This month’s cover photo contest winner: Kelly Smith

I am ready to get it kicked off to a great start. I hope you are, as well. We will be working on more editorial to keep you informed of what is going on in the community and nearby. Any suggestions you may have, are always welcome. We think of many things, however, we cannot think of everything. Your participation with articles, editorial ideas, event notices, school news, scout news, charities, and lots of pictures are what make your newsletter the best.

We really enjoyed all of the entries that came in for the Christmas Coloring Contest. There sure are a lot of talented children in this community. Can you imagine how hard it was to pick just one? You would not want that job. If you have a child who entered, please let them know that their drawing was viewed

and we thought they did an excellent job. The winner’s picture is displayed inside, along with four runner up pictures. Again, many thanks to our young artists.

As you know, next month is already Valentine’s Day. I have a wonderful idea. Send in a “special message” for a loved one and we will post it in the February issue. 30 words or less please. There will be a page dedicated to these messages and your “special someone” will be looking to see if you included them. Email messages to [email protected] and make sure to state your name, community, and the message.

Happy New Year! May it be the best year ever for you!

A New BuildiNg iN 2013 Our new multi-purpose building should be under construction soon and completed well before the swim season! This structure will house the CDD office, fitness room (14 feet longer than our current fitness center), and lounge area. It will be built on next to the original Clubhouse. The current fitness center will include the racquetball court, and 2 activity rooms. These rooms will be used for classes (yoga, jazzercise, etc), meetings, or party rooms. We hope to include a game area for activities such as Ping-Pong.

Santa’s Visit! Santa paid an early visit to the Meadow Pointe 1 clubhouse much to the delight of many young residents! For those who had their picture taken with Santa, watch for a link to the Santa pictures on our website at www.meadowpointecdd.com. Many thanks to the MP1 Community Council volunteers who made this event fun for all!

Thank You MP1 Elves!

Holiday Decorations We would like to extend a special thanks to all those who helped decorate our MP1 main entrances! Dennis Costa of the Community Council, along with Mike Smith, Errick Egland, Chris Elam, Eric Strickland, Justin Franke, Jason Metz and Ken Chase were instrumental in making our Meadow Pointe entrances (Bruce B. Downs Blvd, and Aronwood) shine for the holiday season. Stephanie Costa, Alicia Sergent, and Marcia Dunn did wonders with the wreaths for all of our entrances!

Congratulations Arbors Village! The votes are in, and the winner of the Best Decorated MP1 village entrance is the Arbors! The CDD provides the wreaths each year, and the rest is up to the residents and the Community Council. Thank you to everyone who helped make our community shine!!

this month Dr. Brian Wells and his staff will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the open-

ing of the Wells Endodontics offices in Wesley Chapel. The construction of this state-of-the-art facility, custom built to Dr. Wells’ exact specifications, started before either “The Shops at Wiregrass” or “The Grove” opened their doors for business.

All four of Wells Endodontics’ open-plan operatories are fully equipped with soothing massage chairs, indirect lighting, a relaxing view of conservation land, nitrous oxide, electric high-speed hand pieces, microscopes with integrated digital cameras, ultrasonics and digital x-ray machines. Dr. Wells, a Harvard-trained dentist who earned his Endodontic Certificate at Tufts University in Boston, specializes in doing what endodonists do: root canals. As “your root canal specialist”, Dr. Wells and his staff leave no stone

unturned when it comes to patient care, comfort and satisfaction.

Wells Endodontics’recent acquisition of the CS 9000 3D Extraoral Imaging System is only the latest example of what that means. This breakthrough technology provides unprecedented 3D views of the oral cavity, enabling Dr. Wells to make more informed diagnoses. Because these incredibly sharp, fully manipulable, 3D images are available within minutes, Dr. Wells is now able to perform a wider range of diagnoses and treatments in the office. This helps reduce multiple visits and rescheduling which saves time for both the doctor and the patient, making treatment more efficient and, therefore, more affordable.

Dr. Wells and his caring staff understand and fully appreciate that finding yourself in need of a root canal is NOT where you would

choose to be! When the time comes, however, just remember that a visit to “your root canal specialist” RELIEVES you of your pain; it does not CAUSE it! That fact is demonstrated everyday by the experiences of Dr. Wells’ patients. Actual patient comments :

“As a physician myself, I can say that Dr. Wells’ office is run as all of us in the medical field should be running our practices, with efficiency, caring, compassion, and the highest level of professionalism.”

