LINDSAY ANNE ESTATES FIRE FLOW ANALYSIS
PURPOSE OF REPORT The purpose of this report is to analyze the water system and ensure that there are sufficient volumes of water at adequate pressures to satisfy maximum expected consumption plus fire flows for the proposed development. This report documents the criteria for which the water system for this site is designed to meet, the sources of information on which the analysis is based, the calculation methodology, and the results of the analysis.
PROJECT LOCATION/DESCRIPTION
The proposed development is located on Tax Lot 1300, Clackamas County Map 3 2E 18. The project site is located at 19799 Leland Road in City of Oregon City. The existing site area is approximately 6.77 acres.
REGULATORY DESIGN CRITERIA
Per Section B105.1 of the 2006 International Fire Code, the site shall provide water pressure of 20 psi or a flow rate of 1000 gpm during a fire event.
CALCULATION METHODOLOGY
A model of the proposed water system was created utilizing Bentley’s WaterCAD software.
Existing pressure and available flow were determined through field hydrant test data from an existing hydrant at the east side of Leland Road (across from 19871 Leland Road). The test indicated a static pressure of 66 psi and a residual pressure of 58 psi at flow of 1,230 gpm. This information was utilized in the WaterCAD model to simulate a connection to the existing 12” water main in Leland Road through the use of reservoir and pump nodes.
Hydrant nodes were placed throughout the WaterCAD model. The fire flow analysis parameters were set within the model to require a fire flow of 1,000 gpm with a residual system-wide pressure of at least 20 psi. The analysis is a steady state analysis since the demands are based on peak hour demands, not normal demands.
RESULTS
The results of the analysis indicate that at any of the proposed hydrant locations or junctions, the minimum fire flow is available while still providing a system-wide residual pressure of 20 psi. The flow is approximately 1,936 gpm at junction H-2, located at the intersection of proposed Lindsay Anne Lane and Cedarwood Way. This exceeds the requirements of Section B105.1 of the 2006 International Fire Code; therefore the fire flow requirements for this subdivision are met.
