Wall of Fame This week I want to do a big shout out to the Talented Mathematics group who work with Mrs Norman every Wednesday. Last week they came to show me the math games they had created and we explored some of their mathematical thinking.

Debating On Wednesday the 18th of September, Annie Lowbridge, Valli Smith, Bethan Minor and Duke Smith went to Bateau Bay Public School to compete in the 16th round of The Premier’s Debating Challenge. The topic for this debate was that all teachers should set a research project for all kids over the school holidays. Avoca Beach debated that this change must not go forth and argued against Bateau Bay who was a very tough team to beat. Fortunatly, Avoca was too good on the day and won the debate due to their well structured arguments and relentless rebutals! The aducator spoke very highly of the Avoca Beach team saying they were very professional and one to look out for in the next round. Our students will go on to compete against Berkley Vale Public School in the quarter finals on Friday 27th September. Good Luck debaters!

Kindergarten Farm Day

Last Thursday, Kindergarten had a Farm Day Incursion to coincide with our Science unit ‘Paddock to Plate’. The

students came dressed in their best farmer outfit and had a fun-filled day.

We enjoyed a morning in the classroom making pig and sheep biscuits, cow masks and even performing a science

experiment- making butter from cream! Each class then visited the Kindifarm which was a highlight of the day. The

students were able to feed and pat a calf, lamb, sheep and goats. They then held chicks, ducks, rabbits and guinea

pigs and finished the visit with a pat of the very cute piglet. The students demonstrated responsibility and respect

and we all had a fabulous day!

Stage 3:

Legacy Species Campaign

This term, Stage 3 have been working hard to create campaigns for Taronga Zoo’s 10 legacy species. In this

campaign, they have promoted their animal by creating posters, brochures, bookmarks, movies, slideshows,

dioramas, fully illustrated picture books and even made their own wire sculptures of their animals.

The Taronga Zoo’s legacy species is a campaign run by Taronga Zoo to help endangered animals from Australia and

Sumatra, increase their numbers and thrive in their environment.

The campaign launch will be held on Tuesday 24th September in the school hall from 11:10am – 12:30pm. On the

day, you bring a coin donation which will be donated to the Taronga Zoo Legacy Species for the Wild campaign.

Many groups will be selling merchandise and even edible treats which you can purchase on the day, so remember to

bring some money if you would like to buy something from the stalls.

Our legacy is to raise awareness for these amazing creatures, so please come along and support our campaigns or

donate to Taronga zoo using this link: https://taronga.org.au/conservation-and-science/act-for-the-wild

PBL Week 10 - Fair Play This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful, responsible and perform our personal best when playing sport games at school. Students have recognised the importance of playing fair and playing to the school rules. Our school expectations require students to be responsible and always return the school balls to the correct area. Students are demonstrating respectful behaviour by sharing the space and performing their personal best by playing fair.