“He allowed me to sit with my daughter throughout the procedure to

make us both feel more comfortable. He is beyond awesome!”

“Being treated by Dr. Wells was a delight.”

We do our best to accommodate emergencies immediately and leave room to accept emergency patients on short notice five days a week. v

In this busy life we all have, you might not have seen the articles in the paper regard-ing the proposed opening of Mansfield Blvd

to Kinnen Blvd. If you don’t know what I am talking about, it’s the dead end at the south end of Mansfield that will allow you to get to Cross Creek without going to BBD. Great! But at whose expense? This will allow all the traffic from Hillsborough to travel on Mansfield to connect to SR56. Great!

Your CDD Board has opposed this from square one. Mansfield is a two lane road and has 5 gated villages opening up onto it. Also a shopping cen-ter, Sand Pine ES, a preschool, a middle school, a high school and soon a jr. college. Now they want to give access to Hillsbourgh to add extra traffic to this road. This is being done because a community on their side can’t build any more houses till the road opens as per Pasco County asst. county attorney.

We were promised by our Commissioners and county staff that this would NEVER happen. Our own district commissioner Pat Mulinari in an article a month ago said “Its time to open the road”. So what if it’s in our neighborhood. She doesn’t live here and it’s only going to inconve-nience some people. Well that some people are you, in MPII and Meadow Pointe 1. III & IV also. They now say that the commissioners are swinging towards doing this. Some people feel that we have to be nice to the board for they are our own. Are they going to attend the funerals that the increase in traffic is sure to bring with our residents trying to get out of their own vil-lages?

We were asked to vote for a penny for Pasco for road repair, are they going to maintain the road better than it has been in the past? At one point someone had the brilliant idea of claiming eminent domain which gives them the right to take away land from the homes on Mansfield to widen the road. Do you want to see 40 foot

tractor trailers and other commercial vehicles heading from 56 to cross creek or construction vehicles with materials so they can build the NEW homes in another county? How does that help out our tax base? For the few of us that would benefit from this short cut, I am sorry for the inconvenience that this might cause you, but a few cannot inconvenience the many.

We must stick together. We fought and won the putting of a gas station where CVS is. Who wanted all the extra traffic and tanker trucks coming this far into a residential community? We stuck together and kept Walgreens from putting in another entrance to their store to avoid a most serious traffic situation. The power of people will prevail if we stick together.

I have included the names, email addresses and office numbers of the Pasco county commis-sioners. If every one of us calls and emails these people they are going to get the message that we are a stick together community and nobody from Hillsborough County and a developer is going to push us, Meadow Pointe, around.

A copy of the two articles and my reply to the Pasco county board is available at all clubhouses. Please stop by and get a copy and pick up the phone and email our board.

Someone brought up the question, why do we need a resident’s council? Anybody that has a question can come to the CDD Board Meeting (1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month/6:30pm) where there will be an opportunity to ask questions.

To me a Resident’s Council allows the residents to sit and talk about any concerns/problems and maybe help each other out. There is usually a member of the CDD available to answer any questions and bring concerns back to the Board.

A resident’s council could organize events in the community, which the CDD by law cannot. Fundraisers for these events could sponsor additional events and hopefully bring this community back to a cohesive state.

If you would like to represent your village at the Resident’s Council, please call the clubhouse at 991-5016 and speak with Sheila. Don’t sit and wait for someone else to do it. Participate and let’s get it going.

- renee Glassman MPII Supervisor

RemindeR to ResidentsWhen painting or making additions to your house or property be sure to submit appropriate paperwork through our Architectural Review Process. This process is in place so each residence will adhere to guidelines set forth in our Deed Restrictions. Villages affected by these guidelines are Morningside, Deer Run, Manor Isle, Wrencrest, Glenham, Iverson, Colehaven. All other villages refer to your HOA.

In an effort to ease the process of painting your house the Board has approved pre-selected color schemes that residents can choose from. The process has been streamlined as so…

1. Select a pre-approved Scheme 2. File Paperwork.

3. At this point you may begin painting.

4. CDD follows up to make sure pre-approved scheme has been used. Failure to do so or deviating from paperwork could result in legal action.

