Message from President Jan Cook

This will be my last letter to the Senior Scene. Surprisingly, I have found this method of communicating to be very effi-cient and effective. The past months have been a joy in my life. The first couple of weeks, I felt as if I was in a fog. I knew nothing, but people stepped up and held my hands as we tried to make good decisions for the Center. Sheryl Clap-ton stepped up as vice president, Joy Long continued as secretary and she also created a new position, Volunteer Coordinator. In those capacities they took the burden off me, for which I am truly grateful. Without them, I absolute-ly could not have done the thing I do best, delegate! Of course, Larry Lemser as treasurer was always in my corner. Marilynn Huseby pulled off two really profitable fundrais-ers, which helped our bottom line. We implemented giving our people salads for a more nutritious meal and the diners have contributed to that. In fact, anything that has been asked of our guests, they have stepped up and helped with. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone I’ve mentioned and to the many volunteers that have shown up on time and did their volunteer duties. Please continue to help your elected officers. I think we have proven that if we all pull together we can make the Montrose Senior Center a “happening” place.

Pomona Third Graders / Seniors Sharing Project

We are looking for volunteer seniors to meet with 8- to 10-year-old Pomona third graders to share your stories of how you grew up. You will compare and contrast stories of what it was like for you at that age, such as where you grew up, what your chores were, what your pets’ names were.

This is an opportunity to foster kindness, respect and un-derstanding across the generations.

We need you on Mondays, January 13, 20 and 27, from

1:00 – 2:00 pm at the Senior Center. Please RSVP to Cindy

at 252-4884 if you would like to be a part of this sharing

project. You can volunteer for one or all of the days.

NEW! Reiki for Stress Release & Relaxation Reiki Master Jan Graves

Reiki is a practice of transmitting healing energy through the hands. The energy is not guided by the practitioner but the energy has its own innate wisdom to guide itself.
