Jordan Instant Meeting - Brownies

Goal: To learn about the country of Jordan and Girl Guides in Jordan.

Program Connections:

Pen Pals Interest Badge

• Choose a country that has Brownies and learn about them.

• Make a Brownie doll from that country.

Key to the Arts - Crafts from Afar

Key to the Arts-Around the World in Song and Dance

Time: One meeting (90 minutes).

Arrival (15 minutes)

• Colour the Jordan Brownie (attached).

• Supplies needed: colouring page for each Brownie, crayons.

Opening Circle (15 minutes)

• Discuss arrival activity.

• Discuss Jordan and history.

Craft (20 minutes)

• Magic Carpet / Prayer Rug

• Supplies: Construction paper, pastels, coloured yarn, hole punch.

• Decorate paper with various shapes and patterns. Punch holes in ends. Use

overhand knot to tie on fringe.

Game (20 minutes)

• Hajla is a playground game, where a group of players toss an object, usually a stone, through patterns of

squares outlined on the ground, hopping through spaces with one leg.

• Make four squares on the ground with masking tape. Players must push a small stone through the line,

using one leg. The trick, however, is to make sure the stone lands inside the square, not on the lines

dividing them. One wins the game if he/she does not make any mistakes. If all make mistakes, the game

will be restarted until a winner is declared. The rules of the game can be bent sometimes to

accommodate new friends.

• Supplies: flat stones (a baby sock filled with rice would also work well), masking tape for floor.

Snack (15 minutes)

• Mezza Plate: hummus & pita, tabbouleh/fatoosh (vegetable salad) and baklava (usually contains nuts).

Closing Circle (5 minutes)
