Here are some things you

can work through with

your children. They should

understand:

what to do in situations when

»unexpected things happen,

such as if a ball goes out onto

the road

the need to take care in areas

»such as car parks, school

drop-off /pick-up points or

busy shopping areas where

there is lots of traffi c

that driveways can be

»dangerous as drivers may

not see pedestrians or riders,

and where vehicles may be

hidden from view

the importance of using

»supervised or controlled

crossing points such as

pedestrian crossings, school

patrols and traffi c lights

whenever possible

to walk on the house side of

»the pavement away from any

traffi c

how to walk safely on roads

»where there are no footpaths

share the footpath with

»others, including pedestrians,

skaters, scooters, wheelchairs

and mobility scooters.
