In this magazine cover, Katy Perry is shown in a very sexualized manner. She is shown is a very seductive way through the pose, make up and her expression. She is in the middle of the page to have all the focus on her. The rule of thirds supports this. All the writings are around her which shows that she has the importance. Even the importance of the title of the magazine is overlooked because it is shown to be behind Katy’s head. This furthermore shows that all focus is on her.

Similarly to the first slide, this magazine pulls all focus onto the Celebrity. In this instance, Trey Songz. His shirt is off to show that he is fit and that we works out.

The look on his eyes shows aggression and anger which gives the impression that he is an alpha male

This disagrees with Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze because here, Trey Songz is being sexualized though he is a man.

Once again, the title of the magazine is put behind the him because they want all focus to be out onto him.

This magazine is different form the first two. The title is shown to be in front of the figure rather than behind. Which shows that they want focus to not just be on Barrack.

Here the figure is not sexualised. Rather he is shown smiling and happy which is different from the past two who are shown serious and almost angry.

Even though the background is white and he is not shown as an alpha male, he is still shown to be very powerful through his suit.

From this we can see not, the figure does not need be sexualised and enhanced to be effective. It can be done through clever use of mise-en-scene.
