1G CHUMASH & 5G PURIM PLAYS & CARNIVAL

Dear Parents, Much simcha permeated YBH during the month of Adar, as is

clearly reflected in the joyous faces of our talmidos. A special Yasher Koach to Morahs Gold and Weinberger for

providing the fi h grade girls the opportunity to shine in song and drama through an entertaining presenta on of the

Purim story. The words of the Megillah truly came alive! Thank you to our crea ve Purim carnival commi ee;

Peri Davis, Chana Suri Man cof, Leora Shulman, Shoshana Pi nsky, Maayan Sommer and Yonina Lazarus, for a fun

filled carnival, which several YBH alumni came to join. Mazal tov to Kitah Alef on receiving their Chumashim!

How appropriate a celebra on during this month of simcha. On Presidents’ Day, the middle school girls enjoyed an upli ing morning of learning with their mothers. The

concept of tefillah was explored through song, learning, a crea ve ac vity and highlighted by an opening message from

Rabbi Leiner and our guest speaker, Mrs. Tova Plotkin. To reinforce the message of the morning, “recipe” books of

inspira onal quotes were designed and distributed as mementos to all the par cipants.

Thank you, Mrs. Elana Greenspan and Mrs. Danielle Amster for inspiring us through music.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Mrs. Chana Frumit Stern, Asst. Principal, Girls’ Division

A Peek                    Into Our Week:  Mrs. Weldler’s Third Grade Class: We have transi oned so gradually from mul plica on to division, that most of the girls were “doing” division before they even realized what division was. The girls have recently been working on algebraic mul plica on by solving problems like 4 x a =36. Iden fying the miss‐ing factor helped the students understand the rela on‐ship between mul plica on and division. The girls have been independently solving division problems with counters and whiteboards, and have learned to dis n‐guish between problems that require a number of groups and problems that require the number of items in the groups. The manipula ves have been very helpful in making those discoveries. The girls have even begun solving word problems using algebraic mul plica on or division, which are actually two sides of the same coin.

Morah Bechhofer’s Kitah Beis: In preparing for Purim, our class taught the first grade classes about the arbah mitzvos of Purim. The girls first worked so nicely together in groups, learning about each mitzvah. Then each group designed a poster displaying the informa on, which they presented to the first grade girls, as they taught each mitzvah. They will make amazing morahs!

ECD HIGHLIGHTS Morah Rennert’s Pre1A students performed

amazing circus acts in honor of Purim. A fun me was had by all!

Mrs. Aisenman’s Fourth Grade Class: The girls have been working very hard on their own crea ve stories. During the next few weeks they will con nue to devel‐op the characters, se ng, and plot of their story. This will be followed by iden fying the conclusion and then wri ng their first dra . The wri ng stage has many steps including peer edit, second dra , review with the teacher, then final dra and publishing. The girls are anxiously wai ng for the publish‐ing stage where they actually write their story in a book and illustrate it. In Math, we learned mul plica on by 2‐digit num‐bers, long division and are star ng our unit on frac ons. We have also been visi ng the computer lab to prac ce our math facts, while learning how to use the computer keyboard and mouse. In Science, we are con nuing to learn about the solar system and are fortunate to have Rabbi Wieder as our guide. We have learned the order of the planets and interes ng facts about each planet. In Social Studies, we have been learning about early se lers, the Lenape Indians and life in New Jersey. The girls compared their lives to the way the Lenapes lived. They are now working in groups building a Lenape Village including the types of houses they lived in, foods they ate (plants and animals they hunted for) and clothing they wore. Morah Moller’s Kitah Zayin: We enjoyed a siyum celebra ng comple ng Parshas Shelach, when we baked challah, enjoyed treats, heard a d’var Torah from Tirtza Devora Rosenthal and played games created by Mimi Yamnik, Basya Ochs, Elisheva Greenberger, Devora Mintz and Daniela Hahn. A great me was had by all!

Middle School girls signed up for voluntary weekly advanced Torah classes with Rabbi Bechhofer. The focus each week is on the parsha and/or on inyana d'yoma. The first lesson centered on Haman and Hamelech in the Megillah and why they have the same gematria (95).
