    This guide is designed for surveying or civil engineering professionals who understand their disciplines data collection, design or development process.It is recommended that you have:

    MicroStation or AutoCAD experience

    3D CAD experience

    A working knowledge of the Microsoft operating system(s)

    Licensed copies of MicroStation or AutoCAD and a licensed copy of the InRoads product (if applicable) for your use

    Processes in This Guide

    This manual provides common workflows to accomplish a variety of tasks. The procedures described in this guide should not be construed as the single solution to any given task. MicroStation and InRoads software provide comprehensive tools to address a wide range of drafting and civil engineering tasks. Alternate workflows, tools, and methods should also be explored.

    Using This Guide

    The lessons in this guide are designed to be completed in sequence. However, if the user is familiar with the concepts and procedures in a given lesson, lab files are provided to move to the next lesson of interest.

    The CD attached to the inside of the back cover of this guide contains all the resources and drawings required to complete the exercises in this guide. Additionally, it may contain free macros and productivity tips developed by EnvisionCAD. The training data sets can also be downloaded from www.EnvisionCAD.com

    Loading Tra in ing Data

    To load the training data, simply insert the CD. An interface should open allowing the selection of the appropriate software installation. If that fails, select the setup.exe file contained on the CD.

    Files will be installed in the folder C:\EnvisionCAD\ Several sub-folders are provided for specific uses and may vary depending on the training guide:

    InRoads\ -------------------------------- Sub folders containing training data files

    InRoads\z_Resources\----------------InRoads standard data files

    EnvisionCAD\Workspace\---------- MicroStation resource files

    Welcome to our training courseware. The format is a lecture or overview followed by a set of exercises for the student to complete. Many sections provide challenge exercises and chapter review questions.

    Several conventions are used throughout this document to indicate actions to be taken or to highlight important information. The conventions are as follows:

    Item Meaning

    File > Options a command name or a file that you are to select

    Tools > Options a command path that you are to select, usually from the pull-down menus

    Key-in entering data with the keyboard

    Document name style used when referring to another document

    Note: text information about a command or process that you should pay particular attention to

    Emphasis an important word or phrase
