Hyperion Business Mode

1New Features

Thank you for your interest in Hyperion® Business Modeling. This document describes the new features included in this release of the application.

Refer to the Hyperion Business Modeling Model Builder’s Guide and the Hyperion Business Modeling Results Analysis and Reports Guide for detailed explanations and instructions on using the application.

Linking Models into an Enterprise ModelYou can now link models from different departments, locations or business units, into one enterprise model, that can be validated, saved, calculated and reported on.

The new calculation algorithm takes into account all the interdepartmental connections and ensures the costs are allocated to the right sources. All the models in an enterprise model are checked for consistency and are calculated as part of the whole enterprise. This means that any operational dependencies will have financial effects.

Changes to individual models are published to the enterprise model, and can be reviewed before being incorporated. This publishing mechanism provides the business model administrator with the tool to control the changes that are made to the enterprise model, the time when the changes are made, and it also provides the user with an e-mail alert.

The user interface for the Enterprise Model Workspace is similar to the existing Model Workspace in basic design, but offers easy ways to input data, link boxes and models, and analyze data.

Any broken constraints are reported by referencing both the model and box name. Verification errors or warnings, and calculation errors or broken constraints can be saved and printed from the Messages window for enterprise models only.

Since models from different areas within an enterprise may be created in different currencies, the enterprise model provides an Exchange Rate table that enables you to easily enter an appropriate exchange rate for every model in the enterprise model.

Enterprise Model ReportsNew reports are generated for the enterprise model to provide total operational and financial data, report on links, and to track changes. These reports are geared towards both the administrator of the enterprise model and the users/analysts that want to understand the impact of the enterprise on their departmental models. Financial information passed from one model to the other is split by financial category, and type as fixed and variable (F/V).

The new reports for the enterprise model include:

● The Results Summary Report contains profitability results for each model that is part of the enterprise model.

● The Results Detail Report contains all information in a Profit and Loss-type statement, with financial information reported to the account level.

● The Links Report provides an overview of the links between the source and destination boxes between component models in the enterprise model

● The Calculation Changes Report which provides a list of all changes to the models within the enterprise model, as a result of the calculation of operational and financial flows.

For detailed information about these and other reports, refer to the Hyperion BUsiness Modeling Results Analysis and Reports Guide.

Save Custom Result Sets to Hyperion Essbase DatabaseThe Hyperion Business Modeling dimensions saved to Hyperion Essbase have been modified for this release, but the most significant change is the new Save to Essbase window that enables you to select exactly those dimensions and members you want to save to Essbase. You can create a standard Hyperion Essbase database, an operational or financial one, or even select your own dimensions to create a custom result set.

Performance when working with Hyperion Essbase has also been improved for calculations and reports.

Changes to Relational Database SchemaThe database schema for Hyperion Business Modeling has not been changed significantly; however, a number of new database tables have been added to accommodate the enterprise models, and the new Results Views.

We have added some new tables and views to the database schema, normalized the database, and eliminated some unused tables. To improve performance, the Results tables now save numeric IDs only. In order to view item names, you should look at the new Results Views tables.

In addition, model and workstation settings, or preferences, are now saved to database. All these changes are documented in the Hyperion Business Modeling Database Tables Reference.

Automatic Database Conversion Any database container created in a previous release of Hyperion Business Modeling, or Hyperion Activity Based Management 1.5, is converted automatically when it is opened in the new release.

A Container Conversion message is displayed. When you click OK, the affected tables are reorganized or replaced, as required. If you cancel out of this Container Conversion dialog, you will not be able to open the selected container in this release.

Multiple Selects in Enterprise Models To simplify data entry, you can perform multiple selects in an enterprise model to add or remove items, as follows:

● To select multiple items in a list, hold the Shift key down and select the first and last items in the group to automatically select all items in between.

● To select random items on a list, hold the Ctrl key down and select only those items that you want to include in the group.

Errors, Warnings, Loops and Broken Constraints Color has been added to the application to visually highlight any errors or warnings, as follows:

● Verification or Calculation warnings and loops are shown in orange.

Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Add-InsA new template has been added to the Hyperion Essbase default templates which enables you to view results for the enterprise model. A new spreadsheet add-in, HBM_Drilling.xla, enables you to drill through a single model or an enterprise model.

The following templates are now available:

Formula ResultsFor Input Links, the formula results, rather than the word, “Formula,” are displayed in the data entry pane in the format F = formula result.

To view or change the formula, right-click the factor field, and the Edit Formula pop-up menu is displayed, or you can select Set to Value to set the factor to a specific value.

Note: The financial categories pane has not changed with this release.

OLAP Template Description

HBM_OLAP_Template.xls Used for regular models, and to view results for individual models within an enterprise model

HBM_OLAP_EVA_Template.xls Used to view results for the Economic Profit View of a model

HBM_ENTERPRISE_MODEL_ Template.xls

Used to view total summary results for the entire Enterprise Model

Financial MultiplierFor reporting purposes, you must label the financial data so that it is apparent which currency you used when entering financial values.

From the Model or Enterprise Model Settings window, select the label from the Name drop-down that displays the name and currency code for the selected currency.

Select a financial data multiplier in the Multiplier drop-down to control how the data is displayed. The application uses the selected label to multiply the financial data, and displays the values in the selected format. For example, 6,000,000 with a multiplier of 1,000,000 is represented as 6.

If you change the financial multiplier for your model, the application automatically converts all figures to display with the selected multiplier, with the exception of values in formulas.

In order to maintain its integrity, a formula cannot be directly converted. The selected multiplier is appended to the original formula, so the actual calculation always provides the correct value. The original formula is displayed at the beginning of the Formula text box in the Edit Formula window, and subsequent multiplier changes are shown. To view the actual value for the formula, click the Verify button to display the result.

Total Summary or Messages WindowSome changes have been implemented in the Total Summary or Messages window.

WIth this release, the Variables column is not displayed in the Total Summary window if there are no variable results to report.

For enterprise models only, you can save and print the Errors and Warnings, or the Total Summary window. For information on saving and printing errors and warnings, refer to Chapter 10, “Creating an Enterprise Model” in the Hyperion Business Modeling Model Builder’s Guide.

Show/Hide Previous ResultsYou can now use the Summary window to quickly evaluate a change in your model, scenario or period in both Regular and EP View. By right-clicking in the results window after calculating your model, you can choose to Show Previous Results in the Summary window.

Both the Previous and Current Results are displayed, and you can easily see the impact of the change when you compare the total results.

Click in the results window and select Hide Previous Results to hide the previous results.

Performance EnhancementChanges to Essbase and relational databases have contributed to this improvement. The new data entry tables for input and output links have also increased performance, as well as the usability of these items.

For users with large models - and systems with more than 256 MB of RAM - may be able to enhance performance by increasing the Starting Size and Maximum Size for available memory. Detailed instructions have been added to the FAQ and Troubleshooting Appendix in the Hyperion Business Modeling Model Builder’s Guide for instructions.

Hyperion Analyzer 6.1.1Hyperion Analyzer, Release 6.1.1, is available with this release of Hyperion Business Modeling using the associated template, HBM.arg.
