Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

FUEL COLLECTION. The annual “Fuel Collection” is taking place. There is an additional envelope in the church packet that requests your generous contribution to defray the costs of the parish buildings. Needless to say, like your own homes, everyone is hit hard during the win-ter months. We ask every parishioner to be as generous as possible so that our parish buildings may remain warm and comfortable for everybody. Extra white “Fuel Col-lection” envelopes are in the church today for those who did not receive it in the mail. Thanks.

Ash Wednesday begins Lent this Wednesday. Mass will be celebrated at 7AM, 8:30AM, 10:30AM and 7:30PM. There will also be Scripture Services at 12noon and 3:30PM. Ashes will be distributed after the homily of each service. The opportunity for confession will take place after each of the four Masses. There will be no Adoration this week.

Bring a Friend to Church!

From the Pastor’s Pen

This week, on Sunday for most of us and on Tuesday for those who go to daily Mass, the Church bids farewell to the “Alleluia” until the Great Easter Vigil. In some places charming ceremonies have been practiced in which an “Alleluia” is put in a little coffin and buried, only to be resurrected again on Easter Sunday. One of the leading features of the Lenten Liturgy, then, is the total omission of the “Alleluia,” which is not to be heard again in church, until the arrival of that happy day, when, having suffered death with our Lord Jesus, and having been buried together with him, we shall rise again with him to a new life: Easter Sunday. The loss of the “Alleluia” is just one way the Universal Church expresses this Penitential Season. The “Glory to God” is also omitted except this year on St. Joseph’s Day and on our Parish Feast of the Annunciation. While symbolic, the omission of these two parts of Mass reflect the somber tone that accompanies Lenten time. It isn’t and should not be business as usual. So that is what the Liturgy does to observe Lent. What are you losing this Lent? If the Mass “gives up” the “Alleluia” and the “Glory to God” during this Lenten Fast what will you go without? True, fasting is only one of the three “Spiritual Pillars of Lent,” the other two being Prayer and Charitable Works, but in a society that has so much maybe it’s a good place to start. When you come to church next week there will be prayer cards to take as a daily reminder of the season. I hope you will take one and make an effort to pray the prayer dedicated to Jesus Crucified everyday. My hope is that reflecting on the sufferings of Jesus at the end of His life will help us realize why the Church forgoes the “Alleluia” and “Gloria” during the Lenten Season. I also invite you to join us for our 7:30PM Wednesday Evening Vespers Series entitled “The Holy Eucharist.” Another hidden treasure here at the parish is Sunday Scripture Sharing which takes place every Saturday morning at 9:30. Join together, pray and reflect on the readings that will be proclaimed each weekend at Sunday Mass. It’s amazing the power of the Scriptures when we reflect on them in our daily lives and circumstances. For all practical purposes, Lent is here. Try to use these remaining days to ready your preparations and not be caught by surprise. God Bless!

LENTEN REGULATIONS—Abstinence: The Church requires all the faithful who have reached their 14th year of age to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are also bound to observe the fasting regulation on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken at 2 other occasions in the day.

SACRAMENTS. The Next Preparation Session for the families (parents and students) receiving Penance & Holy Communion as well as Confirmation will take place next Saturday, March 7 at 4:15AM in the church. Families are reminded to attend the 5PM Mass togeth-

er.

St. Joseph’s Day: March 19. Honor the Husband of Mary, the Guardian of the Redeemer and Pa-tron of the Universal Church with 8:30AM morning Mass followed by a Community Cele-bration of St. Joseph’s Table in the lower church. Start preparing your favorite dishes now.

Parish Gala Dance—Saturday, March 21. As we prepare to celebrate our parish feast on March 25th, there will be a preparation meeting this Tuesday at 7:30PM in the Rectory Basement Meeting Room for those who would like to work on the Gala cele-

bration. Help us celebrate ourselves, our community, our parish where we find the presence of Jesus made flesh among us.

New Altar Servers are now being recruited for the parish. Registration forms are available at the School, Religious Education or Parish Offices. Girls and boys in grades 4 through 7 are invited to this special ministry at the Altar of the Lord. Requirements: Children must be baptized Catholics who have received Penance and Holy Commun-ion, have their parent’s/guardian’s permission and attend the required practices. For more information please con-tact Father Ray. The New Servers will be installed Satur-day, May 2 at the 5PM Mass.

Discontinuation of Holy Communion under both Forms. Out of an over abundance of caution, the Bishop has asked that the Precious Blood not be offered at Com-munion time during this unusually virulent flu season. After the season passes we will resume distribution of Ho-ly Communion as normal here at the parish.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Vo-tive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a contin-ual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and grat-itude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of the newly

restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illu-mination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for additional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. The Shepherd Speaks

According to Jesus, the rejection of violence can also involve the sacrifice of a legitimate right. He gives a few examples of this: turn the other cheek, give up your coat or money, accept other sacrifices. But such sacrifice does not mean that the demands of justice should be ignored or contradicted. No, on the contrary, Christian love, which manifests itself in a special way in mercy, is an achievement superior to justice. What Jesus wants to teach us is the clear distinction that we must make between justice and revenge. Distinguishing between justice and re-

venge. Revenge is never just. We are permitted to ask for justice. It is our duty to exercise justice. We are, however, not permitted to avenge ourselves or, in any way foment revenge, as it is an expression of hatred and violence. – Angelus—19.II.17