After a wonderful Holiday season, I would like to thank those residents who volunteered to decorate the Village Entrances. This year marked an increase from last year in resident participation. Once again thank you for your support of the community.

I also want to thank all the people who donated items for the New Jersey family affected by

Hurricane Sandy. We have had a deluge of items covering all aspects of their needs.

By the time you receive this, our Pool Project should be completed. We look forward to all the residents throughout the Meadow Pointe Community checking out our renovations & utilizing our updated facilities.

After undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating the hospital

can meet and exceed nationally developed standards for stroke care, Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel has earned certification as a Primary Stroke Center.

The certification means the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel stroke response staff are following the best methods to fast-track patients suspected of stroke so that doctors can begin brain-saving treatments immediately. Research has shown that stroke patients treated at

F a S tPrimary Stroke Centers have better outcomes. This is the result of stroke centers using scientifically proven, evidence-based methods to guide the treatment of their stroke patients. At Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, every stroke patient gets a CT scan of the brain and laboratory tests as soon as they arrive at the hospital so doctors may determine what kind of stroke the patient is having. “The hospital has the only 128 slice CT’s in Tampa Bay (one of which is exclusively dedicated to the emergency room) providing faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment for stroke patients,” says Michael Longley, MD, emergency room physician. Each year about 795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke, which is the nation’s third leading cause of death. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and someone dies of a stroke every 3.1 minutes. Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the

United States, with about 4.7 million stroke survivors alive today.Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on the recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements and guidelines for stroke care. Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel wants people to know the warning signs of a stroke and what to do. A good way to remember the warning signs of stroke is FAST.

A revolutionary new technology-driven orthodontic treatment

called SureSmile® helps straighten children, teenage and adult teeth in nearly half the time. In New Tampa and South Tampa, Dr. Mark S. Farina, a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics from Farina Orthodontics, has been treating patients with the new technology of

Sure Smile for the past 3 years with outstanding results.

SureSmile® is the hi-tech option for teens and adults with busy lifestyles who don’t have the time for frequent office visits. In addition to significantly reducing the length of time a patient has to wear braces, the SureSmile® system reduces overall patient discomfort

by decreasing the number of wire changes, adjustments and office visits. SureSmile is able to achieve these results by combining 3 – D diagnostic imaging with computerized treatment plan modeling, and robotic archwire bending. If you want to wear braces for less time, 12 to 16 months instead

of two years… then visit Farina Orthodontics for a complimentary consultation. LIVE. LOVE. SMILE. v

Walking through the front gates and gazing down the long sandy path, you

breathe in the refreshing peace and love that surrounds you. On the left is a young colt and his mom who were rescued a few weeks ago. Both of them now have a large pasture in which to roam and graze on hay. Sunny is spunky and always ready to play. Mommy Angel is gentle and knows that she and her babies are in a safe, loving place. RVR Horse Rescue has a team of volunteers who rescue abused and neglected horses so they can rehabilitate them and find loving homes for them. RVR rescues anywhere from two to five horses a month from deplorable conditions. Horses have been rescued from small chicken coops, or a crowded room full of barbed wire. Some horses have been dumped by the side of the road, so hungry they can barely walk. Another had been chained up in a sand pit with no human or animal contact. Then there was the heart-wrenching situation last summer where starved ponies were left to die. In situations like this, RVR steps in and either rehabilitates these hurt, neglected animals or at the very least gives them love in their last moments of life, allowing these animals to die with dignity. One of the starved ponies did pass away, but his fellow ponies survived and have now been adopted to good homes.

RVR, located on a forty-acre farm in Riverview, is a place of love and trust. “I have been volunteering there since last June. I, still to this day, am amazed at how the abused, starved and neglected horses are able give so much love back to the people around them,” said Karen Pagliro. “These divine creatures have been put through so much, yet they’re some of the most grateful and affectionate animals I have ever encountered. Not only do the horses gain a positive, supportive home, but I get to bring home the love these animals share with me.”

RVR is a non-profit organization and is always in need of volunteers and donations. Please visit the RVR website and check out the story about Kimie. You will be taken on a journey of horror, hope and amazing love! www.rvrhorserescue.com
