PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGEKindergarten 2017 Meet and Greet afternoon for parents and students

Claim the date: 3 to 4 pm Wednesday 7th September 2016. Write this on your yellow calendar.

We are commencing this term with a “Meet and Greet” afternoon at school. We are inviting all current kindergarten parents to join us on this day and help welcome the 2017 kindergarten parents and students for a casual play, afternoon tea and a chat down near the equipment and sandpit. Current kindergarten parents we are seeking your assistance with this greeting afternoon and hoping you can join us in welcoming and sharing your experiences with new parents for 2017. Could you please let your classroom teacher know if you are able to join us for this afternoon?

This will be followed by an Information evening on Thursday 15th September in the library.

Term Four will see the commencement of our transition to school program with six morning visits from 9.30am to 11.00am each Thursday starting on the 20th October 2016.

Mathematics Information Night

Congratulations and thank you very much too all teachers who stayed on Tuesday evening to share their knowledge of Maths through demonstrating different games and strategies to parents. Your time and commitment is truly valued. A special thanks to the 31 parents who came along and supported the evening, the positive feedback and engagement level was exciting to see. Your commitment and dedication towards assisting your child at home is truly valued and will enable you to better assist and support your child with their learning. This was a great evening to build on collaborative partnerships between school and home and enhance positive relationships between parents and teachers.

Kooringal High School Music Performance

Last Friday we had the students from Kooringal High come down and share their many musical talents with students from Years 2-6. Yes we did spot many past Kooringal Public school students who performed brilliantly. A special thanks to Mr John Russell from the high school for coordinating and providing this great opportunity for our students. It is great for our students to see what they will be able to undertake and participate in when they move onto Kooringal High School.

Concert Band Sydney Performance

At 7.30am sharp Saturday morning the Concert Band students headed to Sydney for their annual performance in the Sydney Band Festival. Yes the students enjoyed the night time entertainment of fireworks and visited Madame Tussauds. The students were beautifully behaved and received a Gold award for their performance on Sunday morning. Thank you to Mr Tim Harris and the many parents who accompanied the students on the trip. Special thanks also to the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and Jenny Binovec, the Band Conductor.Bev Jenkyn,

Acting Principal

BREAKFAST CLUB DONATIONSDonations of Milo and Honey would be greatly appreciated please.

YEARLY SPELLING BEEIt was a nail biting contest in both spelling bees last week at Kooringal Public School. The audience held their breath as they waited for the magic words from our wise judge, Mrs Balding, “that is correct”. We all counted down the seconds as students contemplated the tricky words and hoped that the trusty time keeper, Ms Harrison, wouldn’t ring the bell to disqualify spellers out of time.

To all spelling bee competitors, be proud of your efforts. You all helped make our yearly spelling bee one to remember! We congratulate the Stage 2 winner Maggie Castle and runner up Victoria Kahulugan. From Stage 3, the winner Daniel Roe and runner-up Xavier Bliss.

Stage 2- Back row from left to right: - Ben Thornton, Chloe Ligakis, Victoria Kahulugan, Jack Ellicot and Malakai Tremain. Front row:- Maggie Castle, Olivia Fynn and Lucy O’Brien.

Stage 3- Back row from left to right: - Harriet Priest, Taniesha Allcorn, Aleesha Carl, Jayden Wordsworth and Preston Oakman. Front row:- Daniel Roe, Hayley Goodhew and Xavier Bliss.

On Thursday 25th August we will highlight Book Week with our traditional Book Character Costume parade. Students are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book or represent the theme – ‘Australia: Story Country’Parents and friends are invited to our parade. When: Thursday 25th August Time: 12.20pm – 1pmWhere: Top Cola

Rug Time: 1pm – 1.20pm

Kooringal Public SchoolBOYS AND GIRLS TOUCH TEAMBoth Boys and Girls Touch Teams played in the final rounds of the PSSA Touch Football Knockout last Friday. Both teams were successful in their first games with the girls beating Franklin 5-3 and the boys winning against Junee North 11-1. Next up in the semi-final rounds, the girls and boys both faced the well drilled South Wagga Public School but unfortunately both teams went down. The boys were lucky enough to play one more game against Leeton, which they one 7-5. A great effort was put in by all students and they most certainly represented Kooringal Public School proudly. A huge thank you to Greg Lewis for training and coaching the girls team on the day and to all the other parents, your support was much appreciated.

FOOD LITERACYOn Thursday, Stage 3 took part in a healthy eating talk ‘The Healthy Lunchbox’ presented by the Red Cross. We learnt more about how to eat healthy, which foods are healthy and which foods are not.

At the end of the session we made healthy fruit kebabs containing watermelon, rockmelon, mandarin and pineapple. When the talk was finished we received a pack consisting of a healthy eating chart, a magnet, sandwich ideas, recipes and food serve sizes. It was very informative.

Olivia Castle and Jessica McGrath

LITTLE ATHLETICS VISITToday, Stage 2 and 3 had a very special guest, Alvin, from Little Athletics, NSW. He talked to us about all the different events that you can participate in and gave us some great tips on how to beat Usain Bolt in the 100m sprint. Some of the sports that Alvin suggested for us were: discus, sprinting races and high jump. He also mentioned that these sports could be enjoyed by all ages. Alvin was very interactive and made everyone laugh; I wouldn’t be surprised if many of us now want to join in all the fun activities that Little Athletics have to offer. If you are interested in joining Little Athletics, please contact the Wagga Branch or speak more with your class teacher.
