Preactive Adjective — take-charge, energetic, driven, bold, dynamic The 2011 MCMC Conference finds us in an age of unprecedented, rapidly accelerating change. It’s too late for proactive: we need to become preactive.

The dictionary defines proactive as being “take-charge, energetic, driven, bold, dynamic.” We all know the drill. Don’t wait, do something NOW – take action! But, things are changing so fast that it is easy to be doing something that doesn’t need to be done. How do we know the action to take is the right action? Being proactive is all about solving today’s problems before they grow worse. This is no longer good enough. We need to solve tomorrow’s problems – the ones that are predictable – and solve them BEFORE they happen.

To be preactive is to anticipate the future events and take positive action to meet those needs.

Stop thinking of change as disruptive. Shift from proactive to preactive, from reaction to anticipation. Rather than live in constant crisis management, take initiative. Become an opportunity manager. If you become preactive, you are in opportunity mode and you are looking at problems before they oc-cur. Instead of reacting to change from the outside in, you can create change from the inside out. Purposeful. Constructive. Inside-out change that directs your future.

So take the next few days and immerse yourself in the sessions and workshops at the conference. Find the solutions to the problems that you are in a unique position to see coming in the near future. Then go back and put these solutions into action. Be preactive!

The current leadership and committee members have donated much of their time and we would like you, the conference attendee, to get involved. This documentation is typically gathered at the end of a project and copied from approved submittals, boxed, and delivered two years after beneficial occupancy. There are large costs associated with this process. The Construction and Operations Building information exchange (COBie) is an information exchange format for easily capturing and delivering life-cycle information to the facility manag-ers. In this approach, the information is added as it is created during design, construction and commissioning. . This presentation will contain a brief overview of CO-Bie, how to provide COBie deliverables, information on current COBie pilots, and give an update on vendor implementations of the COBie standard. The presentation will cover the current state-of-the-art in data sources such as terrestrial static, terrestrial mobile and airborne laser scanning. Designing with Missouri DOT’s Roadway Designer ................................................................... 1:00—3:15 Presented by Kevin Vollett and Bill Politte, Missouri DOT This course introduces the user to the workflow for utilizing the GEOPAK 3D model based design tools known as Roadway Designer. The workflow includes import-ing GEOPAK data and basic template creation using the MoDOT standard template library. Upon completion, attendees will be able to set up a GEOPAK Roadway Designer Project, import GEOPAK TIN’s and geometry, plan graphics, understand smart updates, create simple templates using MoDOT’s standard library, create simple corridor surfaces, and create GEOPAK cross sections.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS / SPEAKERS Kirk Reh— Connect Integration—Chairperson Kirk started Connect Integration in 2003 to provide training and CADD consulting services for MicroStation and GEOPAK users in the Kansas City area. He is a civil engineering graduate from the University of Kansas with over 20 years of transportation con-struction management, design and CADD management experi-ence. Through Connect Integration, Kirk helps organizations develop and implement best practices that improve the effective-ness of civil project teams.

Nathan Good - HNTB—Vice Chairperson Nathan is a Senior CADD Application Specialist supporting Bentley platform products. Prior to working in CADD administra-tion he spent 4 years as a highway technician working on wide range of projects. He has been a TMC member for 9 years and a MCMC committee member for 5 and is currently serving as Vice‐Chair.

Mike Remboldt - Secretary Mike has worked with CAD for 22 years, MicroStation and its' predecessor IGDS. He also drafted the hard way for 5 years, in the field and office, with CP Engineers. He currently is providing CAD support, and has been involved in the user group since it's forming.

Frank Nelson — Burns & McDonnell—Treasurer Frank has over 35 years of professional experience including all phases of civil and water projects. In present position with Burns & McDonnell for the last 12 years, using MicroStation and GEOPAK to design streets, highways, roadways and under-ground electrical transmission conduits in Connecticut. He has been a member of TMCMC for 10 years.

Kevin van Haaren—HNTB— Committee Member / Web Master Kevin has worked as HNTB for the past 10 years, with more than 18 years of industry experience. He currently is the corporate ProjectWise Administrator. He's been working with MicroStation products for over 15 years, and has been the MCMC webmaster for 6 years.

Greg Roberts — The HNTB Companies — Committee Member and Advisor Greg is the CADD Platform Manager for HNTB’s Incubation Center and is responsible for Bentley product deployments and support firm wide. He has over 20 years of experience support-ing, programming and designing with MicroStation as well as other products. Greg moved to Kansas City in 2000 and immedi-ately joined the MCMC Committee which he has enjoyed.

