We are planning a bus trip to the Lucky Eagle Casino,on Friday January 24th. We need 50 people mini-mum ON THE BUS to guarantee we can makethis trip happen, so PLEASE ask your friends andneighbors and lets have a great day with a BIGgroup of people ready to play and have FUN!The bus will be leaving MCCC at 9am, so plan onmeeting here around 8:30am. They offer reducedprice lunch for our attendees. We will return around4:00pm.The fee for this trip is $5.00 and is payable a minimumof two weeks PRIOR to the trip. Please fill out thesign-up sheet, including players club number, ad-dress, and phone number.

NEW Quilt Block of theMonth Program!

We are starting a new program this month where a quiltblock pattern will be chosen and available at the center. Allparticipating in the program will make one or more blocksin the pattern and color scheme announced. After youcomplete them, turn them in to the center and receive oneraffle ticket for each block you turn in. A ticket will bechosen at random and that quilter will receive ALL theblocks of the month! Some sample blocks are available toview, as well as the pattern, in the main hall. Call or stop inthe center for more info!

A computerized system called “My SeniorCenter” will soon be in the reception foyer when you enter MCCC. It willre-place the current sign-in sheets and help the staff to manage all of the sign-ups, sign-ins, and reporting of services.MySeniorCenter is installed in over 700 senior centers. The system has helped senior centers all over the U.S. to im-prove their reporting to funders and increase their capabilities to receive funding by more accurately showing what

services are being provided. We look forward to this new tool to help us bemore efficient and increase funding opportunities. What it will look like foryou when you come to the Center:

1. All patrons will receive a small “key card” (The card contains NO personalinformation, but will allow ournew system to recognize you).

2. Instead of being checked infor lunches or on paper sheetsfor other programs, you’ll pres-

ent your key card to the scanner or enter your name on the screen.

3. You’ll press the touch-screen computer to select each of the pro-grams that you’ll be participating in that day and then press the finishbutton (our screen will look similar to the one pictured here).

The system is designed to be very user-friendly, but staff and trained volunteers will be availableuntil all “sign-ins” are going smoothly and easily!More information will also be available at the center and you can try it out as it rolls out in late January! 12-531

Home Cooked MealEach Wednesday and Thursday, Mid-County Community Center hosts a home-cookedlunch. It not only provides a nutritious meal but also affords the opportunity to socializewith old friends and to meet some new ones. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. for asuggested donation of $3.00 for clients 60 years of age and over, caregivers and/orspouses of clients, and disabled clients of all ages; however, everyone is welcome! Therequired cost for all others is $5.00. Thank you in advance for making your reservationsby 12:00 pm on Tuesday if possible.

MCCC Spotlight...

Introducing: Don & Betty Blomquist

Don and Betty are originally from Duluth,Minnesota. They moved here in 1965 andhave lived in their present home for forty eight years.Betty and Don lived next door to each other since theywere eight and nine years old. Their first date was No-vember second, engaged December twenty first and mar-ried on July sixteenth. They have been married for fiftyeight years! Congratulations you two! They have two daughters, Sandra and Diane. They also havefour grandkids. Chad who is twenty nine, Kyle is twenty seven, George is nineteen and Caroline issixteen.Don served four years in the Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed on a SS409 Subma-rine. Don retired as a Tool and Dye Maker. He had one brother too. Don enjoys gardening, reading,camping, walking and fishing.Before Betty was married she worked at a store which sold everything from farming products tohome stuff. She has also sold Avon and was a para-educator with Puyallup school for twenty sevenyears. She was a Girl Scout leader for five years too. She enjoys all kinds of crafts, camping, gar-dening, cooking and walking. Betty came from a family of twelve kids. She was number eleven.She remembers having a lot of wonderful times with a big family. Today she enjoys the time withher family, grandkids and always looks forward to having lute fish during the Christmas holidayseason.The Blomquist have enjoyed traveling. They have made two cruises to the Caribbean and onethrough the Panama Canal. They made many trips to Minnesota. Along the way they enjoyed sidetrips to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer’s last stand, liked going through the caves, YellowstoneGlacier, and going along Canada to Banff. They had fun making trips to Reno and Las Vegas too.They made many camping trips with their kids where they loved the ocean and mountains. Theyalso went every year for eighteen years going to Yuma, Arizona in their motor home which hadeverything they needed and was also solar powered. They camped out in the desert with a lot ofpeople from all over the United States and Canada.Betty and Don have been coming to our Center for three years now. They enjoy our mealsite andthe fellowship with all their friends here at MCCC. We are blessed to know you both and alwaysglad to have you guys as part of our family!

Winter Weather Closure PolicyWe at MCCC want all of our clients to be safe. Ifthe Puyallup School District determines the roadconditions to be hazardous enough to be closed,due to winter weather, then MCCC will be closedas well. You can find out the school closure informationon local television news channels or on local radio stations. Butif you are still in doubt about an activity, you can call us at (253)531-8412; our voicemail will be updated daily as needed toindicate a closure, or if specific activities are canceled. Pleasedrive carefully and stay safe and warm this winter.

We are in the process of recruiting new Advisory Board members, and MCCC NEEDS YOU. Our AdvisoryBoard provides insight and input to our Board of Director’s at our monthly board meetings, to help ensurethat our clients needs are being identified and met. Ideally, we would like to have at least one volunteerAdvisory Board member from EACH of our programs at MCCC.

Advisory Board members are non-voting positions, and support our Board of Director’s by attending andsharing idea’s at the monthly board meetings, which typically last around 1.5 to 2 hours, on the third Fridayof each month. Participating in our different committees is optional.
