IT Users Certificate

Course Code: C0270/C2810 Fees: £165 Start Date: Any time through the year Level: 1

What is the training about?This course is for anyone wanting to learn IT application skills. You will be using MS Office packages. The course will be run as a roll on/off workshop supported by professional trainers. This course is not suitable for absolute beginners.

Who should attend?No formal IT qualifications are required but employees will need to be familiar with a PC, keyboard and mouse and will need some familiarity with the MS Office applications.

Training outcomesThe course consists of a number of units, each focusing on a different software package.• Word Processing, • PowerPoint Presentations, • Excel Spreadsheets, • Security for IT Users and • Improving Productivity using IT. All courses are designed to be flexible to fit in with existing workplace commitments.

Duration23 weeks, though the hours are flexible so as to fit with your workplace schedule.

What is the training about?Delegates will explore a range of issues in digital imaging techniques such as learning how to manipulate, capture and print images.

Who should attend?Delegates will need to have a basic knowledge of using a computer.

AssessmentTo successfully complete this course delegates will be assessed via their coursework.

ProgressionDelegates who complete this can continue onto a Level 1 certificate or a full Level 2 award. Delegates who complete this qualification could progress into a junior level photo editing job role.

Flexible Training for IT

Course Code: C2702 Fees: £0 Start Date: Any time through the year Level: 2

What is the training about?This course allows employees to to gain a recognised qualification in Information Technology made up of the units that are most relevant to them and their job.

Who should attend?Though there are no formal entry requirements, employees will need to be employed either full-time or part-time in a company with fewer than 250 employees, for 8 hours or more per week and also to be aged 19 and over.

Training outcomesEmployees will cover three units:

Word processing: Helps the employee use a range of basic word processing software tools and techniques to produce appropriate, straightforward or routine documents.

Spreadsheet software: Enables employee to use a range of basic spreadsheet software tools and techniques to produce spreadsheets.

Presentation software: Provides the skills to use a range of basic presentation software tools. Employees will be able to create text based or diagram based slide shows and lecture notes.

DurationThis is an 18 week course.

AssessmentTo successfully complete this course employees will be assessed via coursework.

ProgressionOnce employees have completed this training they can consider progressing onto an Apprenticeship programme or other accredited training. Alternatively this training could support their progression/promotion at work.

Flexible Training for IT

Course Code: C2703 Fees: £0 Start Date: Any time through the year Level: 3

What is the training about?This course allows employees to gain a recognised Award in Information Technology made up of the units that are most relevant to them and their job.

Who should attend?Though there are no formal entry requirements but those wishing to attend will need to be employed either full-time or part-time in a company with less than 250 employees, for eight hours or more per week and also to be aged 19 and over.

Training outcomesEmployees will cover two units:

Word: Helps the employees use an advanced processing range of word processing software tools

and techniques to produce complex word documents using referencing features, advanced mail merge techniques and macros.

Spreadsheet: Enables employees to use a range ofsoftware advanced spreadsheet software tools

and techniques to produce complex spreadsheets using complex formulas and functions, manipulation of charts, create scenarios and macros and link worksheets and work books.

DurationThis is a 20 week course.

AssessmentTo successfully complete this course employees will be assessed via coursework and short exams.

Start ITC&G Entry Level 3 Award for IT Users

Course Code: C2885/C2887 Fees: £120 Start Date: Any time through the year Level: 3

What is the training about?This training is for those employees who wish to gain confidence using a computer and learn the skills necessary to advance to a Level 1 programme.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however delegates usually follow on from our Computing for the Absolute Beginner programme.

Training outcomesDelegates will learn the fundamentals of IT, how to create and manage your files, how to save to a particular area, you will study using word processing software to create professional looking documents, simple tasks and formulas in excel and PowerPoint presentations. Using the internet and e-mail will no longer be a mystery.

DurationThis is a 20 week course.

AssessmentThis course is assessed via examinations.

ProgressionProgression on this course is to move on to a Level 1 IT users award or certificate with the British Computer Society.

Home and Small Business Networking

Course Code: C3126 Fees: £200 Start Date: 15 September 2014 Level: 2

What is the training about?This course will provide the skills to create and maintain a home network.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements, though delegates will need a basic understanding of the Windows operating system. It is ideal for small businesses and the self employed.

Training outcomesDelegates will be able to identify the benefits of home networking and be able select appropriate hardware to create a home network. This is a course for beginners and includes step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure a wired and a wireless home network. At the end of the course delegates will be able to setup security on your home or small business network and be able to select appropriate passwords.

DurationTwo hours per week for eight weeks.

AssessmentThis course is continually assessed.

ProgressionOn successful completion of the course attendees will be able to progress onto the IT Essentials CISCO Academy.

Computing Higher National Certificate

Course Code: C0295 Annual Fee: £3,000Start Date: 24 September 2014 Level: 4

What is the training about?This training covers a range of skills and knowledge around current IT technologies related to the web and multimedia as well as giving a good grounding in computer architecture, systems analysis and databases.

