Celebrating Life – the way to thrive is to help others thrive

God breathed life into humans and made us His extra special creation. God spread out before us the rest of His creation – Genesis 1:28-31 – to be cared for, to be enjoyed, to use as needed. This week, the thread is the celebration of this life.

In the beginning, we were given the garden. A place created by God for his glory. A place where man and woman could walk with God. A place that provided everything that was needed. At the end of time, God will dwell again with His people in the holy city. Again it will be a place that will express creativity, ingenuity and His glory. It will be a place where God’s people will live eternally. It will be a place of complete joy and exuberant life.

Between the beginning and the end, we are called to live a life that celebrates our God. A life that acknowledges our Lord as Saviour. A life that sees the blessings still present in this world. We are called to live life and live abundantly, but not with a shallow materialistic goal in mind. We should view prosperity as what we can give away to others and what we can nurture for the benefit of others. Our satisfaction is not in what we can take from this world, but what we should put back into it while we are here.

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. May the favour of the Lord our God rest us on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:14-17

Tournament of MindsThe 2015 Tournament of Minds challenge day is on this weekend at Mt Terry Public School. Our Stage 2/3 team has been working hard to develop their response to a fun social science challenge. Sabastian Vidler, Daniel Williams, George Johnson, Alexander Gregory, Oliver de Jong, Ellie Schubert and Harmony Hall have combined their individual strengths and gifts to work as a team to develop their response to the following challenge:-YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK - GOODBYE History defines who we are, where we have come from and affects the choices we make today. In the future, increased technology has led to a new conundrum. Encyclopaedias are full, Wikipedia is packed and apps are completely overloaded. Information overload means there is too much history for the storage/recording devices available. As a result some history will need to be removed. How to decide which history is needed and which can go? The answer is simple reality TV and the nation votes. CHALLENGE - Your team must select three historical characters (we chose Marie Curie, Leonardo Da Vinci, Shakespeare). These characters from history have been selected to compete in a reality TV survivor-style challenge. Your team must outline each character’s contribution to society and the possible consequences of his/her deletion from history. You will also need to decide who will stay, who will be voted out and what will be the actual impact of their extraction from history? The team has prepared a humorous dramatic presentation and will use props and costumes they have made from a limited list of permitted items. Mrs Bell and Mrs Knight are very proud of the way the group has worked. The team will present their challenge response in a competition involving teams from 13 schools in the region. All the best to our Tournament of Minds team at your challenge day this weekend.

If your child received results, we encourage you to work through the report with your child. See how well your student is going compared to students in their school and nationally, how they are going compared to previous results, identify areas for development and celebrate achievements.
