Principal’s News Hello Everyone,
Another busy week at school, characterised by and large, by learning environments
that are challenging our students. It is imperative that we maintain high
expectations of our learners, and I have seen plenty of evidence of that happening
across the school. Keep up the great work everyone!
MNSEC Showcase- Well done to our musicians, Bryce, Nick, Kayla and Pippa with
their standout performances at the MNSEC Showcase last week. Thank you to Mr
Edgcumbe for providing this opportunity for our students to shine amongst their
peers.
PAT Testing- Progressive Achievement Tests are used by all sites across SA.
Students are tested to demonstrate their proficiency in Reading and Maths. Our
students will also sit the Grammar and Punctuation test next term, because of its
direct link to our site priority, Writing. The tests are done online, and staff are able
to extract very useful data to inform learning design that will not only support
individual student needs, but also year level groups. As PAT testing is done annually
it is an accurate means by which we can see trends and trajectories in student
achievement, which is another feedback opportunity to measure the impact of our
teaching-learning. The leadership team is currently considering the most effective
way in which this information can be shared with parents.
SAPSASA soccer carnival- Congratulations to Danielle Heaslip who participated
recently in the SAPSASA Soccer Carnival in Adelaide. Not only is being selected for a
representative team a special honour, but the experience of playing at the elite
level is very special to any individual.
Parent-Teacher Interviews- Most parents of the primary and junior primary
students were able to meet this week. If you weren’t able to meet with your child’s
teacher on this occasion, but would still like to do so, please don’t hesitate to
contact the teacher and negotiate a mutually agreeable time.
Fast 5 Netball Carnival- Looks like the Booleroo teams have done especially well at
the Netball Carnival held in Jamestown this week, both teams going head-to-head
in the Final. Well done to everybody involved.
SRC Cross Country Colour Cup- There’s been a fair bit of excitement and build-up
for the Colour run, but today’s weather conditions threw a spanner in the works.
Hence, we have re-scheduled the Colour Run for next Friday, the last day of term,
between recess and lunch.
Share the Positives:
Ag excursion to Russell Zwar’s farm.
In the meantime, Mr Nicholls is conducting cross country trials in preparation for the upcoming Shield event.
Student Free Day- Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Friday 20th September, is a SFD. It is a rare occasion
when all staff from across the Flinders Partnership of schools can be brought together to work collaboratively on
moderating student work samples to achieve consistency with the expectations we have of our learners. It also
helps teachers re-calibrate their own expectations they have of themselves. I apologise for any short-term
inconvenience that a SFD causes, but hopefully the long-term impact will make it all worthwhile.
Shearing course– Three of our students will be joined by students from across the district who have enrolled to do a
5-day Cert 2 Shearing and Cert 2 Wool Handling course, to be held on our premises. Thank you to Mrs Kupke for co-
ordinating things to make it all happen.
Yr 10 Field trip- I had the pleasure of tagging along with Mr Geddes and his Yr 10
Ag students to Russell and Davina Zwar’s farm at Wongyarra. Russell gave a
thorough overview about controlled-traffic practices that he uses in his farming
enterprise. Mr Geddes made some good links to school-based learning and the
students were highly engaged. It made me realise that farming relies upon many
disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, to name a few) and requires
a lot of precision. Thank you for your outstanding coverage Russell.
School Closure Day- Don’t forget the School Closure Day next Tuesday 24th September. Most people will be using
the day to attend the first day of the Paskeville Field Days.
Transitions- I am aware that staff have been working on the plans for Transitions, which will not only involve the
Kindy students who will be our next year’s Reception students, but the Yr 7s from Melrose & Wilmington who I look
forward to welcoming on board.
K-Yr 6 Concert- There’s been a happy and healthy buzz about the place as students in the primary section have been
preparing for the Concert planned for the first week back from the holidays. Definitely something to look forward
to.
All the very best this week,
Peter
Kindy News
What a busy week we have had! On Monday we had a visit from the dentist. We spoke about how to clean our teeth and what are the best foods to eat to have healthy teeth and which foods are 'sometimes' food. We also learnt that the best thing to drink is water! After lunch we went to the Steam and Traction shed to see to old tractors that have been travelling around our area. The owners were very kind and let us sit on the tractors. We also watched different ways to start the old machines.
On Tuesday we joined with the Junior School for our first practise of a song for concert. We will be practising the actions from now on. On our way to the library we heard some music. We watched Mr Edgcumbe and the band playing one of their songs. At the library we read a book and borrowed some books about Brazil. We have also been making maracas out of recycled drink bottles for the concert.
Thursday morning we found a bearded dragon. We noticed lots of things about the lizard. We let him go where we
found him. Kindy and Rural Care Staff
Primary School News
Our primary production of ‘Postcards’ is starting to take shape and each class is busy rehearsing their scenes in preparation for our performance which will be held on Wednesday Week 1 Term 4.
Bayley D, Matilda VDW, Shayla A, Eve SD and Scarlett J represented BCDS in Adelaide on Monday, singing at the Festival Theatre in a choir of almost 500; a once in a lifetime experience. The girls have reported it was fantastic and they enjoyed the professionalism of the troupe on the night.
Thank you to all parents and students that attended interviews this week,
we appreciate your time to talk about your children’s progress. If you
were unable to make an interview with your child’s teacher, please contact them directly to arrange a time.

Site Open - Modified Education Program – [Thurs. 26/9/2019]
Dear Families
I am writing to inform you that Booleroo Centre District School will be open but providing a modified education
program for the last hour of the school day on 26/9/2019 due to a vote for industrial action by members of the
Australian Education Union at this site.
The Education Director has approved the provision of
a modified program on the grounds that there will be
sufficient staff on duty to enable me as Principal to
ensure that adequate standards of children/student
safety and welfare can be provided.
Families can leave their children at the site as normal.
Modified education programs will be provided to
students for the last hour of the school day. This
means that groups of students will be supervised but
regular classes will not take place.
Normal education programs will resume on Friday 27th
September, 2019.
Please contact the school if you have any questions
regarding this information.

MNSEC Showcase 2019 was on Thursday the 12th of September at Orroroo Town Hall, featuring musical acts
from across the range of MNSEC schools. Booleroo Centre District School was represented by Year 8 and 9 students Bryce Winen, Nick Hudson, Kayla Linke and Pippa Roberts. The students did an outstanding job of representing themselves and the school in terms of their professionalism throughout the day during sound check, afternoon rehearsals and their combined and individual performances. The many hours spent rehearsing at home and at school, the music lessons with Mr O’Dea, Mrs Carpenter and Mr Edgcumbe and all those impromptu performances in front of friends and family came to the fore when the students hit the stage and more than rose to the occasion.
Throughout the night the performances from students from BCDS stood out; this was evidenced by the resounding applause that followed the performances. ‘WOW!’ was the response of a gentleman standing next to me (unaware that I was their teacher) on hearing Nick Hudson’s and Bryce Winen’s Guitar recital of Santana’s Puts Your Light’s On. All the performances stood out in terms of strength and musicianship. Currently, the students and I are receiving considerable positive feedback; thank you for that. It is important to note that it is your encouragement at home and the investment in music education that supports the kids in their success. A big thanks needs to also go out to the chief organisers of MNSEC Showcase Orroroo Area School teachers Michael Custance and Sarah Hazel.
