HUA HIN - IN THE KNOW HUA HIN HISTORY AND TOURIST ATTACHTIONS

281 kilometers south of Bangkok, Hua Hin, which literally means stone head in Thai, is the oldest beach resort of the country and is still very popular. Clean white sand, crystal clear water and a tranquil atmosphere has continued to attract tourists in search of peaceful and relaxing holidays.

The town was originally known as Ban Samoe Rieng, or Ban Laem Hin (Stony Point Village). The construction of a railway station in the city as part of the Southern Railroad in the reign of King Rama VI resulted in making Hua Hin stand out from many quite

fishing villages. In addition, the construction of a Summer Palace of King Rama VII totally transformed the village into a high-society resort town for royalty. Even today, the Royal Family continues to reside at the Palace for part of the year.

Hua Hin’s consequence came with the opening of the Railway Hotel an elegant Victorian-style resort hotel, and also the country first standard golf course. A cluster of royal and high-society residences gradually became more visible resulting in the transformation of the whole village into the first seaside resort of the country, where visitors could enjoy swimming, fishing, and golfing in the country’s first standard golf course.

Today, Hua Hin is a well-established beach destination with word-class facilities coupled with a true sense of Thai hospitality. Despite its expansive growth and development as a luxurious destination, the splendor of Hua Hin remains intact. Remaining content in itself, Thailand’s oldest seaside resort has never sought international recognition. It has continued to provide a peaceful and relaxed sanctuary in a picturesque environment that comes with a true sense of historical identity.

HUA HIN RAILWAY STATION

Built in the reign of King Rama VI, the station is one of Thailand oldest railway station. In addition, it is one of the most beautiful train stations with unique architecture. Its most striking feature is the splendid Royal Waiting Room constructed in the Thai architectural style. The room was relocated from Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom Province during the reign of King Rama VI.

THE BIGGEST LUANG PHOR TUAD STATUE

This imposing monument to a revered Buddhist monk Luang Phor Thuad can be found at Wat (Buddhist temple) Huay Mongkol. The Buddhist monk depicted is Luang Phor Thuad, a very famous monk from Southern Thailand who is associated with many miracles.

The temple and the surrounding extensive grounds are very popular and definitely worth a visit as they also contain an elephant sanctuary, where you can ride on an Asian Elephant and if you visit around the New Year,

fields of sunflowers.

THE MRIGADAYAVAN (SUMMER PALACE)

Mrigadayavan Palace is located on Bang Kra beach between Cha am and Hua Hin. Completed in 1924, this summer palace was built by King Rama VI as a summer getaway.

399 metres long, supported by 1,080 concrete pillars, there are 16 buildings of golden teak, in Thai-Victorian style, all connected by elevated airy walkways designed to catch the breezes from all directions.

Mrigadayavan Palace is open every day, except Wednesdays, from 08.30 until 16.30. Entrance to the palace costs 30 Baht for both Thais and foreigners.

HUA HIN HILL VINEYARD

Hua Hin Hills Vineyard is built on a former elephant corral, a sublime place where wild Asian elephant were domes dictated. NAMTOK PA LA-U

This beautiful 11-tiered rock waterfall is located in the densely verdant forest in the area of Kaengkrajan National Park where various kinds of birds and





butterflies are found, especially in the morning. Some levels of the waterfall can be reached along a trekking trail parallel to the stream. The best time to watch butterflies is from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. In addition, visitors may be able to spot wild animals and several species of rare birds. The best time to visit the fall is from November to April when the fall is at its most beautiful.

KHAO TAKIAB

Or Chopsticks Mountain (Takiab means Chopsticks). This hill is only 4 km south of Hua Hin. Many observation areas scatter around the hill, and from the





view points, you ill see Hua Hin city along with white sand beach as a bird eye view.

Many of monkeys also live up there, that’s the reson why some people also call the monkey hill. At the base, north side of the hill, the Giant Golden Buddha Statue stands against the cliff, and this has been a symbolic of Khao Takiab for a long time.

BAAN ISSARA

It is located outside the Hua Hin Center. The restaurant is very busy everyday as it is favorite with Thais, good taste and reasonable price .Dishes can be toned down for visitors so ask for.

This is a long well-known local Thai restaurant where you can have a very delicious dinner. Don't expect a five-star service. This is a typical upper level beach restaurant.Baan Isara is slightly outside of the city center which probably explains why nobody reviewed it yet.....

What a shame because it is a real gem! Absolutely delicious Thai food in a great setting: and old house right next to the beach. Everything is excellent. Make sure you try one of their house specialties, seafood with lots of garlic and basil (in a way, similar to a “pesto sauce”) served on a piping hot plate.

Whilst service can be a little bit slow, you can't blame them as they are always jam-packed with locals and have extremely reasonable prices which does not entitle one to complain about anything

HAGI (JAPANESE)

A large, outdoor-style space is complemented by an indoor sushi bar. Contgemporary wood furniture and flooring dominate the look while a fish pool with large rocks provides a centerpiece.

All of the traditional Japanese varieties of cuisine, including teppanyaki, sukiyaki, yakimono, agemono, and a good selection of sashimi & sushi are on the menu while some dishes using mango, kiwi fruit, avocado or crab stick, and even mayonnaise might turn heads in some Japanese restaurants, but the chef makes good use of these ingredients and produces dishes that are interesting and bursting with flavor. ROYAL HUA HIN GOLF COURSE

Designed by a Scottish railway engineer, The 'Royal' opened in 1924 in the reign of King Rama VI. The Royal Hua Hin is the oldest par 72 courses in Thailand. SEA PINE GOLF COURSE

This Thai Army course was opened in September 2010. The fairways are in excellent condition and beautifully situated directly by the sea. This brings the first





tropical links golf course to Hua Hin.The sea breeze comes in play on the last 3 holes and this three final holes are expected to be the best what Hua Hin golf has to offer.

The course is designed with six holes lying on the beachside and the lies towards the mountains divided by the railroad. It’s a beautiful course well designed with the wind being a major influence on how the course will play, this being an army course it’s normal for five balls to play so patience is needed, but it’s worth playing this new course.
