Gord came home about a week after the rest of the family did so they could then have a proper funeral service for him. Suzanne Mills was taking care of his business, and just continued to serve his clients while he spent time with his family morning the loss of his brother. Keller Williams Culture at its Best!

As one of the KW Cultural Ambassador's for Canada I would like

share a story of KW Culture at its best. Recently one of our agents Mike

McDougall was in Cuba with his family for his brother's wedding.

Unfortunately his sister was not able to attend the wedding because she

has been in the hospital for months now fighting Cronh’s and Colitis,

and was too sick to travel. The McDougall family was hoping to have a

nice vacation and celebrate the wedding of one of Mike's brothers. The

night of the wedding Mike's older brother who in his late 20's and

diabetic fell ill. He was taken to a hospital in Cuba where he slipped into

a diabetic coma. He then suffered heart failure several times.

Wed April 6th the Canadian Commercial Advisory Council had their first strategy conference call with Buddy Norman, President KW Commercial & Cory Older, Director of Operations. The purpose of the call was to complete a 1-3-5 to grow KW Commercial across Canada and the call was a great success! A draft 1-3-5 has been prepared for the KW Canada Commercial Advisory Council members review and input. Next call is scheduled to formalize the 1-3-5. On Thursday May 12th, Keller Williams Ottawa Realty helped refurbish the Lowertown Good Neighbours Community House in downtown Ottawa! The Lowertown Community House serves nearly 700 people

monthly by providing them with food, clothing, internet services, recreational and social activities, youth outreach, collective kitchens,

workshops, referral services and more! The centre is a small converted town home subsidized by the city of Ottawa and with a limited budget,

they have little money to spend on updating the facility. With the help of nearly 50 Sales Representatives and Staff throughout the day, we were able to spruce the place up with fresh paint, new hardware & blinds,

beautiful landscaping and a Central Air Conditioning System for those hot, humid summer days! We also held a fantastic barbeque that was well received by the community – serving nearly 300 hot dogs and

hamburgers to the community! The day was a tremendous success!

We joined forces again this year to collect Food for the Ottawa Food Bank at 6 different store fronts in Ottawa, filling

the bins as people donate.

This year over 100 Keller Williams Referred Realty associates, friends and community members participated in RED Day activities which ranged from re-vamping Humewood House's extensive gardens in the front and back yards as well as painting and providing some much needed manual labour inside the house, to painting the entire dining hall at St. Matthew's United church. Volunteers also sorted through an office full of donations that were the result of the communities generous outpouring of support for our charities. Lastly, food preparation crews ensured all our volunteers and participants were well fed. We ended the day with a Celebratory BBQ where RED Day volunteer efforts were recognized by local councilor Joe Mihevic.

We cleaned up The Homer Watson House and did all their gardening. Homer house is like a community center for kids and artists in our community. We all rolled up our sleeves and got down and dirty for the day, approx 40 plus participants. Homer Watson House & Gallery 1754 Old Mill Road, Kitchener.

We took 2 pick-up trucks, 1 SUV, and the trunk of 1 car (approximately 3000 pounds) to the Food Bank.

We supported a local family shelter, “The Red Door”. The Red Door is instrumental in assisting families in need of housing, food and a sense of community. Agents and staff were painting, gardening and collecting clothing and furniture donations from the community. A BBQ was held for the residents of the Red Door Shelter.

Habitat for Humanity RED Day. We were building on a site at Kinston and Morningside roads of approximately 15 homes for families in need. We did everything from framing, dry-walling, puttying, taping, finishing work and

cleaning of the site. We raised almost $7,000!! It was a wonderful experience and the idea that families will have a roof over their heads because of our

contribution is humbling. We’re looking forward to doing it again next year!!

As part of this focus, Keller Williams Realty Centres, Brokerage in Newmarket for a second year in a row selected Inn From The Cold, Inc., a non-profit organization in Newmarket supported by trained volunteers, providing emergency food, clothing and shelter to the homeless since 2004. Starting at 9:00 am over 80 Keller Williams Realty Centres volunteers including family, friends and students gathered at the Inn from the Cold and spent the day washing windows, painting inside and outside the building, planting numerous plants, trees and shrubs as well as conducting a door-to-door food drive. Special thanks to Sherwin Williams in Aurora, Vince’s Country Market in Sharon, Tree Valley Garden Centre and Nurseries, in Richmond Hill, Holland Valley Nursery, R.R. #1 Newmarket, Clifford’s Haulage, in Aurora, The Perennial Gardens in Newmarket for all their generous donations and all our generous neighborhood families who contributed to stocking the Food Pantry and assisting us in accomplishing our goals for Red Day.

