    EXPERIMENT 2

Experiment: To find the earth resistance using three spikes

Equipment Required: Jumper wire, earth tester or ohmmeter, three earth electrodes

Connecting leads, tools(hammer, screw driver, plier)

Learning Objectives: After performing this experiment, one can measure the earth resistance using

    three terminal tests

Outline of the Procedure: Bury the auxiliary electrodes away from the earthling electrode under

test make the connections of the earth tester with the three electrodes as shown Rotate the

handle at constant speed (160 RPM) and take the reading change the position of auxiliary

electrodes twice and take the readings of earth tester and record the observation table.

    Required Results:

Generally earth resistance with permissible values is: Large

power stations: 0.5 ohmMajor power stations: 1.0 ohm

Small substation: 2.0 ohm In all

    other cases:8.0 ohm

    Observation:

Learning outcomes: to be written by the students in 50-70 words.

    2) Start the motor by bringing the lever of the starter to start (star) position and then

with the jerk to the run(delta) position

    3) Observe the direction of rotation of motor

    4) Stop the motor by pushing the stop button at the starter and switch off the TPIC

    switch

    5) To reverse the direction of rotation of the motor, interchange the leads of the

motor at any two terminals of the TPIC switch

    6) Switch off the TPIC switch and start the motor again, observe the direction of

rotation of rotation of the motor

    7) Switch off the motor and the supply

    Cautions:

Learning outcomes: to be written by the students in 50-70 words.
