Popular technology evolves fast. A few years ago, smartphones and tablet devices were novelties. Today, it seems everyone has one. I am proud to say that CAP COM was well prepared for this evolution. Our dynamic Mobile Banking platform and an easy-to-use mobile website are

great. And, they’re just a beginning. On Page 7, you’ll see a story about Remote Deposit, which will soon let you make check deposits using your smartphone. CAP COM truly has it all, from great branch service to banking in the palm of your hand. Our good news

extends beyond Mobile Banking. On Page 9, you’ll find details of two new low-rate Home Equity Loans that are great for home improvement or lowering monthly bills by consolidating debt. CAP COM offers loans like this to help people get ahead. They are one way we live up to the credit union philosophy of people helping people. But, we don’t stop there. We also celebrate this philosophy by honoring local teens like Jared Goldsmith, a senior at Bethlehem High School. Jared recently won a Making a Difference Award for volunteer work at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany. Jared tells us on Page 2: “Volunteering at the nursing home has given me a chance to brighten the lives of nursing home residents. A small act of kindness can make a big difference.” Discover how CAP COM can make a big difference in your life. Visit, call or check out our website to discover full-service banking, great service and an institution dedicated to the Capital Region community.

Sincerely,

Paula A. Stopera President/CEO

Our annual Making a Difference Awards celebrate young Capital Region volunteers who embody the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”

Making a Difference

Haley Korn is a senior at Niskayuna High School. Among other activities, she has volunteered with the Reach Out And Read (ROAR) Program at Schenectady’s Zoller Elementary School. “When I see kids learn to read, it makes me feel like I’ve changed someone’s life for the better,” Haley said. Haley won first place and earned a $1,000 CertifiKID.*

Jared Goldsmith is a senior at Bethlehem High School. He volunteers at the Capital District Humane Association and the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany, where he assists with Thursday night bingo games. “Volunteering at the nursing home has given me a chance to brighten the lives of nursing home residents. A small act of kindness can make a big difference,” Jared said. Jared earned second place and won a $500 CertifiKID.*

Mary Bonneau is a senior at Colonie Central High School. She is a long-time volunteer with Parson’s Child and Family Center in Albany and will be making her $100 donation there. “I get along well with the kids at Parson’s. Sometimes that means just listening. When people feel that you care, they feel better about themselves and don’t feel so alone,” Mary said. Mary, who hopes to pursue a degree in nursing, earned third place and won a $300 CertifiKID.*

2013 nominations Awards are made based on nominations from family, teachers and friends. Contact Youth Program Coordinator Danielle Sprague at (518) 458-2195 ext. 3032 or [email protected] for more information on nominating a teen for our 2013 awards.

*CertifiKIDs are special 18- or 36-month savings certificates. Add money at any time and save for the future. Ask us about setting up a CertifiKID for a child or grandchild today!

Warmth of WineIn March, CAP COM was proud to continue its role as presenting sponsor of the Warmth of Wine fundraiser to benefit Colonie Senior Service Centers. The event has raised more than $200,000 over seven years to help local seniors on fixed incomes with the cost of home heating. More than 375 people, including CAP COM volunteers, gathered at The Century House to support our senior citizens.

Bowl-a-thonCAP COM staff and volunteers got their bowling shoes on to help support the Foundation’s year-round community projects. More than 200 bowlers gathered on a Sunday in March at Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy for the second year in a row. “The commitment and generosity of our staff is at the heart of all our charitable efforts. We raised nearly $4,500 and everyone had a great time,” said Foundation Administrator Theresa Petrone.
