“The Farm Sale of the Season”
A recent farm machinery auction sale, which included an extensive fleet of immaculate tractors, combine harvester, arable farm machinery and equipment, has been dubbed by the Cornish farming fraternity as “The farm sale of the season”. Auctioneers Lodge & Thomas conducted the high profile dispersal sale on behalf of Messrs. W.S. Salmon & Sons of St. Ervan, near Wadebridge and Padstow, which took place on Saturday 6th July. The sale attracted National attention with registered bidders and purchasers travelling from as far as Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Scotland and throughout England together with a huge number of locals, swelling the estimated attendance to in excess of 700. “Genuine and immaculate” were the words used by Auctioneer Andrew Body to describe the farm machinery. “Against the growing internet sale revolution, farm sales like this demonstrate that nothing beats the buzz of the live auction to deliver market prices”. The retirement sale precedes the sale of Messrs. Salmon’s 221 acre farm which is currently being marketed by Lodge & Thomas at a guide price of £3 million.
Amongst the fleet of modern arable equipment was the star lot, a 2011 Claas Lexion 620 Combine Harvester with 18’ header which sold for £78,000, a 2014 JCB 526-56 Agri Loadall which sold for £38,000, 2011 John Deere 6630 tractors to £31,500, 2006 John Deere 6820 tractor £26,500, 2014 5F plough £7,300, 2014 Orsi hedgetrimmer £8,000, Opico grain dryer £6,200, Opico 6.3m rolls £6,500, Hardi crop sprayer £7,500, Weaving drill £4,200, Lemken cultivator £4,400. 45 acres of standing Winter Wheat was sold in two lots and averaged £405/acre.
In addition to the machinery sold on behalf of Messrs. Salmon, an excellent entry was forward from neighbours including a 2015 John Deere 6150R AQ selling for £44,400, Pichon muckspreader £13,200, McConnell hedgetrimmer £9,400, 2014 Kverneland 5F plough £12,000, New Holland BB940A square baler £9,000, Korte crimper £7,400, Bunning muckspreader £15,150.
