PENTECOST SUNDAY

A Significant Day

“And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were” (Acts 2:2). The Holy Spirit’s arrival on that first Pentecost was signaled by a rush of wind. We all know what it’s like when our windows are open just as a summer storm rises up. Curtains fly, papers become airborne, house plants shudder, dust is scattered. A rush of wind disrupts the orderliness of our home.

The coming of the Holy Spirit, as celebrated each year at Pentecost, can also disrupt ways that have become comfortable and orderly. The Church always needs Pentecost. We need the breath of God’s Spirit to blow away any complacency or malaise that has settled into our faith. Jesus breathes on his disciples and they receive the Holy Spirit. With that reception comes the power to share the Good News of salvation. Today, this is no less true for us.

Although it will not technically be the “last” Mass he celebrates at Notre Dame, our 12:15pm Mass on Sunday, June 14, 2015 has been designated as a celebration of Father Jude’s farewell to our parish family, and our loving farewell to him. Please join us as we gather round the Eucharistic table with one who has served us so unselfishly, wisely, and with such love these past 18 years. A light reception in the Parish Hall will follow the Mass.

GUATEMALA OUTREACH 2015 Building 8 Homes this August!

With our parish support and jointly with the From Houses to Homes organization, 25 disciples from our parish spent a week in Guatemala last August and built 4 homes for 4 very deserving families in one of the poorest areas in Guatemala. This year, we will be sending 40 disciples in a span of two weeks in August to build 8 homes! What an amazing blessing!

Can you help? The cost per volunteer is approximately $1,100 and includes a $500 donation per volunteer to FHTH, to help cover the cost of building materials for the homes. If you would like to make a donation to support our 2015 Guatemala Outreach Mission, please send your donation (check made out to Notre Dame of Mt. Join our parish family at this year's Hanover Twp. Memorial Day celebration, Monday, May 25, 2015, whether marching in the parade or offering support from spectator sidelines! The lineup begins at 9am on E. Fairchild Place, and the parade starts promptly at

9:30am. Markers will be on E. Fairchild indicating our place in the line. The march ends at American Legion (13 Legion Place), where a ceremony will take place with refreshments following. Join us on this march to honor our veterans and fallen heroes! Transportation will be available back to Whippany Park High School at the end of the parade. Please note that as we follow our Summer Mass Schedule, Monday, June 1, 2015 through (and including) Monday, September 7, 2015, there will be no 5pm weekday Mass,

only the 12:10pm Mass, Monday - Saturday. The weekend Mass schedule remains the same: Vigil Mass on Saturday at 5pm and Sunday Masses at 7:30am, 9am, 10:30am and 12:15pm. Our regular Mass schedule will resume Tuesday, September 8, 2015.

The workshop will be presented by parishioner & licensed psychologist Dr. Christina Liparini. The workshop will cover:

Challenging negative thoughts; practicing new ways to reduce physical and emotional symptoms through relaxation methods (including meditation and prayer).

Fertility-enhancing lifestyle behaviors.

New ways to nurture self-care and self-compassion.

DEPARTMENT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (DPD) GOLF CLASSIC

Support the Department for Persons with Disabilities, a Catholic Charities agency in the Diocese of Paterson. DPD provides a high level of care for adults with developmental disabilities. On June 22nd, they will be holding their annual Wiegand Farm Golf Classic and you do not have to be a golfer to participate. Here is how you can get involved:

Golf in the event: At the Bowling Green Golf Club or Berkshire Valley Golf Course in Oak Ridge. $145 includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and 18 holes of golf.

Participate in the MEGA 50/50: Tickets are being sold for $10 each or a book of 6 for $50. Last year's winner took home $10,000!

Donate a Silent Auction Item: DPD is in need of gift certificates, sporting event tickets, memorabilia, vacation packages, or whatever else you can offer!

This special seminar will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, 9am-12pm, here at Notre Dame, upstairs in Rm. 201. The seminar will be facilitated by Debra Koss, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who will present Strategies for Building Resiliency and Self-Advocacy: Giving Youth a Voice in Treatment and Recovery. The seminar will include a professional panel discussion of mental health resources for children and adolescents, as well as breakout sessions for parents and educators.

Who should attend? Parents of children and adolescents with diagnosed mental illness, history of substance abuse, suspicion of substance abuse or symptoms of depression, etc.; Educators (Professional Development Certificate), mental health professionals; Anyone who has contact with children with mental/behavioral issues.
