Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. Are and What We Are About ~ We invite every-one who would like to explore our Catholic Faith more deeply to come and reflect on the Creed throughout this coming year. The next of the five sessions— “The Second Person of the Blessed Trinity: “I believe in Jesus Christ” - Our Redemption takes place this Tuesday, Apr 17 at 7:30PM. Save the date for final session on May 22 - all Tues at 7:30.

From the Pastor’s Pen

The exuberance of Easter Sunday might have diminished some but the realities are more lasting. The power of the Resurrection is not weakened by time and the sparkle of Easter is not dulled by wilting flowers. For those who received sacraments on Easter Weekend: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion and Matrimony—their lives have been changed forever. For those who renewed Baptismal promises hopefully it was a rekindling of the excitement and enthusiasm of being a follower of the Risen One. Between five and six thousand people came to Incarnation during Holy Week. People like you and me sang out “Alleluia” in our beautiful church at Easter but also “Were You There” throughout our neighborhood during the outdoor Stations of the Cross that were prayerfully presented by our young people. We bowed our head and knee as Jesus went from the Upper Room to the Garden on Holy Thursday Night or as we approached to reverence His Cross on Good Friday. We were there to remember the meal that he celebrated at the Parish Seder Supper or to be awestruck in the silence and darkness Holy Thursday Night as he was arrested for love of us. And don’t for get it all began as we came to church bringing filled “rice bowls” and leaving with palm branches! My brothers and sisters, you might take it for granted or be used to it, but the Catholic Christian Faith is alive and very tangible here at Incarnation. And rightfully so because the Incarnation is the mystery of the intangible God becoming one like us in our world. But there are still so many in our area, under our roofs, at our tables who can’t feel it; who do not recognize His presence and action in the world. The accounts in the Acts of the Apostles which we follow all throughout the Easter Season remind and challenge us to spread the Good News about Jesus Risen. In a sense Jesus’ work culminates on Easter Sunday but our work just begins. Are people truly happier by leaving Jesus and the Church behind? Are their lives better? We might not be perfect but hopefully we are trying to be perfected—to be more Christ-like. That is what is so exciting—at least for me– is that together we can take our rightful place as the Body of the Risen One. I am certain that is why people still keep coming by the thousands: God came to us and accomplished unimaginable things, we come to God to offer unimaginable things—our very selves. To all who worked so hard to make our Holy Week Celebrations special I want to thank you on behalf of everyone who was prayerfully moved by them. Your time, talent and attentiveness has been a concrete and inspiring gift to us all. Happy Easter and God Bless!

PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD.

Over the next ten months you will be in-vited to pray at home for more priests. We

invite individual parishioners & families to sign up to re-ceive a beautiful Good Shepherd statue into their home for one or two weeks and to pray for priestly vocations. A prayer kit & activity sheets about vocations will be also given to help you through your prayer week. At the end of the week, on Saturdays, we ask you to return the Good Shepherd Statue to the Parish Office so that it may be hand-ed over to another parishioner and/or family on Sunday. You may keep the activity sheets for further prayer and re-flection. Please consider signing up for our Prayer Cam-paign for Priestly Vocations. A campaign such as Generations of Faith does not simply end when all the pledges are collected. Now is the time when we start to see the wonderful effects of our effort. Blue collection envelopes have been placed by the doors of the church to help facilitate your pledge payments. First Holy Communion. First Communion will be re-ceived by our parish children Saturday, May 12 at the 11AM Liturgy. Everyone in the parish is invited. Please keep our children and their families in your prayers during this special time in their lives.

New Altar Servers are now being trained for the parish. The New Servers will be installed this Saturday, April 21 at the 5PM Mass. Please pray for our youngsters as they begin this special ministry in the Church.

HAITIAN COMMUNITY MONTHLY MASS will be celebrated next Sunday at 2:30PM in the church.

St. Paul—Sept 9 – 20. ~ The parish pilgrimage next September will be to Greece and the Greek Isles as we make a Pilgrim Journey In the Steps of St. Paul. The pil-grimage will be on both land and sea as we follow the trav-els of St. Paul and discover not only the beauty of the Med-iterranean but also of our Catholic Faith. LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. A Concert Reawakening the Call - A Ceremony of

Lessons & Carols During the Year of Vocations will take place on Good Shepherd Sunday, April 22, beginning at 3PM at Immaculate Conception Church, Edgerton Blvd, Jamaica. This free concert during the Diocesan Year of Vocations will feature the Music Ministry of several Dean-ery Parishes. Join the faithful from throughout our part of Queens as we raise our voices in song and prayer and ask the Lord of the Harvest to send more laborers into our Church. Light re-freshments will follow.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and sufferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Because the parish Mass Intentions fill in so quickly there is now the opportunity to memorialize the Altar Candles, the Offerings of Bread and Wine and the Sanctuary Lamps. Please contact the Parish Office as dates are available be-ginning this week. All intentions will be listed here in the bulletin. The offering for each are the same at $25

INCARNATION COFFEE MUGS. The Youth Group will be selling Incar-nation coffee mugs in the coming days. The black mugs are only $10 and have a color picture of the church.

Sunday Scripture Sharng on Saturdays. Join us on Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30 in Our Lady’s Meeting Room or the Audi-torium as we spend time with the read-ings that will be proclaimed at Mass on Saturday evening and Sunday. Through

prayer and fellowship we hope to have the Scriptures come more alive.

The opportunity to pray in a special way for the repose of the soul of a loved one or other prayerful intention is made available each day with announced Mass offerings. You may choose to commemorate a death anniversary, wedding anniversary, birthday remembrance or simply pray in thanksgiving. Each offering is $15.00. Please come to the Parish Office to make special Mass offerings for your loved ones. You may also inquire about dedicating the Al-tar candles, bread & wine or the sanctuary lamp.

CHURCH ETIQUETTE. Have a seat! We ask every-one to take their rightful place in the assembly using the pews at Mass. With the exception of a handful of celebra-tions each year there are seats for everyone. Standing along the walls in the back of the church is causing damage to the walls and prohibits those who might want to stop in church to say a little prayer by the shrines. It can block the entrance way and doesn’t allow people the use of the hym-nals which are needed for the hymns and psalm at Mass. Lastly, standing by the doors could give the impression that you are not fully engaged in the Celebration of the Eucha-rist: half in, half out, so to speak. So come in and have a seat and pray a while!

EASTER PLANTS that decorate the church during the Easter Season may be donated. You may wish to donate IN MEMORY OF or IN HONOR OF a loved one. Easter flower donation envelopes are in the church today and the donation is $15.00. Please return your donation in the Sunday collec-tion or at the Parish Office.

MOTHER’S DAY REMEMBRANCE begins on Moth-er’s Day, May 13th, at the 9AM Mass. This is a beautiful way of remembering our mothers, living or deceased, with a special Nove-na of Masses. Offering enve-lopes are available in the church

Societies’ Meeting. There will be a meeting of all societies and groups on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30PM in the OLPH Meeting Room. Each society or group is required to send a representative. Lead-ership is also reminded to get in all re-quested calendar dates for the coming Pastoral Year: Au-gust 2018-July 2019.

The annual Diocesan MASS OF HOPE AND HEAL-ING, sponsored by the Diocesan Survivors Advisory Com-mittee, will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 7:00PM, at St Nicholas of Tolentine (150-75 Goethals Avenue, Jamai-ca. The main celebrant will be the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn. All are invited to gather on this day, to pray for healing for all those who have been impacted by childhood sexual abuse.
