    Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

  • “I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me.”

    From the Pastor’s Pen

This Good Shepherd Sunday gives me pause to reflect as I celebrate my Twenty-fifth Anniversary as a priest this coming June. I will be seeing classmates in May and June and I’m sure we will talk about what has changed and is the same. Without getting too deep—What has changed is human and what has stayed the same is Divine. When Bishop Daily ordained me at St. James Cathedral on June 26, 1993 I was by no way, shape or form clueless about the Priesthood or what was being asked of me by Mother Church. Nevertheless, as a seminarian I could not grasp the deep longing that the people have for God and how the priest can assist them in filling that void. Additionally, I was no stranger to personal trauma and pain at twenty-five when I was ordained and yet I did not realize how bruised, battered and wounded so many people are and how they carry themselves so nobly in their daily lives. Being allowed to participate in such basic needs of God’s People through the years has indeed changed me. I’ve also changed in that I’m twenty-five years older and sadly more than twenty-five pounds heavy than that June day. I cannot do all the things that I used to do; all the things that I want to do. Sometimes I look at Fr. Chris and think that he is nuts. Not just that he is a Yankee fan, but also the schedule he keeps in serving God’s People at Incarnation and beyond. Often when I am heading upstairs he is heading out to tend to someone. I think he is nuts until realizing my similar schedule when I was his age. We are very blest to have him for his first priestly assignment. The diocesan priesthood has also changed. When I was a kid helping out at my home parish there were four priests stationed at the parish. Today at Incarnation strictly speaking Father Chris and I make up just over one full priest with me directing the Liturgy Office and Father Chris helping at Cathedral Prep. Nevertheless, I believe we are lucky! What has been constant over twenty-five years? God’s Love. His love for me has been unwavering even if I do not fully comprehend it. His thirst for souls who can be so disoriented at times that they do not even realize how much they are unapologetically loved and longed for by Him who wants for nothing. His outreach to us in the Sacraments has been constant. It does not get any simpler that eating and drinking at the Altar of the Cross or saying we are sorry in the conversation of the confessional. The final constant is family: His Mystical Body. Through the Mystery of the Incarnation we are ever bound to Jesus and through His death and Resurrection we are intertwined as his family. I love being part of this family here. I love bringing your families to the Sacraments. Just some reflections at Twenty-five! God Bless! The Lord is Risen. It is true! He has appeared to Simon!

PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD.

Over the next ten months you will be in-vited to pray at home for more priests. We

invite individual parishioners & families to sign up to re-ceive a beautiful Good Shepherd statue into their home for one or two weeks and to pray for priestly vocations. A prayer kit & activity sheets about vocations will be also given to help you through your prayer week. At the end of the week, on Saturdays, we ask you to return the Good Shepherd Statue to the Parish Office so that it may be hand-ed over to another parishioner and/or family on Sunday. You may keep the activity sheets for further prayer and re-flection. Please consider signing up for our Prayer Cam-paign for Priestly Vocations. Simply fill in the form below and return it to the Parish Office or in the collection as soon as possible. Father Chris, Father O’Connor or a member of the Vocations Committee, will contact you soon afterwards about all the details.

HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS will take place this Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 PM in the church. We are happy to welcome Fr. Michael Bissex, a friend of Fr. Chris and Parochial Vicar at St. Patrick’s Parish in Huntington as he leads us in prayer and reflects on his first years as a priest. All parishioners are asked to attend and pray for more priests in the Church. Families are most especially invited. Come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament asking for more laborers to tend the vineyard. Please make an effort to join us this Tuesday at 7:30PM

A WARM WELCOME. If you are new to our parish please feel free to introduce yourself to the pastor or one of the deacons after Mass today. We kindly invite you to come to the Parish Office and register as a member of In-carnation. Registration is important for all parishioners because then we are able to issue sponsor letters for Bap-tism, Confirmation and Matrimony. We also can give end of the year statements of your contributions to the church through regular use of the envelopes. We can also help you with letters of recommendation for employment, schools, etc. Your registration will also help us with our parish cen-sus in knowing the number of Catholics in the Hol-lis/Queens Village area. Thank you and welcome.

    The Shepherd Speaks

This Fourth Sunday of Easter, called “Good Shepherd Sunday,” invites us each year to re-discover, with ever new astonishment, how Jesus defined himself, reading it again in the light of his passion, death and resurrection. “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep:” these words are wholly fulfilled when Christ, freely obeying the will of the

Father, is immolated on the Cross. The signifi-cance that He is “the Good Shepherd” thus becomes completely clear: He gives life, He offered his life in sacrifice for us all: for you, for you, for you, for me, for everyone! And for this reason He is the Good Shepherd!

EASTER GIFT TO MY CHURCH. Your all important “Easter Gift to My Church” is being collected at this time. The Easter letter from Father O’Connor asks that everyone prayerfully make a fair share offering during this holy season of Joy and Hope. If you did not receive the mailing extra “Easter Gift to My Church” envelopes are in the church today. Thank you in advance for your support of this vital parish collection during Easter.

St. John’s University is offering Hearing Aid Help & free Speech & Hearing Screenings. Call 718-990-6480. The Speech and Hearing Center is located at 152-11 Union Turnpike.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and sufferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen.