David Haskin - Burns & McDonnell David is a Senior Applications Specialist with Burns & McDonnell. He is responsible for maintaining their Bentley workspace, general application support, licensing, software packaging and training. He is happily married with “5” calling him dad; he enjoys computers, movies and the great outdoors.

Shawn Foster - Jacobs Global Building —Advisor and Committee Member Shawn is the director of Project Technology for the Architectural/Engineering Practice of Jacobs Global Buildings, North America. He has been working with many Design Technology solutions for over 20 years. He is a charter member of the TMC and one of the founders of MCMC.

Jack Riley—HNTB—Committee Member A graduate of Central Missouri State University in 2004, Jack is currently CADD Application Specialist for HNTB, supporting MicroStation and InterPlot. Previously, he was a highway techni-cian for 4 years, also at HNTB.

Rex Kraus—Kansas DOT—Committee Member Rex has 15 years of experience supporting, programming and designing with MicroStation and GEOPAK. He currently is an Engineering Technician Specialist for KDOT Bureau of Design Road Section as a member of the CAD Support Staff. Rex has been a member of the MCMC User group since it started and is in his first year as a committee member.

Mark Plummer— HNTB —Committee Member Mark is currently a Senior Technician with HNTB. He has 15 years experience in the civil design field using MicroStation and GEOPAK on projects that include bridges, highways, municipal streets and site development.

Dan Wright—TranSystems Dan is currently a Senior Designer and Project Manager for the Kansas City office. His experience includes more than 33 years as a member of the TranSystems site/utilities team and CADD Manager for the Kansas City office. As a CADD manager, Dan’s responsibilities included training, technical, and administrative

Kim Jackson—Mason and Hanger Kim is currently a Sr. Civil Engineer for the Mason & Hanger Overland Park office. Her experience includes over 15 years in site development as well as transportation design. She has a Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University (1995) and a Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas (2009). Kim is a registered professional engineer as well as a LEED AP BD+C. Sara Cline—Black & Veatch Sara is currently an Engineering Technician with Black & Veatch - Federal Services. Her experience includes 4 years at an MEP firm, 10 years in Civil working on various highways, race tracks and Federal projects, and currently doing Electrical, Life Safety and Structural on Federal projects. Sara has been a TMC member for 10 years and a committee member for one.

Robert Eckdahl—TranSystems Robert Eckdahl is the Design Support Services Manager at TranSystems Corporation. His team is responsible to provide application development, implementation, support and licensing for the company’s operational areas.

SPEAKERS Steve Hutsell—US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle Steve is the Chief of the Geospatial Section for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, which supports CAD, Sur-vey, ProjectWise, BIM and GIS requirements and initiatives. He is the lead on the BIM Contract Language development team for civil and military projects with the contract language also being contributed toward the National BIM Standard initiative. . He has a degree in Architectural Engineering from The University of Texas in 1985.

Jeanne Aarhus—Aarhus Associates Jeanne is known for keeping her training sessions fast-moving and fun. She is a nationally-known speaker and expert in CAD and presents seminars and workshops on CAD productivity for managers and users in both corporations and colleges. She has more than 25+ years of experience in production drafting, user support, standards coordination, programming, and training in various CAD applications. Jeanne is an independent consultant offering training and implementation services and is certified in several Bentley and other CAD products. She is a popular speaker at many conference events.

Kristi Patterson—tvs design Kristi is the Manager of Information Technology for tvsdesign, an architecture and interior design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. She has worked with, supported and administered many CAD and BIM applications during her 16 year career in the industry. She has been a speaker at many Bentley User Group confer-ences on various topics including Generative Components, visualization, productivity tips and workspace administration. She is the Chair of MMAC – The MicroStation Metro Atlanta Commu-nity.

Lauren Collier—SSOE Group Lauren serves as a BIM/CAD Technical Specialist at SSOE Group. In her role, her focus is on BIM Projects, Bentley Architec-ture/MicroStation, parametric and visualization. She has experi-ence in the healthcare/recreational design area performing architectural design. Lauren received her Master of Architecture degree from Savannah College of Art and Design, and a Bache-lor of Art and Architecture degree from Miami University. She has been a Bentley AUC Council member for the last several years.