Who should attend?Employees wishing to study this training will be expected to have achieved five GCSEs at grade C or above including English (without this you will be asked to complete a Literacy test) and Maths. Normally 120 UCAS points from a minimum of one subject at A Level (or equivalent) is requested.

Training outcomesBy the end of the training, employees will be aware of:• database design concepts • systems analysis and design• web development• computer technology, multimedia technologies/

programming.

Modules are updated each year to ensure that the latest IT developments are included. This list of modules may therefore vary.

DurationTwo evenings per week, over two years.

AssessmentAssessment is through a combination of examinations and continuous assessment.

ProgressionA third year of part-time study can lead to the Higher National Diploma in Computing. This training is in association with De Montfort University. This training could lead to employment in the areas of: systems analyst, web developer, programmer, database developer/administrator and IT support.

IOS App Development

Course Code: C3129 Fees: £360 Start Date: 15 September 2014 Level: 2

What is the training about?This course will provide delegates with the skills to create a simple iPhone and iPad app and demonstrate how to register as an Apple developer and upload an app to the Apple store.

Who should attend?Though there are no formal entry requirements, delegates should have some experience of programming in a language such as C++, C#, Java or Javascript.

Training outcomesDelegates will learn how to use XCode on the Apple Mac to create a simple app. The course will explain the basics of objective-C, the structure of an iOS app and the use of the AppDelegate, ViewController and View classes. Delegates will then be able to use the Emulator, or an actual device to test and debug your app.

DurationOne evening per week for 10 weeks.

AssessmentThis course is continually assessed.

ProgressionAfter successful completion of the course delegates will have the basic skills needed to be able to develop Apps for personal, leisure and Business use. Delegates will also be eligible to progress onto the IOS Game Development programme.

IOS Games Development

Course Code: C3130 Fees: £540 Start Date: 12 January 2015 Level: 3

What is the training about?This follows on from the iOS app development course and shows delegates how to build a simple 2D game for the iPhone or iPad using Apple’s sprite kit framework.

Who should attend?Delegates will need to have completed the iOS App Development course and have a short teelphone interview prior to enrolling onto this programme

Training outcomesDelegates will learn how to work with Apple’s sprite kit development framework in Xcode to create a simple two- dimensional game, how to respond to touch input, display and animate game characters and how to write code to deal with in game interactions. Finally delegates will learn how to test and debug your game on the Emulator and on an iPhone or iPad.

DurationOne evening per week for 10 weeks.

AssessmentThis course is continually assessed.

ProgressionOn successful completion of the programme employees will have the basic skills needed to develop simple games for the iOS platform and as such would be ideally placed to pursue higher level programming courses.

What is the training about?This level 2 certificate is offered on a roll on/off basis in a workshop environment supported by professional trainers.

The course builds on existing skills to further develop knowledge and use of the main Microsoft Packages relevant to the workplace.

Who should attend?Employees should have IT Skills to a level 1 standard and be comfortable with keyboard and functions.

Training outcomesThe course consists of: • word processing software• spreadsheet software • presentation software and • improving productivity using IT. Employees are encouraged to use their computers confidently and independently, training is flexible to fit in with workplace commitments.

What is the training about?The course provides prospective delegates with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and software.

Who should attend?Delegates should have basic computing user skills to enable them to enjoy studying this course.

Training outcomesThe IT Essentials curriculum offers a hands-on, career-oriented learning experience with an emphasis on practical activities to help employees develop fundamental computer and career skills. IT Essentials helps delegates prepare for entry-level ICT career opportunities which, in turn helps to differentiate themselves in the marketplace and advance their careers.

PC Maintenance College Certificate

What is the training about?This course aims to give employees the confidence to open up a computer and add or replace parts. It will enhance their ability to troubleshoot basic problems and to install and configure an operating system.

Who should attend?Employees should ideally have some experience of installing software and hardware and have a PC available to practise on.

Training outcomesThe course content includes: • recognition of the various parts of a computer • sorting out the different cables and the correct way to

connect them • inserting more memory • replacing the CPU • installing Windows operating systems and

Who should attend?Employees should ideally have a basic understanding of the Internet and basic computing and application software skills.

Training outcomesEmployees will be able to create blogs and professional websites in a relatively short period of time using one of the most popular CMS systems. No coding required!

This course is aimed at beginners and will fully explain how to install, configure and create a fully functional website. Once installed and set up you will learn how to add content, images and videos as well as utilising themes, widgets and plugins.

What is the training about?The course will provide employees with a working knowledge of installing and configuring a Linux Operating System, how to navigate a Linux Desktop and where to go for help, use of the Linux command line and files, make and restore simple backups and archives, use a basic command line editor and create and run simple Linux scripts

Employees will also develop a basic knowledge of computer hardware, system security, users/groups and file permissions for public and private directories, how to Connect a Linux desktop a Local Area Network.

Who should attend?Employees will require a basic working knowledge of computing systems to be successful in gaining a place on the course.
