Dear Mr. Naga: We are pleased to inform you that the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Inc. was able to obtain funding from German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) for holding a “National Conference on Wetlands, Climate Change Adaptation and Biodiversity Conservation” on January 12 – 14, 2009 at Silliman University in Dumaguete City. This Conference is aimed at setting the stage for the development of a national policy on wetlands, and a national strategy and action plan for the wise use of wetlands and wetlands resources, incorporating concerns on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation. Specifically, the objectives of the Conference are: To draw the attention of key stakeholders, including local and national policy-makers to the potential impacts of climate change on wetlands conservation, and biodiversity.

To develop guidelines and mechanics for the updating of the National Wetlands Action Plan.

To initiate the updating of the National Wetlands Action Plan taking into consideration the important role that wetlands play in biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation/mitigation.

To come up with a Conference Resolution on defining the main elements and scope of the National Policy on Wetlands and defining an agreed direction for the way forward among the key stakeholders.

In this connection and aware of your interest and expertise in wetlands conservation, the SCPW would like to invite you to participate in the said Conference. We will shoulder your transportation expenses, registration including field trip, food and accommodation for the duration of the Conference Attached please find the Provisional Programme and Registration Form, which also serve as your confirmation to attend the event. We would appreciate receiving the accomplished form by December 10, 2008 at the latest. This will give us ample time to make the necessary hotel and other reservations. Further, we would like to incorporate your inputs in the draft working documents for the Conference. For us to do this, please accomplish Annex A1 and send it to us along with the Registration Form.
