Grimsby Borough Football Club’s ethos is about development from the

youngest teams through to the senior players. Grimsby Borough was

formed in 2003 by Nigel Fanthorpe and Steve Newby to give another

level of football to senior players, one above Sunday league, and in doing

so managed to scale the heights of the Northern Counties step seven

football. That wasn’t enough for these gentlemen as they had to go that

extra mile and add a junior section to form a community club.

This is where Grimsby Soccer Club came on-board.

Grimsby soccer had eight teams with a vast experience within junior

football. As the new junior section they had to achieve a certain

standard of football to gain the Community Charter Standard.

To achieve this twenty coaches all went through FA level 1 training and

qualification in football and all passed with flying colours. We were the

quickest club in the UK to gain the Charter Standard qualification.

We also provide football for senior women and girls. We also have a tots

section starting from School Year one age group preparing them for the

non-competitive league. The club has just formed a link with St. James

Preparatory School and are now going to be providing coaching to this

and other schools. We successfully coached girls in many of the local

senior schools following on with a successful girl’s school tournament.

Four years on from the union Mr Fanthorpe and Mr Newby have stood

aside to let the successful junior section take the reins of the senior

team to develop it as we have with the juniors over the last four years.

Our aim is to provide football from Year one all the way through to senior

football and to do this as you may be aware takes funding from the local

community and local businesses. Grimsby Borough F.C. are a non-

profitable organisation and all the Club officials and Coaches involved

give up their spare time to make this happen. What better way to

advertise your company in a worthwhile cause and raise your profile to

the wider community.
