    An improved entry of prime cattle saw strong demand and better prices and overall averages. Over a quarter of the cattle sold for £2/kilo and over!! Heifers outselling the steers this week with two from George Richards Farms at 213p/kg – a Limousin x and a Stabiliser x; steers to 205p/kg for a Limousin x from the same farm and all three purchased by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Top value prime was a 664kg Limousin x steer also for George Richards Farms selling at £1,315 to J.V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Leading the heifers to £1,221 was a smart Limousin x heifer from Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan bought at 209p/kg by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd (pictured).

    A similar entry to recent weeks met strong demand and firm prices across the board. Well-covered cows are selling especially well. A smart pair of Charolais cows for Diddy Farms of St. Stephen topped at 139p/kg and 137p/kg bought by David Ellis of Lelant and Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock respectively. A super Friesian average this week of 105.94p/kg and a top value of £1,089 for a huge 923kg cow at 118p from Tregarrick Farms of Helston bought by Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Heavy cows, as always from Mr. D.J. Heller of Blackwater, led the dairy averages selling at 124p/kg and 123p/kg to West Devon and David King of Exeter. A Charolais bull weighing 1201kg for Mr. B. Cowell of Wendron sold at 104p/kg and £1,249 to David Ellis.

    A lighter entry than recent weeks but continued strong trade and demand for all types across the board. Numbers are in short supply generally keeping the prices firm. Topping at £985 were a 19/22 month old Hereford-sired steer pair from Messrs. J.A.H. Wood & Son of Little Petherick who also saw a good trade for their Friesian steers selling to £855. A trio of 18 month old Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs. R.H. & L.G. Benney of Breage sold well at £895. Few heifers forward saw a top of £865 for Mr. A.E. Lawrence of Mullion with his Limousin x.

Dalgarno of Tregony saw his best-pick butchers’ quality Texel hogs reach £104.50 and another at £102.
