Nobles,

The year is officially 1/3 over. What can I say, you all are the best! We had all kinds of fun at installations, the 70’s ball, a record breaking circus, our first stag event of the year and an amazing event for the widows. I want to thank the widows who came out to the widows’ luncheon. The many thank you cards Kerry and I received were a testament that this event was a much needed addition to our annual line-up. We are looking at doing another in the fall. Thank you widows for everything you have done for the Shriners. A special thank you to Debbie & Gale Bennington and Brenda Pieper for their hard work putting it together!

By the time you read this our ceremonial will be over. I know this event went great. Rob-by and Pam really stepped up to make this event super cool and great fun! I also know we had a big class because the membership team has been cranking this year. It was an amazing experience to both honor my parents at the ceremonial and have my oldest son join our ranks. This will be Gavin’s first Camel’s Tales as a noble. Gavin, I love you and I hope the Shrine is as fulfilling for you as it has been for me. You will not come to know a more amazing group of people ever in your life than the Shriners and their ladies. That my son, I can assure you!

PSA: PLEASE GET YOUR CIRCUS TICKETS AND MONEY TURNED IN ASAP!

We have lots of great things coming in May and June. Get your reservations in for the Mother’s day Brunch. Our outer guard Jack and Gail are in charge of this event and are working to make it a wonderful Sunday for MOMS!

June, we are really busy. First, we have the First Ladies luncheon for our amazing ladies and a Bloody Mary breakfast for the nobles and potential new members on June 3rd. On June 12th we have Horse Hookie, a stag event to Fair-mount Park for the Tuesday day time races. We have the Pote’s trip June 18th-25th with 46 people cruising to Cuba and Cozumel. With the crew we have signed up, this is sure to be a great time. Dougal, if you get arrested in Cuba you are on your own. Finally, we cap off the month with a nice simple family event. We are bringing back the ice cream social. Bring out the family or even the extended family for an evening of indulgence on June 30th. We will have low calorie ice cream so you can eat as much as you want, HA!

July brings Imperial Session. If you are going, we need to know ASAP as we can only hold rooms for a limited amount of time. We also have our Gun Raffle. Nobles, this is a very important fund raiser. We need nobles to work weekends at Bass Pro and we need everyone to sell tickets. Tickets are being mailed to every noble. Please try to sell these tick-ets. They are easy to sell and this money is needed to continue the upkeep of our building. Our ballroom is in desper-ate need of an update and this fund raiser has the ability to pay for it. We also slid in a night at the Muny on July 10th. We did this event years ago and is where I met Jack and Gail Melton. We had so much fun that night I asked Jack to organize it again. The show is Jersey Boys and is sure to be a good time.

August is no different than June and July with it being an action packed month. August 4th we have the pinewood derby races with our friends from Ainad. August 11th, First Lady Kerry is having the Rock-n-Roll Bingo event to raise money for a new marquee out front to advertise our events and our facility. This way we get rid of the construction sign and replace it with something that portrays our organization in a more professional light, no pun intended. Final-ly, we have CSSA in Branson so get those reservations in as well before we have to release the rooms.

Review every page of this Camel’s Tales for all the information on the various events. We said we were going to have fun this year and we are doing everything we can to live up to that for you. The hard work pays off when we see our members having fun. It pays off even more when we show non-Shriners how great it is to be a Shriner! Having Fun Helping Kids, who wouldn’t like to do that!

Let’s continue to have fun!

Fraternally,

Kyle McEvoyIllustrious Potentate 2018

The Power of PrayerBy: David Dieckhaus, PP

To understand the power of prayer, one must first know the meaning of prayer. I checked several definitions and learned that the plain and simple definition of prayer is simply explained as talking with God. It can’t be any easier than this.

Prayer happens when our heart, soul and mind work together and talk with God. Sometimes we ask God for forgiveness for a wrong we committed. We sometimes ask for his guidance on how to live our lives. Sometimes we ask for his blessings on people who are ill, and other times we simply thank God for walking at our side through our daily lives.

