NEWS FROM THE UNITS

ALCHEMIST CLOWNS

Hi clowns and clown followers! I want to tell the voting members thank you for electing me as the Chief Clown for 2016. We elected a full staff of officers with Earl “Bow Wow” Woodson as Assistant Chief, Wayne “Shorty” Heimsoth as the Marshall, Sam “Bows” Comstock as the secretary and Lou “Corney” Cobb as the Treasurer. We are going to have a fun year. I am working on meals at meetings again and asking our ladies to attend the dinners and meetings as well. We do nothing secret and our ladies are the vital cog in our wheel, so I am personally inviting them to our monthly meetings all year! Please come have dinner with us, attend our meetings, and share your ideas! You can’t vote, but I value your opinions and love your company! So, please stop by on the second Thursday every month in Livermore at the Temple. Our Change of Gavel is on February 27th at the Temple. Tickets are selling well and are only $40.00 each. Please see me, Bob “Bob-O” Huntley, or Sam “Bows” Comstock. The event flyer is somewhere in

this newsletter with all the details!! Remember, this is a Hawaiian themed party where the only tie allowed will be a Mai Tai. I will have more information as we progress through the year but for now, hope to see you all at the Change of Gavel and the meetings!Ted “ALOHA” MeldenChief, 2016, 209-272-2800

MOTORCYCLE PATROL

As the year came to an end, it was nice to reflect on our year of service. Dublin, Oakdale, Sonora, Livermore, and Modesto all had parades with steady representation: 4-5 Patrol members “riding so children can walk.” I have wondered where that motto comes from, and during this summer I found two other Shrine MCs using the same one. Makes me wonder if it is an official Shrine motto for motorcycle units and clubs.

Our patrol spent last September 19 supporting Ben Ali Motorcycle Club in their first annual Poker Run. With 7 members, Aahmes Motorcycle patrol was well represented by president Steve Huddleston, Chris Hansford, secretary/auditor Isaac Carbajal, Tom Nipper, Steve Glazier, Jimmy Tucker, and our newest addition Keith Rogers. We also spread the philanthropy of the brotherhood by inviting lone wolf Steve Larson (Ben Ali Shriner) and John and Karen (a couple from the area) to ride with us, making quite a presence on the road. It was fun supporting our neighboring Ben Ali temple, and this was an important step in kicking off the AAHMES POKER RUN this coming spring, April 23rd, OPEN TO ALL UNITS AND CLUBS cars and bikes. Interested in sponsoring one of our stops? Let Tom Nipper or Chris Hansford know.

The annual Aahmes Motorcycle Patrol Breakfast OV at the Cattleman’s restaurant in Livermore was a HUGE success. We were joined this year by the Patrol and all present had a great time. We welcomed the new Potentate, and introduced the new MC leaders: Tom Nipper, president, Chris Hansford, VP and secretary, Isaac Carbajal, treasurer and politician, and Herman Rellar, parade captain.

And one last thought: We all put a lot into the Shrine, our temple, and the children. The average person uses approximately 2,000 steps to walk a mile. In 2015, members of the Aahmes Motorcycle Patrol logged approximately an average of 700 miles per active member for Shrine events. This means that we have worked to support more than 1.4 million steps for a child, each! No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child, no matter how he helps.Keep the shiny side up, brothers.Tom Nipper

CLUB CHATTER

Reflection... Looking back upon the activities of the Redwood Shrine Club, a great deal was accomplished in 2015. As President, it was an honor and privilege to serve alongside all our nobles in the events on behalf of Shriners Hospitals for children. Now it’s time to look ahead. In November, at our stated meeting, Noble Ken Spaulding was elected as our President for 2016. Ken has been an enthusiastic and committed member of Redwood Shrine Club and we are eagerly looking forward to supporting him during his tenure as President. We ended up the year with two Christmas parties: one hosted at the home of Noble John Ayers and Lady Donna on December 13th, plus on the 17th Scottish Rite prepared a gala Christmas feast for our club at the Fortuna Masonic Lodge. With everything behind us, Redwood Shrine Club wishes all Aahmes Nobles and their families joy and peace throughout the new year. Ken Christiansen, President

REDWOOD SHRINE CLUB

OAKDALE SHRINE CLUBWe are off and running for 2016 with a full staff of officers. Again I would like to thank all officers for stepping up and filling the vacancies. The officers for the Oakdale Shrine Club for 2016 are:

President: Joe Colvard1st. Vice: Chuck Cross2nd Vice: Larry DeckerTreasurer: Rob Bennett

Secretary: Aaron HodgeBoard Members: TBA

With the New Year ahead and a full calendar of events, this year will be special. It all starts with membership. If you know of any Blue Lodge Member who is not a Shriner and would be a good candidate to become a Noble let’s talk to him. If you know of any Shriner in the Oakdale area who is not a member of the Oakdale Shrine Club let’s talk to him. Oakdale Shrine Club Dues:Dues are now payable for the year of 2016. The Dues for 2016 are $10.00. If you haven’t had the time to pay your Dues for 2016 please do so as soon as possible.I plan to present to the body of the Oakdale Shrine Club to co-sponsor events with the Oakdale Shrine Club and both the Ladies of the Eastern Star as well as the Young Ladies of the Rainbow Org. We will be looking for ideas for fund raisers as well as team building. In addition to event timing I am working with the Worshipful Master Dan Sissel of the Knights Ferry Masonic Lodge 112 to try and set our calendars to avoid conflict. (Thanks Dan!) I was approached by the president of the Escalon Rotary Club in regard to would there be any interest in co-sponsoring a community project in the local area. My immediate response was that I would need more details as to the cost and size of the project but I would present the idea to the body of the OSC and I would let him know how the club felt. As of now I have not heard of any sickness or distress of any of our members. If you know of anyone please let me know @ (209) 247-7068 so that we can get a card to them or help in any way we can.Regards, Joe Colvard, President, Oakdale Shrine Club, Cell (209)247-7068

RENO SNOW TRAIN TRIP, Past and Present...

My wife (Ginger) and I had a great time when we went on the Aahmes Snow Train to Reno in 2014. Noble Lou Cobb and his helpers did a great job making sure that all of us Shriners did not dehydrate on our way to and from Reno (or while we were there), and the ladies on the trip made sure that we did not starve by seeing that we had more than a sufficient amount of goodies to eat both ways. We had such a good time, even Elvis seemed to spend as much time in our railcar as he did in the car in which he was entertaining. (I’m not sure he was the real Elvis Presley, but he sure looked and sounded like him). If you have never been on the Aahmes train trip to Reno, you can change that by signing up for the “Reno Sierra Scenic Train Speakeasy Murder Mystery“ trip on March 1 - 3 2016. If you think the trip is too expensive, compare it to what a similar Aahmes train trip cost approximately 50 years ago ($348.50 vs. $53.50 in 1957) when Aahmes had two Reno train trips. I searched on my computer and found that the average annual salary in 1957 was around $4,000 and is now approx. $46,000. I am not a skilled mathematician, but my calculations indicate that the train trip in 2016 is about half the cost in 1957 considering inflation over the years, and they didn’t even have a murder mystery on board. What a bargain! Perhaps Aahmes will have to schedule two Reno Snow Train trips next year to accommodate all of us bargain hunters! Jim Westfall, Aahmes Historian
