Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES

GOOD evening and welcome back to The Bradley Community Stadium for the visit of Grimsby Town in our first Pre-Season Friendly match...

Good evening everyone and welcome back to the Bradley FDC for our first pre season friendly of the 2014/15 season.

I would like to welcome back our local professional club Grimsby Town FC and thank them for once again agreeing to play against ourselves and hopefully raise much needed funds for their youth set up and of course our own.

This season once again sees another historic chapter in the rise of this football club. After a f an ta s t i c sea son w i th u s claiming the NCEL Division One title, we now will be plying our trade in the Premier League

which is step 5 of the FA pyramid system. This is a massive step in my aim to get this club as far as I possibly can.

We will also have our first venture in this seasons FA Cup which is very exciting. Hopefully we can get through a couple of rounds and you never now we could be playing the Mariners again in a competitive affair, what a prospect that would be for the area!

I am sure Marcus will be working on improving the squad over the next month or so to make us stronger for the new season, so don’t be surprised to see some new faces turning out for us.

Everyone involved in the club is excited about the next level but realise we have a lot of work to do during the season and I would like to thank them in advance for their hard work I know they will do. We are fortunate at this club in that we have many people who offer their services for free, without that we couldn’t operate to the level we do so a massive thank you to you all.

Hope you all enjoy the game and hope to see you back during the season.

Last season was a massive achievement for the club. It didn't sink in just how big it was until a week or two after the season had ended but that's history now and we are back in training and looking at the challenge we have in front of us this season.

We have a very young and talented squad of players who are only going to get better so we are looking to work with basically the squad that got us promoted last season. The lads deserve it after last season and we believe they will thrive taking the step up to the NCEL Premier Division.

T h i s s e a s o n i s a b o u t establishing us in the division and building on last season with a reasonable league position, anything more than that would be incredible.

This is our first friendly and we welcome the Mariners which is always nice. They have brought in some real quality over the summer with Paul Hurst putting a very strong squad together, let's hope they can push for promotion this season.

Our training has gone well so far, it's still early on as we look to be ready for August but this is a welcome distraction for the lads from running, (and me and my stopwatch!).

I’d like to thank on behalf of the first team management and players everyone who works tirelessly behind the scenes. We couldn't do our jobs without your help.Additionally, we want to welcome the new Senior

Ladies side that was once GTFC Ladies last season.

L a s t l y, I w ou l d l i k e t o congratulate all the successful junior sides we have at this club. We hope some of you will be pushing the reserve and first team squads in years to come the future looks bright!

T O W NGrimsby Town Football Club is an English football club based in the seaside town of Cleethorpes, in North East Lincolnshire, England, who compete in the Conference Premier. They were formed in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham and later became Grimsby Town. The club is located at Blundell Park where it has been since 1898.

Despite recent misfortune, t h e c l u b i s t h e m o s t successful of the three professional league clubs in historic Lincolnshire, being the only one to play top-

flight football. It is also the only club of the three to reach an FA Cup semi-final (doing so on two occasions) and is the only one to succeed in two finals at the old Wembley Stadium. It has also spent more time in the English game's first and second tiers than any other club from Lincolnshire.

Notable managers include Bill Shankly, who went on to guide Liverpool to three League titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup triumph and Lawrie McMenemy who, after securing promotion to the

then third division in 1972, moved to Southampton where he won the FA Cup in 1976. Alan Buckley is the c lub ' s most success fu l manager, he had three spells as team manager between 1988 and 2008, guiding the club to three promotions and two appearances at Wembley Stadium during the 1997–1998 season winning both the Football League Trophy and the Football League Second Division Play-Off Final.

In 2008 Buckley took Grimsby to the capital again, but lost

You were a regular player last season under Marcus, do you see this continuing this season?I hope I can keep my position this season. I am quite versatile and played in nearly every position last year so I am hopeful.

Playing 39 games during the last campaign must of taken its toll on you, how do you cope with full-time work and playing?Work are good with letting finish early so I am able to make most away games.

So, take me back to the beginning, how did you first get into football?I started playing when I was 11 for the school, which is quite late compared to some players nowadays.

You joined CTFC in 2012 from Grimsby Borough, how was the transition between the clubs? When I left Grimsby Borough, The Owls were in the Lincs League but it didn't bother me as the club has big ambitions and I wanted to sign for them.

You started playing last season out on the wing, but then found yourself having to cover at left-back during the season, how did you adapt to this unfamiliar role?I have played for previous clubs in that position so I found it quite easy to adapt.

