“The #1 criteria for advancement and promotion for professionals is
an ability to communicate effectively.” —Ralph G. Nichols
Jay Hall of the consulting firm Teleometrics has studied the performance of 16,000 executives and found a
direct correlation between achievement and the ability to care for and connect with people. Here are a few
of the findings:
So my challenge to you is to ask yourself, “How effective are my relationships with family, friends, employ-
ees and co-workers?” If you like your answer than keep doing what you are doing BUT if not, maybe try to
find ways to connect with the people around you. As my old boss once told me, years ago, “The problem
with communication is, you think, it actually occurred!”
Author: Craig Johnson, Chief, Human Resources
