The shorts are $50 each and come in a wide range of sizes. It has been very difficult sourcing shorts for the girls that can be consistently supplied and are well made. A huge thanks to Julie Simpson on our P&C for the work she has done in getting them organised. Last week I gave out a link to a survey asking parents to answer 4 questions to help the P&C in making decisions about uniform updates and changes – for example, whether we change to a different colour for the white polo shirts. Unfortunately, only 4 people completed the survey. I will open it until the end of this term to allow more people to provide feedback to help support any decisions made regarding uniform. The link to the survey is below. Uniform Survey https://forms.gle/qxdAx2EXVgz9TG7V8 Year 12 final week This is the last week at school for Year 12 and we are busy getting organised with their final week of activities and farewell assembly held on Friday. We are very proud of our Year 12 students – they have shown themselves to be outstanding leaders, sportspeople, artists, performers, and academics. We wish them the very best for their upcoming examinations, and for life beyond. A huge thank you to Ms Bramley for being such an outstanding Year Advisor to these wonderful students. Tell Them From Me survey A very important part in running our school is to ask for, and respond to, feedback about how our school meets the needs of our students. One tool we use to get feedback about a wide range of areas in the school is the Tell Them From Me survey. This is a survey that has Teacher, Student and Parent versions, tailored to ask questions of each of those groups. It would be greatly appreciated if you were able to take the time to fill out the parent version (students will be given the opportunity to fill out the student survey at school) – the survey link is http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/chsparents Congratulations and thank you Last week, Mr Whittle and Mrs Abbey took the year 10 PASS class to the snow for 3 days to take on the challenge of learning to snowboard. It was on the whole, a very successful trip and all students enjoyed themselves immensely. Thanks you to Mr Whittle and Mrs Abbey for their organisation and support in getting this trip to take place. On assembly today, we recognised Merit and Bronze award winners, students involved in Big Science and the Science and Engineering Challenge, and congratulated the SRC student of the week Georgie Lloyd. A great effort from so many of our students. Newsletter to move to Fortnightly Parents were invited to complete a survey earlier this term, which included questions about ways they get information from the school. One area we received feedback on was support to move the newsletter from weekly to fortnightly. This greater lead in time allows for more information to come in to highlight all the fantastic experiences our students have at school. Starting next term, our newsletter will be published every week B, and available through the usual channels (web page and Skoolbag App). Term 4 start date Next Term, school will start for all students on Monday 14th of October. We wish all students, families and staff a safe and relaxing spring break. HSIE update

My, my, how time flies! It’s only a short time before we farewell our Year 12 students. They have studied Modern History and Business Studies for the last four terms and now only have their HSC examination to sit. The HSIE staff extend our best wishes to each and every one of you as you set off on the next exciting chapter in your lives. Don’t be strangers to us, you’ll always be welcome in our staffroom for a catch-up.

Recently, some of our junior students were able to attend an incursion at the school with the World War I Living History experience. This was a valuable hands-on session that will assist students in understanding some of the rigours of trench warfare during the original ANZACS time on the Western Front.

Year 11 are currently sitting their end of course examinations in Ancient History, Business Studies and Legal Studies. We are confident that the students will be able to display their knowledge, understanding and skills in these subjects, before embarking on their HSC year next term.

Year 10 have swapped subjects this semester and appear to have settled well into their respective subjects.

Year 9 have just completed a unit on the movement of peoples, including slaves, convicts and free settlers. They will now be looking at Australia’s involvement in both World Wars.

Year 8 have been examining Australia’s links to the wider world and will soon begin looking at water as a resource within the context of Australia. After learning about how historians and archaeologists work, Year 7 have started looking at Ancient Egypt.

Our Stage 5 Commerce classes continue to be popular and Ms Bramley is delivering an interesting and challenging course for those students who elected Commerce as a subject.

As always, the HSIE staff are continuously assessing our teaching and learning in the classroom, developing new skills as part of our professional development and contributing whole school initiatives. All of this means that we are busy, busy, busy and looking forward to the end of term.

Ken and Kurt from Canberra Institute of Technology - RTO 0101 visited Crookwell High School NSW DoE and Mulwaree High School students this week and showed off some pretty cool gear! Ken explained the various career opportunities in the renewable energy space and how this industry will only grow and grow. Plus, many of these jobs are international, how cool to be paid to travel! The students tried on some of the safety gear that wind turbine technicians wear - we hope to see a few of these students wearing this kit for real one day! Year 10 PASS Snow Camp

Monday 16th September 2019Crookwell Year 10 PASS students travelled to the snow to undertake two days of snowboarding as part of their course. After lunch and packing the trailer we started our journey experiencing longer than expected travel times due to the fact it was snowing from Cooma to Berridale. On arrival, students and teachers had a delicious roast dinner and then were geared up with clothing, protective equipment and snowboards for the next two days. Tuesday 17th September 2019The day started at 5:45 am with breakfast at 6:30 am and then travelling to Smiggins Hole to undertake snowboarding lessons. We then took a bus to Perisher Front Valley and the students went on the Ski Carpet 2 and the Village 8 Express Chair. The group then returned to Smiggins Hole and completed the day practicing the skills they had learned and trying to ride the Scott J Bar. Wednesday 18th September 2019We made our way to Siggins Hole where the students again undertook another lesson. At the completion of the lesson the group again caught a bus to Perisher where we were able to get the Ski Tube (train) to Blue Cow. Blue Cow had the best views and students were able to take photos. Two students and Mr Whittle took up the option to snowboard at Blue Cow and on finding they missed the Ski Tube (and not wanting to wait half hour for the next one) they snowboarded and hiked back via the Blue Cow Expressway. This involved traversing two mountains to meet the rest of the group who had caught the Ski Tube and returned to Perisher Front Valley. Students rode the Quad Four Express which took the students to the top of Black Perisher Mountain at an altitude 2014 metres above sea level. The students were impressed enough to have a second go on this lift and get some excellent photos. The students then returned to Smiggins Hole to finish off the afternoon using the Kaaten Triple Chair, Burke T Bars and the Scott J Bar. The day finished at 5pm with some students still boarding till the last lift closed. The students had dinner at Cooma and we returned to Crookwell at 11:30pm on Wednesday night. I would like to thank the students for their excellent behaviour and congratulate all the students on their snowboarding ability. I would also like to thank Southern Cross Motor Inn and Mrs Abbey for enabling this trip to happen. I look forward to another snow trip in the future.