Winning the league must of been great, tell me about the emotions you went

through? It was great feeling. I don't think I will ever win that again. We must not look forward to what we can achieve in the Premier Division.

Marcus has had a successful time as the 'gaffer', why do you think this is?Marcus is the best manager I have played under

What can we expect from The Owls this season, mid-table? Top 6? Promotion?I think mid table would be good but, I think we have a good enough team to be up there with the good sides in the league.

Lastly, by the time this is read, we may know (depending on t h e r e s u l t s ) i f England are in the World Cup Final, dare we dream? We have to keep the faith and see what happens, you never know! Full name:

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

NCEL Division One champions Cleethorpes Town topped off a fantastic season with a 3-1 win over Scunthorpe side Appleby Frodingham. The basement club f a c e d a l r e a d y c h a m p i o n s Cleethorpes Town and thanks to goals from Alex Flett, Christopher Gordon and Jonathan Oglesby saw the Lincolnshire side sign their season off in style.

The Owls made one change going into the game, with a debut for Grant Ba i ley a f ter in - form goalkeeper Miles Fenty was side-lined due to a shoulder injury.

Over 100 Owls fans made the short journey to watch the Owls on

Saturday and they nearly saw their team make a perfect start had it n o t b e e n f o r a A p p l e b y Frodingham block from a Jack Richardson powerful strike just outside the box.

The visitors continued to push forward and were nearly rewarded for their opening dominance but Marc Cooper, Cleethorpes Town’s second highest scorer could only blaze over the bar.

The hosts were not rattled by this though, they forced a corner with seven minutes gone and from this, their no.4 had a great opportunity to test the debutant keeper but he shot over from a narrow angle.

The match started to then become a battle of the midfield with neither side having a clear cut chance until Appleby Frodingham went close as their no.10 took a snapshot from just outside the area but this did not test the Owls keeper. With just 21 minutes on the clock, the Owls took the lead. Flett sweetly struck the ball home from 20 yards out after Cooper and an Appleby Frodingham player collided inside the box whilst going for the ball.

16Cooper himself should of scored some five minutes later, but as he raced clear he was brought back for a contentious offside decision which did not please the visiting fans. Then came 60 seconds of ecstasy for the traveling army as the Owls scored twice to make the scoreline 3-0. First, Gordon headed home a Luke Mascall corner from the right hand side, then from the kick-off, the ball was won back, played over the hosts defence into the channel to Chris Funnell who had the easiest of task to square the ball to Oglesby to smash the ball home. The Owls fans then had the remaining 9 minutes of the half to come back down to earth a f ter an exh i la rat ing few moments. The referee blew for half-time as the clock struck 45 minutes as neither side produced a n y t h i n g t o n o t e i n t h e remaining minutes following the two quick goals. The second half started with a flurry of chances for the visitors to extend their lead. Cooper could only see his shot parried after Mascall found the striker in space from a low cross. Secondly Oglesby should of added to his tally of 28 goals for the season, but as the ball fell kindly to him inside the box, he shaped to shoot but curled his effort over the bar. Right-back Daniel Grant was then on hand to have an attempt on goal but his acrobatic over-head kick did not trouble the keeper as he looked for the first goal of the campaign. Just before the hour mark, the O w l s m a d e t h e i r f i r s t substitution bringing off Flett, replacing him with club captain Darren Hanslip. He made an

immediate impact and nearly scored from a header but this went over the bar much to his annoyance. W i t h t h e p r e s s u r e contained by the hosts, they went on search for a way back into the game and should of scored after a flowing move but their no.7 shot wide of the mark with just Bailey to beat. The Owls then made their last two substitutions as they brought off Gordon and Grant replace them with Matthew Coleman and Tim Lowe. With less than 20 minutes left, Appleby Frodingham did pull a goal back. A long free kick was not dealt with by the Owls defence and their no.7 was at hand to smash the ball past Owls keeper Bailey. The three-goal lead was nearly restored just two m i n u t e s l a t e r b u t Lawrence Heward’s shot cou ld no t match h i s de te rm ina t i on a s he skewed his shot high and wide. C o o p e r, i n t h e 7 5 t h minute, then spurned a g r e a t c h a n c e a s h e pounced on a through ball, rounded the keeper but saw his shot hit the side netting. There were further chances for Oglesby and Cooper in the remaining minutes but the Owls just wound down the clock knowing that they where the champions of the league.

The referee blew his whistle much to the delight of the players, staff and fans as Cleethorpes Town were crowned CHAMPIONS of the NCEL Division One, having amassed 91 points from 42 games, and scored 104 goals in that time.