John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

The Power of Prayer

Despite what we may or may not understand about prayer, God has deliberately chosen this particular vehicle as the one that drives His activity in His people’s lives. It is the means by which He allows us to partner with Him in the fulfilling of His will. He has created prayer as a primary way of putting us into personal contact with Him and with His eternal realities, any hour of the day or night.

Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the Enemy and to all His ploys against you.

When Paul describes our spiritual armor, He includes the belt of truth, the body armor of God’s righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—the very Word of God. But He doesn’t stop there. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere,” Paul says in Ephesians 6:18.

2018 Shrine Circus UpdateDon Taylor – Circus Chairman (636-485-6922)Ron Reynolds – Circus Director (314-732-2121)

WOW – What a great Circus.

Thanks go out to all who helped make this circus a success. It takes many people to put on an event like this and each of you did an excellent job to make it happen. All numbers are not yet in, but it looks to be a good one.

Please make sure you get your Ticket money in quickly. This will ensure we get a final number to report soon.

Now take a short rest and we will start all over again for 2019 very soon.

Your Circus Committee does an excellent job to ensure that we have a successful event. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know at 314-732-2121 or [email protected].

Our goal continues to be to make our circus the best ever and to keep the seats full.

The American Muscle Unit is the proud owner of a new room at the Shrine! With the merger of the Hospital and Reception Committees, the room we formerly borrowed from the Hospital Committee is now ours to share with the Smokin' Nobles Unit! The room is on the 2nd floor, across the hall from the Chanters in the southwest wing of the Shrine. A big “Thank You” to the generous Hospital Com-mitteemen for hosting us in the past.

The Musclemen were ever-present at the Circus, working hard to support the Swing Dance Unit with novelties. A special thank-you to Greg Martin who returned from Atlanta to assist. The management of the novelties for the Circus is a huge responsibility which brings in a great deal of money for our Shrine. Wally & Gloria and the rest of their team did an outstanding job! This writer has personally been involved with novelties for over a decade, and this year was the best ever! Somehow, Swing Dance finds a way to get better every year.

The American Muscle Unit is an active parade Unit, and we will be parading our Muscle Cars and Flying our Magic Carpets in many parades this year.

In addition to our members' Muscle Cars, the Unit has 2 small and two large Flying Carpets. With

Arab Patrol

our increased number of these unique parade vehicles, we are looking for additional new genies to pilot the carpets. Please consider joining us if you wish to show off your Muscle Car or if you would like to delight those attending our parades by piloting a Magic Carpet..

The American Muscle Unit also sponsors several BBQs for our veterans at the Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital. The Unit serves hundreds of veterans and hospital staff in conjunction with the Smokin' Nobles Unit, Bonhomme Lodge, St. Louis Lodge #1, and the Widow's Sons.

If you have a muscle car you would like to show or parade, join us. If you do not have a mus-cle car but would like to drive one of the Unit's Mystical Flying Carpets, join us! The American Muscle Unit meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm in our new Unit Room we share with the Smokin' Nobles. We hope to see you there.

What a great circus!!! I think we made a million dollars face painting or somewhere close to that. So I would like to thank our ladies for all the hard work. They were always busy while we were down in the locker room relaxing and eating pumpkin bread. Maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud. The skits were done to perfection if you ask the skit director. If you ask anyone else you might get a different answer. But we had a lot of fun doing them. Our unit has been praised by many of Moolah members not associated with the

Director: Jerry GaddyPresident: John Glass1st Vice President: Barry Spitzer2nd Vice President: David LarkinSecretary: Jim GesellTreasurer: Bill Bradford

The Chanters are proud to announce that we will be singing the National Anthem at the Stated Meetings in August, October, and December 2018. We were also honored to have been chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Friday and Saturday night performances at the 2018 Circus.

On Thursday, April 5th the Chanters participated in the Cardinal's Opening Day Party at our Hospital. We sang 4 different baseball-related songs for various groups on all three floors of the Hospital.

The Chanters participated in the Circus Parade on March 10th and in the St. Patrick's Day Pa-rade on Saturday, March 17th. The next parade is the Ainad Circus Parade on June 1st, then the Ballwin Parade on June 9th, the Fair St. Louis (formerly the VP) Parade around July 4th, the Green Tree Parade on September 25th, and the final parade planned is the St. Louis Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 22nd.

