LDLN (pronounced ‘Landline’) is optimized relief. We are a communications system for when there is

no Internet, cell service, satellite uplink, or radio.

Current clipboard-based data collection methods introduce risks and challenges in data entry, storage, and integrity. LDLN is there to ensure that the benefits of modern communication technologies are not lost for relief organizations.

In an effort to improve upon the portability, usability, and affordability of existing post-disaster communication solutions, we have researched and rated all available technologies to which we have access. The resulting achievement is the extremely compact and inexpensive LDLN Base Station and Mobile App, which will work to enable governmental, non-governmental, and community-based disaster relief agencies to accomplish their goals more efficiently and cost-effectively than ever before.

Modernizing Disaster Relief.

LDLN provides field agents with inexpensive and portable base stations, smartphones, and mobile apps, allowing them to collect any pertinent data and synchronize it with the rest of their organization. This is accomplished without the need for an Internet connection or external power. Base stations are the size and weight of a deck of cards, and can run off a 9-volt battery, a phone charger, or cheap solar panels. The low cost and reliable technology means they can simply be turned on and left alone until the deployment is completed.

A driving goal of LDLN is to be extraordinarily simple to use. Setting up a base station is as easy as flipping a switch, and in less than five minutes it is up and running. Our field agent app is designed to look and act like most mobile apps used on a daily basis, and to run on the devices that people already have in their pockets. The syncing between mobile applications and base stations happens automatically and in the background, so relief workers can focus on what’s really important in the wake of a disaster — rapid response and relief.

Low cost and portable, simple to deploy and use.

No two organizations are alike, so the first step is to determine your organization’s specific needs, and how that may vary from our standard deployment process. During this time, we will also work with you to determine hardware and bandwidth requirements, additional features, and the number of mobile devices needed for aid workers in the field.

At least two LDLN team members will work hand-in-hand with you to determine the design and technical requirements, and will continue with your business team to determine a budget as needed.

During the consultation phase, together we may mutually determine that some customization is required. For example, this could include creating a brand new offline regional map, customizing specific UI elements, and extending or augmenting functionality.

Depending on the type of work, this may involve one or more members of LDLN’s design team, mobile team, or base station development team. To simplify communications with this group of talented individuals, you’ll also be set up with a single point of contact who will walk you through this process.

Once we’ve worked together to take care of all of the software nuances discovered during the Consultation phase, the software will be loaded onto hardware and delivered to you where you need it.

Now that we have your hardware requirements, and the quantities are determined, we can design your Optimization Kit. The kit will include at least some combination of mobile devices, base-stations, batteries, wifi repeaters, solar panels, waterproof enclosures, ethernet cables, and USB cables — everything you need for deployment.

At this point, you’ll be ready to deploy! On our end, we are ready and able to have LDLN members work with you ahead of time to pre-emptively deploy Base Stations and to conduct training. In addition, we are also ready to rapidly deploy along with your team, conduct rolling training sessions, software updates, and hardware maintenance during the response effort.

Before, during, and after your deployment, our technical staff and support team will stick with you throughout in case any questions or concerns arise.
