Non-User On-line request First time use, allow for introduction to lab

and sample prep area Prep samples correctly Fill out Request Sheet CORRECTLY Leave samples or later examination or

stay during SEM examination All data will be stored and archived Clean Sample Stubs

Supervised User

Previous SEM training and or class On-line request for time on the scope Sample prepped in the appropriate way Responsible for data collection All data is saved on the D drives of both

computers and will be clean periodically Clean sample stubs

Un-Supervised User

Allow time for good data collection First time samples can be a mini-

research project If prior work has been done, bring to

the SEM appointment. Use optical microscopes to locate

areas of interest and mark them Respect other’s time in the lab Respect my time in the lab

Not all SEM images are sharp and clear. If you just need basic information you can usually obtain that from a blurred image.

Publication images need more care and might require improper sample prep for best results (i.e. over coating)

Optical microscopes are available on a first come first serve basis

If you need instruction please let lab personnel know before you use them so as not to interrupt SEM sessions

Lab Etiquette

No food or drink on the SEM console. Please do not interrupt a person while

operating the scope. Be aware of how long it will take you to

examine your samples. Clean up your sample prep.