The Keller Williams Realty Centres, Keswick Branch, along with family and friends totaling 20 in all had a very successful day making a difference at the Sandgate Women’s Shelter in Georgina planting, painting, yard clean up and providing a barbeque for the residents.

At the end of the day, everyone gathered together for a fabulous barbeque at the Inn From The Cold to stories and enjoyed a fabulous pot luck dinner and great music.

Our office supported Feed The Need Durham. We had a charity car wash/BBQ and raised approx $500 for our chosen organization. We cleaned, worked on gardening/landscaping, built a shed for their new forklift and of course donating food so Feed The Need can continue to support our local food banks."

Realtors, friends and family of Keller Williams Lifestyles Realty donned work gloves, carried garbage bags and cleaned up trash along the

Streets of London, Ontario. Along the way we encountered and chatted with many citizens and enjoyed the honks of passing vehicle horns

in support of our efforts.

The streets are tidied...camaraderie was enjoyed ... and many expressions were made wishing to join us for whatever our Red Day plans will be for next year.

Thus, Red Day 2011 was introduced to London, Ontario ... the start of a new and exciting tradition for the people at Keller Williams Lifestyles Realty and to our beautiful city.

On May 12, 2011 the realtors and staff of KW Halifax participated in RED Day by volunteering at the WEE CARE Day Care Centre in Halifax - a non-profit organization specializing in helping challenged children. More than 40 members painted, gardened, cleaned, did plumbing, electrical, carpentry and a variety of other maintenance issues. They barbequed a chicken lunch for everyone and donated the BBQ to the centre at the end of the day. The management and staff at the centre were amazed that a group of professional people would give us their day for the betterment of the centre. They want us back next year!

Within hours of us finding out this tragic news we were all asking what can we do? How can we help? How can our KW

family support the McDougall family during this trying time? As we all know that once you stop lead generating, your business

stops producing. So we asked the question of how to help his business continue while he mourns with his family? Our leadership

has stepped up to the plate and is now building "Team McDougall". Todd Skinner our TL sent out an email asking we step out of the

box and think of ways we can lead generate, list and sell on Mike's behalf and who was "in" to help. My phone didn't stop buzzing

with all the replies saying count me in, I have ideas, I'll be there, I want to help, etc. It brought tears to my eyes and I know others.

Our leadership met with a group of our agents to strategize how we make this happen for Mike.

We gathered with our ideas so we could continue to work on Mike's behalf and serve his clients. We also learned that

Mike's brother Gord didn't have life insurance so the cost of flying Gord home and the funeral services were overwhelming to the

McDougall Family and Gord's wife, Erin. Our KW family knew we could help, so in 4 short days we planned a pub night to

fundraise so we could help Erin with some of the costs of burying her husband. We invited friends of Gord and the McDougall

family, our KW family and other realtors that know Mike well. The theme was hockey in honor of Gord's love for hockey. We also

learned at the funeral service before the pub night fundraiser that Gord was always involved in charity work and fundraisers even

at a young age. (He fit right in with our KW culture!) We held a silent auction that raised almost $3000 alone, we also held a 50/50

draw that raised over $800 and had a donation jar out for anyone else that just wanted to donate. In total we raised $4000 in one

evening! Our leadership was receiving calls and emails asking how we can continue to help, so we sent out a form that would allow

our MC to take either a dollar amount or percentage from individual commission cheques to go towards Mike and his family, in-

cluding his brothers wife Erin.

In a recent conversation with Mike, he asked me to include something from him, "I'd like to thank my office, Keller Williams

Energy, for their continuous support. My Family and I are Truly touched by their generosity and thoughtfulness in this devastating

time.

In a business that can be so competitive, and a world of too busy to slow down it doesn't surprise me that our KW family is

willing to step in and continue to lead generate for our own businesses but also for one of our agents so they can continue to have

their clients served and an income generated while they take care of their family and mourn their loss. I am fortunate to be a part

of this amazing company and outstanding family we have that's always growing and striving to help each other. From our KW fam-

ily to the McDougall family we are proud to be able to step up and serve in whatever way possible. I hope you find this story as

inspiring as I have.