The Moolah Chanters will be returning to the Impe-rial Session in Daytona Beach, Florida in July to de-fend our National Championship Title. The Moolah Chanter Barbershop Quartet will also be competing again to defend their crown. As last year's Cham-pions, the Moolah Chanters will have the honor of performing the music at the Imperial Session Church Service on Sunday, July 15th. As we did last year, we are inviting the other Chanter Units at Imperial to sing with us. Last year, we had over 30 men performing, and the sound was wonderful. And as a special surprise, former Shriner Hospital patient Ketchi, a finalist from “America's Got Talent” has agreed to perform a song as part of the Church Service. If you are attending the Imperial Session, we hope to see you there!

The Chanters will be singing the National Anthem for the St. Louis Soccer Club on Saturday, June 16th. This will be the fifth year in a row that the Chanters have had this honor.

The Chanters will be hosting quarterly Ladies Night Parties this year. The next Ladies Night has not been scheduled, but any Shriner interested in joining the Chanters is invited to attend with his Lady. Dinner, an open bar, and entertainment will be provided. We hope to see you there.

The Chanters are looking forward to another outstanding year under new President John Glass. We meet every Monday in the Unit Room, with our business meeting on the first Monday of every month. If you like to sing, we would love to have you join us. If you do not sing but play the piano, we would love to have you join us as an accompa-nist. We hope to see you there

clowns on how hard they saw us work and that we never stopped. What a great compliment to receive on our work with all the kids.

It’s summer time and things are going to slow down. We will still have the Belleville parade and numerous events to keep clowning around. The Deaf Festival was well attended and a great time. Thanks Buckles (Dave Hartwig) for all you do for these children.

We will not be seeing much of Merlin (Tom Dolan) this summer as he has signed on with the Washington Nationals single A team that plays in Williamsport, Virginia. This is the same team that Tim Tebow plays for and Merlin is in right while Tim is in center. As of this writing Merlin is 2 for 8 with a triple and 3 RBI's. He told me that if anyone is coming that way to call him for tickets. What a great guy even though he is a wronghander.

Every family has that one weird relative. If you don't know who that is, then its probably you!

The Hospital and Reception Committees have completed their landmark, breakthrough consolidation. By unanimous vote, both Committees voted to form the “new” Hospital and Reception Committee. The individual Hospital and Reception committees will continue to follow their respective By-Laws and fulfill their regular activities while inviting members from the other group to also participate. The monthly meeting will be held each First Friday following dinner.

The Hospital Committee held a Board of Gov-ernor’s Day pancake breakfast at the Shriners Hospital for Children on Wednesday, March 21st. Chairman Bob Berry, as always, organized the event, advertised the event, brought all the nec-essary materials, and expertly cooked pancakes with blueberries and/or chocolate chips and/or pecans. Bob and his BBQ team will be utilizing a brand-new BBQ grill to cook hamburgers, hot dogs, and possibly chicken breasts for future lunches for over one hundred patients, their families and hospital staff.

Randy Baer, Bill Bradford, and Andy Maine (and his son Conner) participated in the KMOV Channel 4 Telethon for the Shriners Hospitals for Children that raised over $136,000. Thanks, guys!

Many of our members are volunteers who staff The Welcome Desk at the Hospital to greet and welcome our patients and their families and to drive patients and their families to the hospital for appointments. Additional volunteers are always needed to help work this front desk of the Hospital during clinic hours in the morning or afternoon, or to drive the Hospital Van. If you are available, please contact Bill Bradford at (314) 974-3084 (The Welcome Desk) or Art Goerke at [email protected] (Van Drivers).

Moolah Circus was a success! Thank you to all that were able to work it. A special thank goes out to John Spraul and Jerry D’Agostino for organizing the times for the novelty booths. Article continued on the next page.

