New Directions International is an evangelical mission organization that empowers followers of Christ to equip church leaders and help at-risk children overseas and help ful ll the Great Commission. We have a particular emphasis on the unreached and under-reached parts of the world. Our children’s ministry is called Feed the Hunger, and seeks to meet the spiritual, physical, and education hunger in needy children.

Dear New Friends and Ongoing Partners,

Did you know that the word “remember” is in the Bible around 230 times? Sometimes it is used in reference to God remembering His covenant with Abraham, remembering our sins no more, or taking communion in remembrance of Jesus’ death on the cross. We take the occasion of this Annual Ministry Report to remember all that God used you to make possible this past year through NDI and Feed the Hunger.

Join me now on a journey around the world as we visit the primary countries where ministry took place last year, where the spiritually and physically poor and hungry found hope and life in Jesus Christ. You can also see a summary video of our year on our website:

www.newdirections.org/home/2012report.

Thank you so much for your partnership as we remember 2012 and press on to what God has in store for 2013!

Blessings,

Joseph WilliamsChief Executive Offi cer

We like to say that a Pack-A-Thon is your way to take a mission trip without leaving the country – and for only $65! Over a two hour shift, each volunteer packs 240 servings of nutritious food. These food packing events have been a blessing for us because it has given anyone and everyone the hands-on opportunity to directly affect the lives of malnourished children.

Meals USALast year alone, over two million meals were packed by 9,500 volunteers in eight states. Our children’s ministry, Feed the Hunger, distributed the meals to over 6,000 at-risk children in Haiti, Jamaica,

Kenya, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

The poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere is also our oldest fi eld of min-istry. Our primary partner there is Pastor Maxeau Antoine. Like NDI, Maxeau is focused on training leaders and helping children. He has a specifi c focus on evangelism training using the EvangeCube for one-on-one witnessing and Experiencing God material. As a result, close to 700 people made decisions for Christ. In addition, Maxeau oversees Feed the Hunger’s food distribution to over 2,000 children in 16 schools and children’s homes.

JAMAICAAlthough this country is known primarily for tourism and illegal drugs, many Jamaican children are neglected. 80-90% live in fatherless homes. To further illustrate the need, during a mission trip last year when school was out, 80 of the 200 students still came to school to receive lunch because it would be their only meal for the day. Pastors Conrad Reid and Nigel Lewis supervise FTH food dis-tribution to eight of the Christian-run preschools and elementary schools under their denomination’s care.

KENYA In the slum and the bush – that’s where NDI is help-ing Kenya. Our partner schools operate in the slums

around Nairobi to give unconditional love and a basic education to street children. Longtime partners, Stak-

well and Francesca Yurenimo, continue their com-prehensive outreach to the various tribes in the north. Despite the constant unrest between the Turkana and Samburu tribes in particular, the Yurenimos reach out

to them through food and water distribution, and by holding sports camps for the youth.

The identity of our partner in Bangladesh has to be concealed due to the sensitivity of doing ministry in a Muslim country. NDI has helped our partner to build “community centers” that have also had wells dug. These centers run preschool programs for local rural children that receive daily nutritious food provided by Feed the Hunger, and have church services on the weekend. Currently, over 1,400 children in 14 locations are being cared for through our partnership.

Our Sri Lankan partner’s identity has to be kept hidden for the same reason as Bangladesh, due to the militant Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Non-Christian parents entrust their children into the care of these programs because they see the quality food and education they are receiving. 500 children in ten locations are receiving Feed the Hunger food. Many adult Bibles, children’s Bibles, and Sunday school materials were distributed, as well as ongoing medical clinics supported.

NDI has several partnerships in India, as it is our oldest mis-sion fi eld in Asia. Dr. S.S. and Mary Rai operate a hospital and

Christian ministry in the north. Murli and Usha Menon have a Bible College and two children’s homes in the south. The

Evangelical Church of India ministers in many different ways everywhere and in between. A highlight of the year was gath-ering with our primary Asian partners in Coimbatore, India at

the Church Planters Training Center that NDI funded.

What was once the world’s only Hindu Kingdom is now a democracy, and the door has been wide open for the Gospel. In addition to helping three children’s homes and a home for widows, NDI is committed to the monthly training of grassroots pastors and evangelists throughout Nepal. This is accomplished through partnership with Dil Tamang and Himalayan Bible Study Academy. HBSA celebrated ten years of ministry in 2012. In addition, 581 leaders received training at nine mobile seminars last year.

NDI was able to help partners in other countries where we also have pre-existing partnerships. Of special note was the fi nancial assistance we provided to Christians who were persecuted for their faith in the midst of the civil war in the Muslim stronghold of Mali. In addition, Bibles were given to Arab children in Israel. Bicycles and train-ing were provided for pastors in Ethiopia. A church building was constructed in Togo. We continue to support a children’s home on the Bhutan border with India.

New Directions International is pleased to present you with this fi nancial pie chart, which demonstrates our efforts to be as effi cient and effective as possible in carrying out the mission to which God has called us. While 25% is considered the “industry standard” for non-profi ts to spend on administrative and fundraising expenses, NDI maintains a percentage well below that standard.

To further demonstrate our commitment to fi nancial accountability, NDI is a longtime member in good standing with The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (www.ecfa.org). ECFA is an accreditation agency dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to the Seven Standards of Responsible StewardshipTM.

All gifts made to New Directions International are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Our fi nances are reviewed annually by an independent public auditing fi rm. There is also ongo-ing oversight by a Board of Directors.

NDI and Feed the Hunger’s websites have merged! This new site gives you all of the information you need to stay plugged in. All of the following ways to get involved can be easily found from the home page and selecting “Get Involved”.

Ongoing prayer cover is the most crucial need of the ministry, and therefore, the most important activity that you

can participate in. Please visit our prayer page for the current prayer needs from around the world. We will not only post the needs, but also the answered prayers.

Your monthly or annual giving to Circle of Friends supports the ministry and allows us to focus our ef-forts on meeting

the needs of leaders and children. Circle of Friends is the life-blood of NDI and Feed the Hunger, so please give in this practical man-ner however the Lord may lead.

There are two main avenues that NDI pro-vides everyone with to actively participate in missions. The fi rst is to volun-

teer at a Packathon for a two-hour shift to pack food for at-risk chil-dren. The second is to travel on an NDI Expedition overseas. There are 8-12 trips taking place over the course of 2012 to Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.newdirections.org 15
