industrial reuse water

is produced from treated

sewage. The effluent, which

would be returned to nature

within the conditions required

by legislation, undergoes

a new treatment using

state-of-the-art technology

that includes ultrafiltration

membranes and reverse

osmosis.

The implementation of the

project was made possible

by Braskem, which will

consume 65% of Aquapolo’s

capacity – equivalent to 650

liters per second –, and the

supply for the industry is

guaranteed for 41 years. With

the inauguration, the reuse

water – produced through

the treatment of sewage at

the ABC Sewage Treatment

Plant, will serve at least 10

industries from the Capuava

Petrochemical Center.

For Fabiano Munhoz,

the processes will be more

efficient because they will

reduce preventive and

corrective maintenance in the

systems that use water. “This

will boost the productivity of

the companies that can even

expand their installations,

given that such expansion was

limited due to a lack of high

quality water,” said Munhoz.

produce the resource was built

Even before the start of

the its operations, Aquapolo

Ambiental had already earned

international distinction. In

April 2011, the project earned

second place in the Global

Water Awards, an award

that highlights innovative

initiatives in supply and

sanitation. The winner was

selected from 40 works

from all over the world by

executives from different

countries that work in the

segment and representatives

from entities from the sector.

On December 5, 2012,

Aquapolo won the National

Water Agency Award (ANA) in

the Company category during

an event held in Brasília. The

award is the most important

national distinction for projects

that help combat pollution

and waste and which indicate

The 8th winning edition of

the Odebrecht Historical

Portugal and the Low

author Daniel Strum, was

presented first-hand to a

select public of a few more

than 300 guests. The project

was selected in 2009 after it

competed with another 99

works.

From the 16th century

to the start of the 17th

century, Brazil became

the main global producer

of sugar, the most highly

desired commodity of that

period. The importance and

recognition of the product’s

contribution toward the

country’s development

were studied extensively,

but part of this history still

needs to be explored in

further depth. Daniel Strum

describes for the general

public how the international

sale of this product worked,

as well as its complex system

of exchanges that laid the

foundations for international

bartering and inaugurated

the economic, legal and

financial procedures that are

still practiced even today.

The project, which

includes 467 pages,

explores the intricacies and

overlapping factors that

guaranteed the export of

sugar to Portugal, and from

there, its re-export to other

regions, primarily the Low

Countries.

The author – who has a

Master’s and Doctorate in

History from the Hebraic

University of Jerusalem –

delved into a vast archive

of notary, accounting,

inquisitorial and government

documents that revealed

how, despite being faced

with so many unknowns

and uncertainties, it was

possible during that period

to purchase and receive

shipments of sugar produced

in a remote place, as Brazil

was characterized, and then

transported over the Atlantic

Ocean, home to adventurers

and pirates. It was a truly

multi-dimensional trade

that crossed national

and imperial borders and

united merchants’ circuits

that included Catholics,

Protestants and Jews.

The book describes

how the export of sugar

constituted the main source

of wealth for the colony

and gave the Portuguese-

Brazilian population

access to the necessary

and so highly-coveted

European products. The

sugar trade also brought,

if not necessary income,

at least prosperity to

the Atlantic Islands and

Portugal, notably the North

of the Kingdom, while it

weakened the vitality of

the Dutch economy. The

book, which includes a

relevant iconographic

archive, gathers a selection

of 400 images that

originated from more than

120 different institutions

and private collections

from 18 countries, such as

Spain, Germany, Israel and

Portugal.

According to

Márcio Polidoro, the

professional responsible

for Communication at

Odebrecht, the award is the

Organization’s contribution

toward the preservation

of Brazilian history. “It is

a responsibility that the

company assumes as it

attempts to contribute

toward a greater

understanding of our past,”

said Polidoro. “It is work that

is designed to enrich the

archive of works published

with Odebrecht’s support,

which already total more

than 200 titles,” he said. “The

publication was developed

with the best possible

information that could be

offered to the historian,

from the content research

the sponsorship of Saneatins,

State Government and other

partners.

During the opening ceremony,

representatives from Saneatins,

authorities, leaders from the non-

the Tocantins urban population

with treated water,” said Amaro.

“Besides modernizing and

expanding this operation, we have

the bold objective, together with

the city and state governments, to

transform Tocantins into the first

state to also universalize sewage

collection and treatment,” he said.

Coming from music schools

and social inclusion initiatives

promoted in several different

Brazilian states, 21 youth ages

16 to 26 were selected to make

up the first touring group of the

Young Concert Artist Academy,

a project created by pianist

Simone Leitão and supported by

Odebrecht Energia with aims

of promoting the development

of young musicians’ careers by

giving them experience in a group

orchestra.

Under the artistic direction of

the pianist and musical direction

of violinist Daniel Guedes, the

Young Concert Artist Academy

made its debut on October

31 with a performance at the

Tom Jobim Space in Rio de

Janeiro. After that, the musicians

continued on a tour through

an additional six Brazilian cities:

Salvador (Bahia), Natal (Rio Grande

do Norte), Porto Velho (Rondônia),

Paranaíta (Mato Grosso), Recife

(Pernambuco) and Rio Grande

(Rio Grande do Sul). In the visited

cities, the group gave educational

chamber concerts in alternative

spaces, such as public schools,

hospitals and prisons.

The money collected with the

sale of the tickets for the Rio de

Janeiro concert will be directed

at the purchase of accessories

for the instruments belonging

to the members of the group

themselves. The youth also

received financial assistance,

as well as the airline ticket,

accommodations and rehearsals

paid for by the project.

of the musician’s profession

during this new moment being

she said. “According to Leitão, the

project is called Academy because

there is artistic and psychological

on the youths’ performance. The

group gathers musicians from

eight states who came from

both large and rural cities. “We

want to show what Brazil is truly

like, but the predominant factor

was always the excellence of the

musicians and seriousness with

which they handle the profession,”

she said.

Daniel Guedes added: “The

is a challenging project that will

provide an opportunity for those

who represent the future of music

in our country to perform in a

young and versatile orchestra,

bringing the music of our main

composers and the great names

in classical music to different parts

of Brazil.”

Presenting the result of more than 3,000

Blumenau students was the goal of the Cultural

Exhibit called “Sustainability and Ecology in

Theater, Music and Poetry,” promoted by Foz do

Brasil on November 22. The works are part of

the Treat Well at the Schools Project, developed

by the company at public and private schools

located near the construction project.

During the last half of 2012, the program

participants developed different actions related

to topics associated with sustainability and the

environment. The event involved the presence

of students from 27 schools, who presented

theater plays, music and poetry.

The proposal of Treat Well at the Schools is

to offer the public and private school system in

Blumenau information about basic municipal

sanitation. A total of 35 school units and

3,500 students are involved. The program

also includes the training of the teachers so

that they may play the role of transmitting

knowledge and transforming students into

multiplying agents among their families and

community.
