Rise to the Challenge Which group will win the bragging rights of raising the most for the roof?

Grace UMC is in the midst of our Re-Roofing Campaign (running from October 2018 to July 2019). This

Campaign is seeking to raise $100,000.00 to completely replace the original roof over the Fellowship Hall,

kitchen, nursery, youth room, prayer room, and adult Sunday school room as well as mechanical, electrical,

storage and other rooms in the older portion of the building, and also fix some leaks in the newer portion of

the building (over the narthex, sanctuary and education wing).

Nearly 40 percent of the $100,000.00 has already been received and is in the bank! Another 20 percent has

been pledged by members and friends of Grace UMC that has yet to be given, but we trust will come in

before the end of our Campaign in July of this year.

This means roughly 40 percent is left to be raised. And that’s where our challenge comes in. For a little

friendly competition, each group at Grace is being challenged to come up with and carry out a fundraising

idea of their choosing. This can be as simple as everyone in the group pitching in a dollar amount into a group

collection, or as elaborate as 5K fun run, walk-a-thon, auction or whatever else you can dream up and make

happen.

As group fundraisers wrap up, we’ll tally the totals and keep you updated on the runnings to see which group

will win the bragging rights of raising the most for the Re-Roofing Campaign. Let the challenge begin!

Grace by the Numbers

Every year at the end of January, Pastors across The United Methodist Church

are responsible for submitting numbers to the Conference office. These numbers reflect and point to the

ministry to which we have been called and how we have lived that out in the last year.

Here’s a look at bits and pieces of Grace UMC by the numbers from 2018.

109 is our Average Worship Attendance for Sundays in 2018 (between both 8:00 a.m. and 10:0 a.m.

services). This number remained steady from 2017 to 2018. The Administrative Board has set a goal of increasing our Average Worship Attendance by 10 percent in 2019, going from 109 to 120.

12 Adult Small Group Ministries regularly engaged in mission, ministry, fellowship and/or service in 2018:

Adult Choir, Adult Sunday school, Book Group, Grace Dinner Group, Friends Fellowship & Food, Mah Jong,

Meals on Wheels, Men’s Breakfast, Movie Night, Prayer Shawl, Ruby’s Pantry, and Ruth Voll Circle. This long list doesn’t even include other things we do at Grace like Sandwich Sundays for Simpson Shelter, or our efforts that support 360 Communities, Lewis House, or Emma Norton!

83 adults are involved in one or more of those 12 groups at Grace!

58 children and youth (ages 0-18) are involved in one or more areas at Grace, whether that’s the Nursery,

Sunday School, God’s Kids Choir, Youth Choir, Wednesday Night Activities, or Confirmation!

We have an incredible amount of participation with 141 individuals (ranging from babies to adults) regularly

participating and engaging in life and faith at Grace UMC!

A few more numbers to celebrate…

$5,020 or 21 percent of our Apportionments was paid in 2018! Up from 1 percent in 2017 and 8 percent

in 2016!!

$38,088 (nearly 40 percent of our goal!) was deposited into a savings account for the Re-Roofing Campaign

that kicked off in the last quarter of 2018!

Submitting yearly number reports is often time consuming and can be a dreaded task on a pastor’s to-do list.

However, I was thrilled to submit these numbers and am deeply humbled by having the honor of calling myself

Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church. The mission and ministry we are doing together is truly trans-

forming lives, and I cannot wait to see what we accomplish in 2019!

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Jen

2019

Begins (runs thru March 24th)

Please help support our Girl Scouts by purchasing cookies from Kiera Palacio, Meg

Molitor, Alaina Chmielewski, Katie and Kristin Withrow and Claire Conaway. Cookies

will be sold Sunday, February 10th through Sunday, March 24th. A table will be

set up in the narthex with a spot for each girl. The girls will be at their spots as

their schedules allow. We hope there will be someone selling each Sunday but can’t

guarantee it. If you would like to support the girls, but do not want all those deli-

cious cookies in your home, you can donate them to our church for coffee hour, or

you can donate boxes to our troops overseas. Just let the girls know what you

would like done with the cookies you purchase and they will take care of the rest.

Kiera is in Brownie Troop 56766, which meets in Eagan, Meg is in Troop 17661, and Alaina is in Brownie Troop

57512 in Rosemount. Katie, Kristin and Claire will have their troop information available at their spots at the

table. Thank you for your support.

You are cordially invited to this fundraising event on March 10th between services. We

will be serving from 8:45 to 10:00 a.m. Pancakes, sausage, fruit and juice are on the menu.

All proceeds will go to the Re-Roofing Campaign. This will be a free-will donation. All are

welcome. Serving up this wonderful food and fun activity are your board of trustees: Ron

Frattare, Ray Walker, Carol Greibrok, Laurie Farnen, Dale Osborn and Aaron Swanson. 5

exit 81, (210th St.) make a U-turn on to Keokuk Ave. The restaurant is on the

ber, if you need to shovel your walk at home, chances are the church

needs clear-ing too—so put this on your “to do” list and help keep our

sidewalks safe. Shovels are at the church, but you might like your own

better. For heavy, serious snow we have a snow blower and you can

contact Gordy Peters for information at 952-435-6189.