Kevin Vollet—MoDOT Kevin is a CADD Support Analyst for the Missouri Department of Transportation. Kevin graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineer-ing. Kevin has worked for MoDOT since July of 1993 and has worked in the Bridge, Construction, and Design Division. Kevin has been working in the CADD Support Center located in Jeffer-son City, supporting and developing GEOPAK training for Design, Construction and Survey personnel for the past ten years.

Bill Politte—MoDOT Bill is a CADD Support Analyst for the Missouri Department of Transportation, and has worked for the Design Division since 1997. His first two years with the department were in plans production of design in the St. Louis District. He has been working in the CADD Support Center located in Jefferson City, supporting and developing training for the Design, Construction and Survey divisions in regards to MicroStation and GEOPAK for the past 11 years.

Stephen Spangler—US Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC Steve has been with the CAD/BIM Technology Center located at ERDC-ITL in Vicksburg, MS almost from its inception in 1992. Since joining the Center, Stephen has been involved with many of its high profile projects, such as the A/E/C CAD Standard, the CAD Details Library, and the BIM Roadmap. Stephen is also involved with Toastmasters, and in 2010 was awarded its highest level - Distin-guished Toastmaster. He also recently got his LEED APs in both Building Design & Construction and Operations & Maintenance.

Beth Brucker—US Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC Beth Brucker is a research architect and project manager at the Engineer Research and Development Center’s Construction Engi-neering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) in Champaign, Illinois. She is on the USACE ERDC BIM Team and is one of the primary authors of the USACE BIM Roadmap. She works virtually with the ERDC’s CAD/BIM Technology Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi and the USACE BIM Sub Communities of Practice (CoP) in implement-ing the different phases of the USACE BIM Roadmap.

Roger Fujan—US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha Roger Fujan has been a CAD and BIM manager for both the Corps and private industry since 1999. As the TriService Workspace Manager, Roger is responsible for furthering the development and integration of the Workspace.

David Cusano—SSOE Group David serves as a BIM/CAD Technical Specialist at SSOE Group. His focus is on BIM Projects, Bentley Mechanical/Electrical/Plant software, and energy analysis and simulation. David joined SSOE in 2001 as a mechanical engineer for the Facilities mechanical team. David received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He became a LEED AP BD&C in August of 2009.

Mark Lemieux – HNTB Mark is a registered professional engineer residing in Central Florida. He provides InRoads training and support for HNTB based out of their nearby Kansas City office headquarters.

David Pratt- LoraxPro David Pratt is an entrepreneur, business person, advocate and loyal Kool-Aid drinker. He has been involved in the green building industry since 2002. His current project has led to the creation of LoraxPro, a web-based Software as a Service (Saas) designed to automate, simplify and project manage LEED certification projects. LoraxPro has worked directly with Bentley Systems to develop AECOsim: Compliance Manager;a fully functioning version to support all Bentley customers pursuing LEED certification projects.

Paul DiGiacobbe—HNTB Mr. DiGiacobbe is an Associate Vice President and the National Data Acquisition Manager at HNTB. He is a civil engineer and graduate of Villanova University; He is also a registered professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.

Chris Bober Chris has been with Bentley Systems Incorporated for 14 years. He is currently responsi-ble for managing the MicroStation product line business at Bentley which includes work-ing with a team of product managers in defining the strategic direction and product priorities for Bentley’s flagship product MicroStation, as well as MicroStation PowerDraft and Generative Components

Corey Johnson Corey worked 12 years in the roadway design and site development industry as a Lead Engineering Technician and CAD Manager. In 2008, Corey was employed by Bentley Systems. With 15 years experience, Corey is providing technical expertise for the sales organizations for Bentley Civil products. He now serves as a Solutions Engineer for Transportation and Local Infrastructure Group.

Derricke Gray Derricke Gray has been involved in Civil Engineering and CADD for 24 years. After graduating in 1986 from Florida State University with a BS in Mathematics, he worked with GEOPAK and Bentley products in the consulting industry for several years before joining the GEOPAK / Bentley team over 13 years ago. In addition to certification, train-ing and support services, he has managed the implementation of GEOPAK into several states. He now serves as the Product Manager for GEOPAK.

Joel Rosenbaum Joel has over 20 years of experience in the Architectural/Engineering field utilizing MicroStation Building Products. Joel is a Senior Application Engineer with Bentley Systems Building Sales Group and is responsible for demonstrations, education and support of Bentley’s Building Products

John Simmons John is Director of ProjectWise Content Publishing for Bentley Systems Inc. John’s career spans over 25 years in addressing the software publishing needs of the AEC/GIS communities. John has an extensive background in software development, design, and product management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with honors from the University of Kentucky.

