What is the job of a film distributor?

A film distributor is a single person or a company mainly responsible for the distribution of a film. The distributor will set the release date for the movie and what method the movie is distributed by (DVD, Cinema etc.). They can do this directly if they own the cinema or theatre that the movie is playing at.

Aardman Animations

Nationality: United Kingdom How big is it?: Multinational, as their films sell

worldwide What other films have they distributed?: They

only distribute their own movies, no one else's What genres do they specialise in?: Animation,

Comedy, Action Are they suited to distribute their own film?: I think that Aardman are ready to distribute their own films as they

have built up a big reputation from being a Bristol based animation studio to making films that are released worldwide. Due to the fact that they are based in the uk this means that they have the budget and publicity that they could easily distribute their own movie.

CBS Films

Nationality: United States How big is it?: Multinational What other films have they distributed?: They

distribute films from a multitude of production companies

What genres do they specialise in?: All genres, as the films they distribute vary

Are they suited to distribute their own film?: I think that CBS Films are ready to distribute their own films

as they are a very big, multinational company that is funded by a massive country. As they have been formed for a very long time, they would easily have the experience to distribute a new film due to how long they have been distributing for.

Finnkino Oy

Nationality: Finnish How big is it?: Independent What other films have they distributed?: They distribute

Finnish films to the populous of Finland and they distribute other films from various countries around Finland too.

What genres do they specialise in?: All genres, as they distribute various films:

Are they suited to distribute their own film?: I think that if they were to make their own film, they would be able

to distribute it very well to the Finnish population but it would be hard for them to get it rolling in other countries. Due to the fact that the population of big countries like the UK and US are not suited for a Finnish film. People in these countries are used to big, action packed blockbusters and unless that’s what Finnkino Oy has to offer, they are not going to get very far in these bigger countries.
