ENGAGED SCHOOL COMMUNITY

accomplishing the objectives and goals?• Yes, Mrs. Miller encourages us to pick winners and find more creative ways

to give the winners their prizes.

and excitement? If so, describe how.• We try to get more exposure through announcements and TV promos/

commercials.

• Describe what system you have used to track your volunteer hours.• We have Mrs. Miller (our faculty coordinator) record our progress as we

work to find new ways to make our students aware of the Jefferson Awards.

• Our vision at Paul J. Hagerty High School is to promote excellence in all of our students and we encourage the students to volunteer in our community by providing multiple ways they can serve the their environment.

• Did your Student Leader Team attend the Fall Leadership Conference?

• Two of the Four of us were there. The others could not attend.

• Describe your succession plan for next year. Has this plan functioned in the past?

• Due to the fact that our school has been in existence for 5 years, we have not had to deal with a succession plan, but we have had seniors and juniors who are familiar with the Jefferson Awards guide the underclassmen.

HELP DESK FOR HELP:EXPAND VOLUNTEER CAPACITY • Describe the process of how you recognized your service stars.• We recognized our service stars by announcing them on the

announcements, giving them a pin and a certificate, and giving them a

25 dollar gift card.

• Did you recognize a winner a month? Name all your winners.• Unfortunately since our school is new we had to start our program from the

bottom and try to build it up. This makes it harder on for our school to get the

word out there. We had a winner every Quarter instead of month. Our winners

were Zavia Menning, Deena Sayyed, Nadia Shokrani, and Mathivadana

• Describe how you connected interested volunteers to volunteer opportunities.

• We got the opportunity to go help this shop for teachers get started. We went and organized the shop and helped them get things ready for the opening day. We also had an HHS field day where people from the community came together to clean our schools beautiful campus.

• Did you assist any individuals in the school seeking to start a volunteer project?

• As a leadership class we helped Zavia Menning get a project going. Zavia completed a project that consisted of feeding 500 families for Thanksgiving. She had the whole school help her collect food so she could feed 500 families.

• Bottom Line: Describe how you leveraged the SIA program to increase volunteerism in the school.

• As we have created more exposure for the Jefferson

Awards at our school, students have had an increase desire

to serve the community in pursuit of winning a Jefferson

Award.

• Did you assist any volunteer groups in the school to help improve their results?• Our leadership class took on the Jefferson Awards and we do volunteer

projects all the time. We encouraged each Student Government class to

do some type of volunteer work. So far the Freshman, Sophomore, and

Junior class have been to places to volunteer their time.

EXPANDS FINANCIAL CAPACITY FOR VOLUNTEERS

• Describe any SIA fundraisers you did during the school year

• Unfortunately, this year we did not participate in any fundraisers to raise money for SIA, when we purchased the gift cards we used money we already had in our SGA account.

TELL STORIES IN THE COMMUNITY

• Describe how you effectively told the stories of your winners to inspire others.

• Our winners were aired over the announcement for the whole school to see. One of our winners Zavia Menning was in the Orlando Sentinel for her good works in the community.

• What was the number of Press Releases you sent out this school year? Who did you send them to and how often were they sent?

• The only press release sent out this year was for Zavia Menning. We sent it to the Orlando Sentinel and they came and did a piece on Zavia and what she had done for the community.

• Were volunteers and your winners recognized through this process?• Yes our winners have been announced through the morning

announcements. In addition, some students, such as Zavia Menning,

who have gone above and beyond the normal expectations of serving

their community were recognized at a larger level such as the Orlando

Sentinel

GROWTH AND EXPANSION OF SIA

• Describe the process of how you made other schools aware and how you broadly promoted SIA.

• We are trying to build up the awareness of The Jefferson Awards in our own school before we reach out to other schools in the area.

• Did you lend assistance or mentor another school in the program this year? If so, please describe how.

• This year was a very busy year for us kids at Paul J. Hagerty High School so unfortunately we did not get to assist another school into the SIA program. Hopefully next year we can go over to Lawton Chiles Middle School and encourage them to be involved in SIA.

INNOVATES

• Describe any improvements you have made from last year.• This year more people in our school were more involved in our community and helping out our environment. We had more people nominated for The Jefferson Awards so it was harder to pick the winner each quarter. This year the prize was also a biggeramount of money.

• Next year we hope to have a Jefferson Awards scholarship. We would take money that we either fundraised or took out of the leadership

account and put it toward a scholarship. After we chose all the winners we would look at all the applications and see which person was the most involved. We would then award that person with The Jefferson Awards Scholarship.
