Archaeology is the scientific study of people and cultures from the past, based on the discovery of artifacts and evidence from previous ancient societies. Biblical archaeology focuses on events recorded in the Bible, some of which are so amazing that people view them as accounts of scientific fiction rather than scientific enquiry. This leads to many dilemmas for us as Christian people because we believe God’s Word is literally true. It is true that our relationship with God is not reliant on the provision of scien- tific evidence but purely on faith. Archaeology does repeatedly support biblical accounts. Independent research by distinguished scholars has provided evidence supporting the wrien accounts of the Bible. Oſten the discrepancies have been found in the dating meth- ods used by archaeologists, or by the missing pieces of evidence, which have led them to alternate conclusions. Biblical archaeology is limited and does have many flaws. There will always be many miracu- lous events, which cannot be verified by archaeology. It will always be judged more severely than other scientific disciplines. However, it also has verified the scientific knowledge demonstrated in the Bible. It is a fascinating journey to study the sites of various events in the Old and New Testa- ments. There has been plentiful evidence to support many of the biblical accounts and work on some of these ancient sites continues. Biblical archaeology is a useful tool in understanding some of the events of the Bible, but the true answer to understanding the history of God’s world is to develop a living and real relationship with our God. "Faith in Action: 1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible." - Hebrews 11:3 Mrs Bev Baen English/HSIE Head Teacher TERM 2, 6 MAY 2016 These things went home this week: • Entertainment book fundraiser leer • School Photo order envelopes and leer • Primary School Athletics Carnival leer and permission note Check your child's bag PRAYER & PRAISE Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5 - 6 Thank God for the wonderful blessings He gives us in our mothers this Mother's day.
