Congratulating Father Rafal on receiving the Veritas et Caritas Award
During the 21st Annual Resurrection Gala, held on September 23, Father Rafal received the Veritas et Caritas Award. For those of you who could not make it, here is Father’s Acceptance Speech...
Much gratefulness with accepting this award and I share it with the many in my life who have guided me with their words, experiences and examples.
I thank all Resurrectionists past and present, especially Father Michael Danek, C.R., he taught me the humility part of parish work in such a short time before God called him home. The endless guidance of the priests of St. Hyacinth Basilica, and Father Gary at Seminary, truly a father figure at that time to us all.
Brother Tom Iwicki, C.R., when for fourteen years after serving St. Hyacinth Basilica at his side, age twenty-four, was when I began serious thinking and praying about the priesthood.
Love and endless gratitude to my parents, for without them I would not be here and this would not be happening.
Love to my sisters and their family, they have been supportive all my life, especially, their love.
And to my very young nieces and nephew, your Uncle/Wojek Rafal, can still keep up with you, but as I get older, I’ll let Isaiah do the running and tree climbing with you. Speaking of man’s best friend, my 2nd associate, pit bull Isaiah, God sure knew what he was doing to give us pets in this life. What a companion and friend Isaiah is to me.
To the family of Holy Trinity Parish, the parishioners, my great Parish and School Staff, the school children, all that devote their time to the church doing God’s work, of which are present here, my gratefulness to all.
For a young ten year old boy from Poland who came to America with his parents and sisters twenty six years ago, standing here with all of you for this joyous occasion, I’m humbled. Our God does work in mysterious ways.
For those that don’t know me, if I got through this without stuttering, then I don’t stutter. If I didn’t make it through, well, welcome to the club of spending more time with me in a conversation. If I’m debating someone I usually win, for my opponent doesn’t want to wait that long for me to get all the words out.
Before Isaiah, I was thinking of being like Father Don Zinn, who had lots of birds, and I thought about getting a parrot. This way when I talk to it and stutter and when it talks back to me we would have very interesting conversations, I might also try singing to it!
As the cartoon Porky Pig says…tha-tha-that’s all folks!

Do you hear the clicks?
YOU WILL during all weekend masses in October. The Diocese of Joliet uses October to count mass attendance and publish statistics to the USSCB and other agencies. Sorry for any inconvenience, but the ushers will be walking the aisles during the middle of mass and you may hear some clicks. Please make sure to attend mass at Holy Trinity in October so we count all of our wonderful parishioners. We want to hear the clicks!
Thank you for your continued support!
