All district representatives partici- pated in the meeting. The meeting was informed that the General Secretary had aended many meetings in Mumbai and Delhi of all India Gold Action Com- miee where he was appointed as a core commiee member. The general Secretary informed the members that according to the handicraſt bill passed in Jan 2015 “the gold jewellery has been declared as a handicraſt product so it needs to be exempted from any excise duty. Also as the state has special status, the excise law cannot be implemented in the state. “It is a known fact that 90 per cent of gold jewellery is handmade by our artisans and even common man is aware of this. So according to Supreme Court ruling handi- craſts cannot be brought under excise law,” it said. The association has decided that in near future a full-fledged meeting will be held in which all districts members will be called for participation. Their opinion will be taken regarding future course of action and association maers will be discussed in detail. GKNN New Delhi, May 16: In a stern warning to officials over faulty project reports, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today cautioned that officials con- cerned could be booked in case of accidents happening due to flawed road designing. The Road Transport and Highways Minister said he was "immensely pained" to see that as high as 1.5 lakh people are dying in road accidents here annually and faulty road designing is one of the major causes of accidents on several stretches. "With folded hands I want to make a request to those who prepare DPRs (detailed proj- ect reports). Please don't take wrong meaning of my words. I am giving instruction that on those roads where frequent accidents happen, persons making DPRs should also be made accused...I will ensure this comes in the Act," Gad- kari said at highways sector stakeholders' meet and launch of ministry's information tech- nology initiatives. The Centre has constituted a group of ministers (GoM), headed by Rajasthan Trans- port Minister Yunus Khan, for framing stricter traffic rules and penalties for vari- ous offences. "It immensely pains me to see 1.5 lakh road accident deaths ... Not so many people die in any war or serious mishap...For every accident driver alone is not respon- sible. For many accidents wrong road engineering and faulty design is responsible," Gadkari asserted. Cautioning officials con- cerned to take utmost precau- tions while drafting DPRs, the Minister also said that there should be adequate provisions of underpasses and overbridg- es for crossing of roads which in the past were lacking from many crucial stretches to make the project more cost- effective. "When you make DPR and somebody from Ministry or NHAI asks you to change the design, ask them to give so in writing. Wherever there is needed, we have to make over- bridge, underpasses otherwise if road speed increases with- out any provision of crossing, accidents will increase." India accounts for as high as 5 lakh road accidents per annum in which 3 lakh people are crippled while another 1.5 lakh die and the total cost to the economy on this account is valued at 3 per cent of the GDP. PTI Customer service a top priority: Chairman Srinagar, May 16: J&K Bank is eyeing a credit growth of around 20% in the J&K state with special focus on agricul- ture, trade and services sec- tors. Besides, the Bank plans to lay special emphasis on customer service by devising a state-of-the-art monitoring system for redressing cus- tomer grievances. This was stated by Mush- taq Ahmad, Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank at the Bank’s Annual Zonal Review meet held here at SKICC today. The meeting was attended by Executive Presidents, Senior Presidents, Zonal Heads from across country and heads of various departments at Cor- porate Headquarters level. The meeting was con- vened “to assess, under- stand and think as to what we have done, what we need to do and how we have done & how we need to do”. Nota- bly, J&K Bank is the major credit player in the J&K State with a contribution of over 63% amounting to over Rs.26000 Cr to the total loan book of all banks operating here. The branch network of the bank stands at over 740 branches in the state and the strength of ATM network is 929 in the state. Emphasizing that Bank would continue to carry the legacy of growth, Chairman said, “We have a history of moving ahead with great pace despite all odds like economic downturn, from 2005 earthquake to Septem- ber 2014 floods.” Putting the Bank’s per- formance in perspective, Chairman observed that economic slowdown coupled with meek growth in bank- ing sector had underscored the need to identify promis- ing and performing sectors and facilitate their growth by pumping more funds into them. “I believe we need to aggressively pursue our business goals and in that direction we should achieve credit growth of around 20% in J&K State with special emphasis on agriculture through KCC, SHGs, and trade and services sectors.” Attaching prime impor- tance to customer satisfac- tion, Chairman urged the Zonal Heads to make them- selves accessible to the customers to give personal touch to customer service. While he expressed satis- faction over drastic decrease in the number of customer complaints, Chairman urged the operative heads not to remain complacent and ensure earning cus- tomer gratification by stick- ing to customer complaints redressal mechanism through personal availabil- ity, responsive communica- tion, and better coordination among employees and across hierarchies. He also revealed the Bank’s plan of devising spe- cial financial products cus- tomized as per the require- ments of people from differ- ent segments of society and even from varied geogra- phies across India. Describing Zonal Heads as ambassadors of the Bank, the Chairman coun- selled them to understand their roles and realize their responsibilities to ensure J&K Bank continues to retain the emotional equity of the people of the state. Further, the Chairman underlined the need to focus on technology driven new age banking platforms to improve customer con- venience and reduce foot- fall on branches. “Mobile banking, ebanking, PoS machines and other digital platforms are the contem- porary game changers and if we want to excel we got to exploit them to their full potential”, he said.