UNIT & COMMITTEE REPORTS

Director: Rick Gwydir 314-504-1091Drum Major: Dave Glenn 314-560-4431By Jim Hubeli The Drum Corps met at the St. Charles Boat House parking lot on Sat. March 10 for the Moolah Circus parade. Everyone was on time so we sped off to the parade start on the trailer. There was a pretty large crowd of Shrine families along the route to cheer the groups on. After the short parade, a large crowd gathered at the Tem-ple for the Circus Kickoff for lunch and activities by the Moolah units. On Sat. March 17, which was St. Patrick's Day, we participated in the parade in downtown St. Louis. Since St. Patrick's Day fell on Sat., it ap-peared that the crowds all dressed in green were even larger than usual. Thanks to the Temple for providing the green sweatshirts for all Moolah participants. Even though it was chilly, the crowds were pretty noisy along the route. Of course we played our Irish music like " When Irish Eyes Are Smiling", " My Wild Irish Rose" and"McNamara's Band". On March 22, the first day of the Circus, Don Baur, Steve Pieper PP and Jim Hubeli played a few tunes at the Mini Circus at Childrens Hospital. Divan members along with the Moolah Clowns and several circus performers entertained the children who are unable to attend the main circus. The 4 day circus went off well and we understand that the attendance was favorable, even with all the rain. The animals are always the main attrac-tions and all kids still like to ride the elephants, camels and ponies. Rick Gwydir and Dave Glenn thank everyone for the good attendance at all the Grand Entries. The Drum Corps played the "Star Spangled Banner " at several performances. CLUB CONNECTION

Three Rivers Shrine Club

Daniel BooneShrine Club

President Danny Phillips 270-872-5464

So far this year Three Rivers Shrine Club is doing very well. Our February meeting was very informative. Illustrious Sir Kyle McEvoy and First Lady Kerry visited to recruit for Team Kyle and they were met with incredible enthusiasm by the club members. The March meeting had a lot of discussion and we are now currently looking for a bus for club functions. The can-do attitude that is being displayed by the members of Three Rivers Shrine Club is contagious and makes me proud to be a member.

The circus this year was incredible. I highly recommend that anyone who has not attended in the past to plan on doing so in the future. There is something for everyone in this show. Anything from elephants to motorcycle stunts, I promise you will have fun.

Looking forward, this is going to be a busy year. I’m excited for the Spring Ceremonial May 5th as well as the Hillbilly Degree on May 19th at ECMO. Three Rivers Shrine Club will be hosting a River Poker Run on July 7th. This event takes place on the scenic Current River and is a ton of fun. I encourage everyone who enjoys being outdoors and being surrounded by great people to come out and participate in the event. I believe that keeping active in the events throughout the Shrine will improve morale as well as membership.

It is with great sadness that I pass the word of Past President of Three Rivers Shrine Club James Stubblefield’s passing on 13 February 2018, and the passing of Past President of Three Rivers Shrine Club Franklin Smith on 3 April 2018. Please take time to pray for these families in their time of need.

We have several events ahead of us this year, make the most of your Shrine experience and get out and be involved.

The Three Rivers Shrine Club is located at 3102 Kennedy Lane, Poplar Bluff MO 63901.

President: Bill Kohout1st V. Pres.: Ron Aldridge2nd V. Pres.: Paul HoneaSecretary/Treasurer: Elmo Blum

With deep sadness we must share the news of the passing of our First Vice President Ronald Aldridge on April 7. Ron’s battle with cancer is over and he is at peace. We appreciate all of the time and efforts Noble Ron and his lady Judy gave to the Joachim Shrine Club doing God’s work. Ron referred many children to our hospital and he will be missed.

The Joachim Shrine Club meets on the second Monday of the month (7:00PM) at the Shekinah Lodge #256 in Crystal City, Mo.

We kicked off the parade season on April 28 with the Desoto Farmers Market Parade. We have several dates set for our fundraisers and parades and look forward to a busy slate of activities planned all summer. All of our Nobles and their ladies play an important role in helping to raise awareness and support for the Hospital as well as gifting donations to many worthwhile local organizations in Jefferson County.

Come join us at our meeting on the second Mon-day of the month and enjoy dinner at 6:15 and the business portion at 7:00. We are privileged to be able to help so many and we encourage everyone to participate in our parades and barbe-cues and enjoy the fellowship, camaraderie, and all of our charitable endeavors.