John Frampton John is a MicroStation Product Manager and works with AEC focused users worldwide to bring functionality to market that assists their workflows. He worked as an instructor at the corporate level and trained user at some of the top ENR 500 firms. With his role as a product manager John continues to travel and meet with users to understand their workflow and industry trends that are occurring.

Mark Hattersley Mark Hattersley is a Senior Product Manager at Bentley Systems focusing on Project-Wise. He joined Bentley Systems in 2004 and is responsible for ProjectWise’s integra-tion with applications, and the development of cloud services. In his time working with ProjectWise he has been responsible for the design of several important products and features, and created implementation, training, and technical marketing best practices and materials. Mark has a B.S. in Geology from Bloomsburg University and a M.S in Geology from Bowling Green. Rob Riley Rob is a Virtual Construction Specialist focusing on the Building Design Suite of prod-ucts. Rob has been with Bentley almost 11 years, providing demonstrations, training and implementation using the Building Suite of applications. A graduate of Pittsburgh Techni-cal Institute, Rob has over 20 year of experience in the Architectural/Engineering and Construction field applying Bentley solutions.

Bob Rolle, P.E. A registered professional engineer in Kansas, Bob worked for 4 years with the Kansas Department or Transportation as a project engineer. In 1992 Bob started work with a consultant firm as Project Design Engineer. Later Bob was assigned the Design Support Systems Engineer position focusing on providing Civil and Architectural resources, support, and training for the entire corporation. He is now a member of the Bentley team as an Application Engineer for the Transportation & Local Infrastructure group.

Gary Scerni, Gary has been working with the US Army Corp of Engineers, consulting on ProjectWise server configuration design and supporting engineering CAD applications. Most recently, he oversees the USACE ProjectWise configurations to ensure a consistent managed environment across all districts. . Gary’s background comprises areas of technical con-sulting, sales, training, product implementation, server systems design and support, along with networking, database, routing, and firewall configuration.

Travis Wollet Travis is a Senior BIM Consultant for Bentley Professional Services and earned both under-graduate and graduate degrees in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. With five years of service in the private-sector as an architectural designer he joined Bentley in 2008. He is currently responsible for compiling and configuring the Tri-Services Workspace, and providing primary BIM support to the US Army Corps Engineers Districts.

Bill McNamara Bill has worked in and around the construction industry for 25 + years, He is a Sr. Systems Consultant for Bentley Systems Government Center of Excellence. Bill's responsibilities include developing and deploying BIM solutions. He has lead such projects as the USACE workspace development resource project, CObie technology Demonstration, Pentagon Renovation, BIM workshops program, and many more. Bill holds a BS degree in Architecture from NY Inst. Tech. and an AS degree in Underwater Tech. from Florida Inst. Tech.

Jerry Flynn Jerry Flynn is a Senior Product Manager at Bentley Systems and manages the Visualization Team with over 24 years visualization experience and 30 years of experience working with 3d computer models. As a Design Engineer with Planning Research Corporation (PRC) at the Kennedy Space Center, Jerry designed launch support equipment and access platforms for the Space Shuttle. Jerry is the author of the first Bentley Institute Press book "Rendering with MicroStation" and also Bentley Institute’s “Animating with MicroStation” and “Rendering for Building Design” courses.

Bobby Mullenax Bobby is a Senior ProjectWise Consultant for Bentley Systems professional Service Platform Group. Bob's responsibilities include developing and deploying custom ProjectWise implemen-tations for the Public and private sector. In this role he has been the lead for numerous USACE District ProjectWise Deployments, numerous State DOT ProjectWise Deployments and numer-ous private Consulting firm ProjectWise Deployments. Bob holds a BS degree in Business Information Systems, AS degree General Studies in Engineering and an AS in Architectural CADD.

Jim Barr Jim has over 20 years of software design and development experience – with an emphasis on the design and development of structural engineering software. He has focused on software tools for analysis, design, and documentation of structural engineering projects for major infra-structure projects and some of the world’s most recognized buildings. He also has 5 years structural analysis experience working on several mid-rise buildings.

Ted was exposed to LIDAR technology at Schwartz Electro Optics serving as marketing/sales and program manager. Ted founded Riegl USA in 1993 and has been activiely involved with lidar and laser scanning technology for 17 years, and founded Certainty 3D, a company focused on software and process solutions for the laser scanning industry.
