teers supervising, working or interacting with minors must com-

plete the Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at Parish/

School Activities or Events. Without completing this document,

adults may not supervise, work or interact with minors. You may

obtain a copy of the Guidelines for Adults by visiting the Parish

Office or by going to the Parish Website and clicking on Safe-

guard the Children link. Further, adults are permitted to interact

alone with minor/minors only after complying with Archdiocesan

policies regarding fingerprinting and safe environment training.

They may work with minors only as part of a team if they have not

met those requirements. Dates, Times and Locations of training

can be located on the Parish Website under the Safeguard the Chil-

dren link. Fingerprinting occurs once while the safe environment

training must be completed every four years.

at 7 p.m. in Room 3 of La Purisima School to listen to a talk

presented by Dr. Scott Hahn called, "Seven Last Sayings of

Christ." In this revealing presentation, Dr. Scott Hahn unlocks for

us the deeper significance of our Lord’s words spoken from the

cross, carefully chosen so that we might better understand the im-

mense love of God for every person and His plan of salva-

tion. There is no cost, and handouts will be provided.

LEGION OF MARY 2016 ANNUAL ACIES All Legion of Mary Active and Auxiliary members and their fami-

GUÍA PARA AYUNO Y ABSTINENCIA EN CUARESMA

ABSTINENCIA: La abstinencia es una práctica penitencial que consiste en abstenerse del consumo de carne. Dicha práctica debe ser observada por todos los católicos mayores de 14 años de edad. Para el Miércoles de Ceniza, el Viernes Santo, y todos los viernes de Cuaresma, se les pide a los padres de familia y a los párrocos que motiven a los niños, a quienes no les obliga el ayuno y la abstinencia, a que aprecien el verdadero sentido de la penitencia.

AYUNO: Además de la abstinencia, el ayuno también debe observarse por todos los católicos que tienen entre 18 a 59 años de edad. Se permite una comida completa en los días de ayuno. Asimismo, se pueden tener dos comidas pequeñas, suficientes para mantener las fuerzas, y que juntas no igualen la porción de una comida completa. No se permite ingerir alimentos sólidos entre comidas, sólo líquidos. Nota: para quien no pueda observar tales regulaciones debido a enfermedad u otras razones serias, se le exhorta a que practique otras formas de abstinencia de acuerdo a su situación.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Artesanos preparan alfombras de flores y plumas de quetzal en

Guatemala para las fiestas de esta semana santa. Grupos de fie-

les practican su papel de personaje judío o romano para los vía

crucis en México, Texas, Chicago y tantos lugares más. Frater-

nidades penitenciales están preparándose espiritualmente para

cargar con imágenes sagradas y pesadas por calles españolas.

Muchos más están preparando sus maletas para irse a la playa o

las montañas donde, probablemente, nunca recordaran el nom-

bre de Jesús. Estos últimos se perderán las liturgias más signifi-

cativas de nuestra fe cristiana; ritos llenos de movimiento desde

afuera de la Iglesia hasta adentro. Están llenos de símbolos que

nos llaman a la verdad de la existencia cristiana y humana: so-

mos personas paradójicas. Comenzamos entre los hosannas del

Domingo de Ramos, pasamos por las dolorosas imágenes del

Viernes Santo y terminamos entre juegos de oscuridad, fuego y

agua en la Vigilia Pascual. Muchas veces honramos al Señor y

tantas veces lo negamos, pero él nunca deja de llamarnos. En

fin nos recuerda que la condición humana es sagrada y profana