President: David P. Perkins 573-338-9509Secretary: David Mauldin 573-338-0211 Capital Shrine Club held it's regular meeting at the Club Tuesday March 13, 2018. There was some discussion of the recent Installation of the three clubs at Meadow Lakes Country Club. Everyone in attendance were pleased with the activities and the numbers in attendance. Our new Club President David Perkins was out of State on business, so the meeting was presided over by 1st Vice President David Lewis. There was a discussion about the Potentate's request for each Unit, Club, and Committee to appoint a representative to serve on the Moolah Membership Committee. We will investigate to see if the out-state members must be presentor could possibly participate via tele-conference. The date for our annual Fish Fry is set for Saturday, June 23rd. The Missouri River Bottom band will play; and there will be special music by Violinist Chloe Sartain. We do have some sickness in the member-ship. A 50/50 drawing was conducted, and all proceeds donated to the Club..A & J dollars were also collected.

Capital Shrine Cluband reasonable prices. At 7:30 the guys have a brief meeting and the ladies play bunko.

You will find Daniel Boone to be a friendly group of Shriner’s and Ladies, and we promise to make you and your Lady feel welcome. Give us a try and I can guarantee you both will have a great time!

If you would like more information about the Daniel Boone Shrine Club and our activities give Presi-dent Mark a call at 314-605-7615. We’ll put you on our mailing list and you’ll be able to keep up with our activities and join us when you are available.

High Priestess: Lisa Kennedy 314-471-8003

Hello! Greetings to you and yours from Nailah Court #107! We had a terrific Installation of Officers for the 2018-2019 year, on April 8th, in the Oasis Room, at Moolah Temple. We have a new slate of officers and we are ready to get going helping the kids of Shriners Hospitals! We will be holding various fundraisers this year, so watch for your chance to help us help the kids! Our thanks go to Moolah for the use of the Oasis Room. We would also like to thank those who were in atten-dance and helped enjoy the celebration with our Court. If we can be of assistance, please see one of the officers and we will be in touch. We enjoy working alongside the fine people of Moolah.

If anyone would care to join our fine organization, any one of our officers or members would be very happy to help you with information, a petition for membership, or any questions you may have. We are always looking for new ladies and new ideas! Please consider finding out more about us!

As the new High Priestess of Nailah Court #107, I would like to thank all the super ladies that keep our Court moving forward. They are all truly the “keys” to our success!

Joyce Ann Jaillite-Loebner, Queen 314 -874-9095 Recorder PQ Mary LaTragna 314- 566-4727 We want to extend an invitation to all ladies, 18 and older, to join our wonderful group of ladies for a sisterhood of philanthropy, good friends, and good times. We would love to have you join us!. We welcome your ideas, energy, and willingness to help support our temple. As always, all our funds go to support Shriners Hospitals for children.

We are creating our outreach programs to help our Masonic family know who we are and what we do. We want everybody to know we are a network of 137 temples, 126 in the U.S. and 11 in Canada. Our membership exceeds 25,000! We have donated over 3.1 million dollars to help with patient care at Shriners Hospital for Children in 2015, and 55 million dollars total since our inception in 1913. Read all about us at website: donfdn.org. Please stop by our display case in the downstairs hallway of our Shrine and pick up a brochure of our order. It tells who we are and the great things we do. We have so many wonderful ladies that work hard to insure that we support the Shrine Hospital to the best of our ability, and who are dedicated to helping our Shriners when asked. If you have any questions or would like more information about our organization, please contact Queen Joyce Ann Jailette-Loebner, or PQ Mary LaTrag-na at 314-566-4727. We will again this year work to support the Tem-ple by working at the Circus, serving at the stated meetings, working in the office when asked, working at the Junior Achievement Fair, and in any way we can be of service. Our ladies are so good at responding to calls asking for assistance and we are so proud to be able to do so. The Moolah Guides Bingo Committee has been so supportive of our order! We provided Dinner as a THANK YOU for all the considerations over the past years. There are some pictures of the event on page 25.
