Cease-Fire in SyriaA cease-fire is supposed to start this satur-day, but several countries have expressed their doubts on the possibility of an end to the fighting. The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said that the cease-fire has no chance of succeding. The United States have announced the possibility of a plan B in case of a failure of the cease-fire. A halt in fightings had already been de-cided a few weeks ago, but it had not been respected.Beginning in 2011, during the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war has caused at least 270 000 deaths and has turned millions of people into refugees.

MUSICTHE MAN BEHIND THE SCENEMr Roberto Iannandrea and his career:

Mr Iannandrea has always been passionate about music since he was little. The first instrument that he played was the piano. He started at the age of 6 but stopped at the age of 12. Another instrument that he can play is the guitar, which he learned how to play without formal lessons, as he just taught himself. He started playing the guitar in his hometown, Insernia, a town in the central Italian region of Molise. After several years of practising the guitar, Mister Iannandrea took this talent as a seriously and became an a session musician. He played with high-profile bands in Australia and then in Europe. He had to move and travel a lot when he chose to do that, but at one point he was tired of moving

around so in 2006 he became a music teacher in London. He spent 4 years in Malawi where became an international teacher. He likes international schools because he can meet new people all the time from different cultures, and this helps him to know more about other people from other nations.

Andy Berre:

Andy is the only student in the year 10 music class after Fernandez left. He has 3 hours of music a week. On Tuesdays he has Mr Sima for 1 hour and on Thursdays he has Mr Iannandrea for 2 hours. He likes the fact that he is alone in his class because then, he can concentrate more on his work. and the teacher can focus more on him in return.

The Imperial Russian BalletYou might never have heard of them, but the Imperial Russian Ballet is one of the most prestigious and loved classical ballet companies of all time. They will be touring in some of the biggest theatres of the world later this year, but still had time to blow us away during their fabulous performances in our dear city of Libreville.Furthermore, their wonderful producer, who used to also be a ballet dancer, even agreed to give us a little interview.

>Was it hard to become a ballet dancer?Oh yes it was very hard. I had to train 7 hours everyday.

>How much time do you practice before a performance? We practice for 3 hours.

>Where is the best place you have performed to so far?I’d say everywhere! (laugh)

>If you were not a ballet dancer, what would you want to be?Woah. I don’t know, I can’t imagine life without bal-let. (laugh) Ever since I was 6, I knew I would become a ballet dancer.

>What do you think of Gabon? It’s hot. We really felt the difference after the freezing temperatures in Moscow.

>Is it your first time in Africa?Yes it is. First time in Africa, first country: Gabon!

>Did you expect all of this success?Well we hoped for it!

We wanted to ask them what advice they would give to young children who want to be like them, but thought they would answer something cliche like « Follow your dream » or « Never give up ».So we thought we would ask you : What do you think you should do to become a ballet dancer ?

On the 8th of February ,the ERV gymnasium welcomed the interhouse basketball compe-tition . The gymnasium was bursting with joy and excitement, with everyone supporting and defending their houses. We could hear the screams coming from the gymnasium from the other side of the campus! People inside were excited and were impatiently waiting for the beginning of the show. The first match was between the senior teams of MANDELA and MAATHAI. The match had only just be-gun when it became obvious that MANDELA dominated the party. Baskets after baskets, MAATHAI suffered incessant attacks from their opponents that had realised a fantastict entry in the competion by winning 10-2 thanks to

Giacomo and Sebastian, who scored 4 points. One of the closest matches was undubitably the confrontation between SENGHOR and MAATHAI that ended with the score of 2-0.SENGHOR scraped a victory thanks to Chris-topher who scored just a few seconds before the final whistle and helped the team to earn three important points. Finaly, the winner of the senior category was SOYINKA, having won all its matches. Addi-tionally , Bilal was awarded of the best player price with a total of 16 points scored and a Friendship price. Other friendship prices were handed out to Nashe and Paul for their fair play and their support of their teammates, a true demonstration of the ERV spirit.

Teacher InterviewsMr. ArmandYou all surely know the lovely librarian who is always helping us in the ERV library. His name is Mr. Armand. Mr. Armand is the one who makes sure that books are in the right place, in good condition and properly labeled. He is also the person who is helps Mrs. Muturi to organize the different events of the library such as the Library Month. Mr. Armand decided to become a librarian because he likes reading and the library is an environment in which he can do what he likes and share his passion with everyone. When he was younger, he spent 3 days in the wild forest in Cape Town. Despite the cold and the darkness of the place, he describes this as a good experience and as the craziest thing he has done in his life. If he could be someone else, Mr. Armand would like to be Joseph from the Bible.

Anna WardAt ERV, we’ve all participated to different sports events around the school

such as the sport day, the ERV participation in the Gabon Marathon and the interhouse basketball competition. Do we know who is behind the orga-

nization of all these events? It is Miss Ward, our fantastic and pretty sport teacher. She is the one who does her utmost to make every single PE lesson

is interesting and extraordinary. Miss Ward is also the director of sports at ERV. She chose to be a sport teacher because she thinks sports are very

important for our health and wellbeing. Furthermore, she wanted to share her passion of sports with everyone and to encourage us to participate at

different sports. She said, “ I really enjoy being at RUBAN VERT because all the students and teachers are really nice to me. Also, an advantage for me to come to a school like this one is that I can learn from other teachers as well as students.” “ It is

learning to learn because different situations call for different procedures”. Miss Ward’s favorite sports are Gaelic football, soccer and basketball.

Mrs BakkerWe all know our fabulous and creative Art teacher, Jolanda Bakker. She teaches us all sort of things such as painting and printmakings. Let’s have a deeper look in her life. When she went to Nigeria with her husband, she was working in a studio. The school in which her husband, Mr. Groot Koerkamp, was working needed an art teacher so she accepted their job offer, and that is how she became an art teacher! Her favourite aspects of art are painting and printmaking. Mrs. Bakker’s favourite cake is her mother’s : a big apple cake. ‘‘I really enjoy being in Ruban Vert., she said, Students are very nice and I’ve got a lot of materials in the Art room !’’
