What is PrepareFair 2012? PrepareFair is one way the Downtown Emergency Advisory Committee (DEAC), an initiative of the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District, is raising awareness about the important role that downtown businesses, building owners, managers and community members play in preparing for & responding to an emergency. The Downtown Emergency Advisory Committee is a program of the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District which brings together employers, building in a unique public/private partnership to help meet the highest level of readiness for public safety threats. The ultimate goal of the committee is to ensure everyone who works, lives and visits downtown Minneapolis knows what to do in an emergency allowing our community to return to normalcy quickly thereafter. DEAC if chaired by Ted Zwieg, Vice President of emergency response agencies and business leaders. Why was DEAC formed? communities have a strong history of working together. The strength of this collaboration was evident in the community’s preparations for the 2008 Republican National Convention, as well as the emergency response and recovery after the I-35W Bridge collapse in 2007 and the tornado in 2009. These events have all demonstrated the importance of emergency preparedness collaboration for the downtown community.
