A big thanks to all the staff for putting together a fantastic Small Schools’ swimming carnival. Feedback has been positive and students thoroughly enjoyed the day. We wish representative students the best of luck at this week’s swimming carnival to be held Thursday in Ardlethan. The focus for schools at present is developing the 2021-2024 School Plan. I look forward to sharing this draft plan with the school community at our next P&C meeting. All feedback from parents and carers is important in finalising the direction of the school for the next four years. Thank you to all the families who were able to assist in catering at the recent clearing sale for the Currie family. Best wishes to the Currie family and thank you to everyone who was able to sup-port fundraising for our school. I am excited to announce that through application of the Regional Renewal Program, Matong Public School will be getting a sports court upgrade. This upgrade is most likely to occur where the old tennis courts are and the project should be completed before June 2022. Drew Sinnett is as our assigned school counsellor. Drew will visit our school at least two times per term. If you feel that your child should continue seeing the school counsellor or your child/ren may benefit from talking to the counsellor due to the stresses of current circumstances there is a referral attached for all families to complete. The wellbeing of our students and families are of high importance to us. I look forward to seeing many families at the Welcome BBQ to be held in Grong Grong this Monday. Many thanks, Kerri McPherson Principal

Principal’s News

Student Absences

We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers: If your child is absent from school there is a

requirement for you to provide a reasonable explanation for the absence within seven days. It is the Principal’s discretion as to whether they deem an explanation as reasona-ble. If an explanation is not received the stu-dents’ absence will automatically be recorded as unjustified. Absences include late arrivals and early departures to and from school and also require an explanation.

Absence notification methods that are ac-

ceptable are via verbal (telephone or in per-son), reply text to school mobile phone, email, written or via our Schoolstream App.

If your child is absent because of illness for

more than three consecutive days, you will be required to provide a medical certificate with your absence notification.

At times there may be a requirement for your

children to be absent for extended periods of time. If this is the case you will need to con-tact the principal and complete an applica-tion for extended leave prior to the leave being taken. It is the principal’s discretion whether this application will be approved or

P&C News

Thank you to all wonderful families of MPS for your donations or time, slices, sandwiches and support for catering for the lovely Currie family ‘s clearing sale on the weekend and the GRDC Grower Forum on Thursday. It was successful in every area. The P&C Committee are very grateful for all the hard work that was put in by a fantastic group. It helped us raise much needed funds for P&C but it also showed what a group of people can achieve. A busy last week for the P&C catering for both events that has put us in a good position so early in the year. Our catering skills went so well we have been offered another catering role towards the end of term. Along with our annual Ganmain Pie Drive, 2021 is looking a lot brighter than last. We look forward to meeting the new families to Matong Public School at the Welcome BBQ on the Monday, 22nd February at 5.30pm at the Grong Grong Park/BBQ area then followed by our 2021 P&C AGM at the Grong Grong Sports club.

School Contributions

Each year the school provides all students with their textbooks and art and craft supplies. To assist us with the cost of these items we ask that families pay a contribution of $50.00 for each student, $100.00 for two students or $120.00 for three students or more. It would be appreciated if this contribution to your child’s education be paid as soon as personal funds permit either as a whole payment or in instalments. Thank you to those families who have already made a payment. Please keep in mind these payments are voluntary contributions.

Parent Online Payments

Parent online payments can be made using either a VISA or MASTERCARD credit or debit card. It’s as simple as clicking on the 'Make a Payment' tab located in the bar at the top of the Matong Public School website page. This link takes you to the secure Westpac payment page.
